This is one place that will never be accused of false advertising! There are indeed BIG ROCKS here! You can scramble, and/or boulder, around and over them. If water conditions are safe, there is also swimming... So bring your floaties! There are also bathrooms, and (I think) changing rooms. There might be a snack shop, but I've never been here when it's open, so maybe not. Only reason I'm not going 5 stars is that the unpaved parking lot is a navigation nightmare! It's also very bumpy, and entry in and out is rather steep. To top this quagmire off, there's also a huge, Texas-sized, truck blocking the parking isles. The truck usually has an over-sized trailer hitch making things even worse. Lastly, be sure to read the warning sign. If the water is not moving, i.e. stagnant, there is the danger of unhealthy "amoeba organisms." read more

We accidentally stumbled upon this park while leaving Glen Rose so we pulled over into the small parking lot. There are long cement pathways down the one way lined with fishermen. The other direction has a sort of dam you can walk across to see the older defunct dam with water spilling over it. If you continue walking you will come up to these giant rocks that you can climb on and look over. The river has small pools of water, a mini waterfall of sorts and several trees which change color during the seasons. It's very picturesque. Be careful of aomebas in the shallow warm water. read more

What a beautiful spot for a family friendly day! WATER SHOES ARE A MUST if you plan to get in the water here. The water is constantly running over the rocky riverbed - so naturally, there is some slick algae buildup. That did not deter us, or the kids. It is free, the parking lot on site is small, but there is an overflow lot just down the way where you can park and walk back down to the entrance to the water. Bring a tube for maximum fun for the kids lol! Also - if your kids want to do any sliding on the surfaces - I strongly recommend bathing suits with shorts. It is concrete, after-all. The water is nice & cool, mostly shallow with a few occasional "deep" spots. I am 5 ft 3 in; and the deepest part we found was barely chest deep. Kids rated this a "200/10" and the grownups give it 10/10, 5 stars! read more

This is just a neat little place. Yes, they are rocks, but they are some fun big rocks full of history to crawl on and interact with. Crawl through the small holes, in between tight gaps, and jump from boulder to boulder. All along a cascading creek that has a beautiful rock bottom creek bed. They evidently have swimming in the creek, as they have a life vest station where you can borrow a life vest for your visit in the water. read more

Visiting this park made me wish I was a lot younger and in better physical shape. As soon as I started climbing the rocks and jumping from one to another, I felt like a kid again. However, please use caution as there are a few significant gaps between some of the rocks. This park is definitely fun for the entire family. Be sure to bring out the kids for this one. read more

Driving through Glen Rose Friday evening to a grocery store, we spotted Big Rocks Park. We decided to check it out on our way back to our hotel. It was about 7:30pm and there were still a lot of people around. The parking lot is free, but is small and all gravel, which was a bit much for our Prius... The park itself is cool! To the left is a lot of...well...big rocks...they were very easy to climb on and fun. To the right is access to the river, and in this spot it is very shallow and slow. We waded out in shorts and could go for quite a while before it got too deep. The whole family really enjoyed this random stop along the way-would definitely recommend for families as a fun and reasonably safe place to play and get wet. read more

Amazing for the family. Lots to do for the kids . Minnows are everywhere. There were people fishing as well and some catfish were caught. You have to look out for snakes specifically poisonous cotton mouth snakes. All in all it's one of the best places for family enjoyment. read more

Big rocks park is 10 minutes away from Dinosaur Valley State Park and is 1 minute away from the Green Pickle. The park closes at 10pm so it gives you time to wind down after some touring in Glen Rose Texas. The place has 2 picnic tables on the side of the road where you could sit and eat while watching the sunset go down. People could swim in the park and could borrow life vests for a first come first serve basis that is located at the loaner station. People have to be careful though because a warning sign states that people have to be careful in swimming in stagnant water due to amoeba. It's an interesting stop while visiting Glen Rose Texas. read more

This place is refreshing and fun. Not sure what's not to like! Lots of gigantic rocks to climb on and adventure around. Rushing water to sit and relax in, or for little ones to play in. The water is pretty shallow, clear and clean. The water can be moving quickly the further down you go, so would recommend little ones or weak swimmers wearing life jackets. If you're stagnant for too long, tiny fish may nibble on you. Saw lots of dogs running around also, so you can bring your furry friends. It was a little difficult to find, but it right by the downtown area. Worth looking for! Bring some chairs, snacks, drinks, and find a place to enjoy the water. Water shoes were also great to have here. There's a snow cone shop close by you can grab ice cream of a snow cone at also. read more

A great quick stop to run around on giant rocks or a place to spend a couple of hours cooling off in running river water.

Neat place to sit and relax in the water. The rocks are pretty slippery which isn't surprising since there's rushing water going over them. So water shoes really help. Bathrooms are not the nicest but they're there if you need them. Not a whole lot of parking. We went during the week so it wasn't too crowded. There are shallow spots mixed in the surprisingly deep holes so watch your step! Not really deep waters for swimming. More for wading in the water or sitting and taking in the nice scenery. Snow cone/ ice cream right next door so that's a nice treat. Also, the park is free so that's a bonus if you're looking for fun/free/family friendly activities in the area. read more

This place is incredible. My wife saw it online and we took our dog, who had never really been to anywhere like this. The water is cold, but the river is gentle enough to roll your pants up and get your feet wet in a few places. The park is a great place to bring a picnic or kids. If you're in Glen Rose then you have to stop by! If it's not swimming season= this could be a 30-60min stop and you're done. No bathrooms here. Literally just huge rocks to climb on with great river views. We stopped here the morning we were heading out to go home. Adults and Kids (7 and 4) climbed for 45 minutes then over it. After getting some great pics, we headed to Heritage Park on the other side of the river to play at the playground and use the restrooms there. We would come back to make a day of it if we could swim too! read more

It's connected to the Heritage Park, and quite frankly, should be part of it....there are a lot of large boulders, so be careful where you walk....especially at night....being at the end of the river area, it almost looks like Dinosaur Valley. Great place to be. read more

This park has big rocks. No joke. It's just a bunch of big rocks next to a river and is apparently so entertaining I couldn't find an address for it on the internet anywhere. There is a big sign telling you all the things you can't do, but what you can do it climb up on one of the big rocks and look at the the Paluxy River and what I found on a website referred to as a "dangerous new dam." This is a great place to go on a hot day. We had a lot of fun climbing on all the big rocks. They were really cool and interesting. They were a little dangerous but a good time. Make your way down to the water. It feels great! There are some really shallow and some deeper places. There are also some large rocks u Dee water so be careful. Some spots have a strong current so please be careful so you don't get carried away. Keeps good on on your kids too. It's great that it's free and they have a good sized parking lot. It's pretty clean and nice people. There is a snow cone place next door that you should check out Again it's a lot of fun, but a little dangerous. This was a great place to stop with the family. We came on a weekday and there were only 2 other families there. It felt like we had the place to ourselves. The rocks are really neat to see and climb over. Our two year old had a blast. It would have been even better if there was a plaque or something that explained how the formation was created. We stopped by today after visiting Fossil Rim Safari. We stayed for a few hours and enjoyed every minute of it. The water was super clean today, considering all the people who say it's "dirty". The current was strong and not safe for little ones without help. read more

Huge waste of gas to drive here the water is full of algae so much that the entire waters area is a slip trio and fall hazard right on to hard rock onkyo four people fell down hard in the hour I stayed there was so much algae floating in the water too it was nice fun to wade the at the very deepest waist deep water ,we left and went down 144 to grandbury lake park and that saved the day we would have wasted .Thus place is just for small kids but they must wear shoes with traction read more

As stated previously this park earned it's name. It's a designated area full of big rocks. However, if you are looking to enjoy a picnic beside the river or even wade in the water...if you catch it between drought or storms... there are also dinosaur footprints in the rocks if you look around. Might be interesting for kids, but why not just go to dinosaur valley just down the road if you want to see footprints. read more
