Small Walmart but they have a little of everything. I'm often in the Hood River area so having this store right off the first exit, makes it a convenient stop if I've forgotten to pack personal items or want to pick up snacks. I've often had to stop in to buy a sweater or vest when the weather turned cold. The customer service area is immediately to the left when you enter. Line moves slow, but it's Walmart! Restrooms also in this area. Clothing sections are small, but typically I'm looking for layering pieces and their No Boundaries brand has great all cotton options for way under $10. Tanks are $2.99 and long sleeve Tee's are $4.99. Big parking lot and it's always crowded as they are the only show around for many miles. Several handicapped spots and also electric charging stations.

I want to go back to school, I would have rocked this backpack!!

This is a small but mighty little Wal-Mart. I found school backpacks, rulers, pencils, paper, and all sorts of other needed items on the school list. We bought flats of water. But we forgot that every bottle has a crv. We're from Arizona so we never pay for that, nonetheless, the $2.00 water was just over $5.00 in case you are also from Arizona. They have postcards. Yay!! The bathrooms were so so. Meh!! But the cashiers were friendly. Yay!!

Shortt Supply is a business to be avoided. This business changed ownership recently and it is not…read morewhat it once was; an owner that stood behind their products and valued their customers. Last August I purchased a $150 pair of Topo Athletic shoes from Shortt. The purchase and fitting experience were exemplary. I have worn them occasionally since then approximately once a week for exercise walking. Recently I noticed that both shoes were abrading a hole at the same location on the inside collar. A call to the manufacturer directed me to the dealer to resolve the problem. On my visit to Shortt I was directed to the manager. It was clear from our first interaction that Shortt would not make any effort to resolve the defect in the product. To add insult to injury, after confirming that the shoes had not been subject to excess wear, I was told that I was at fault in my manner of walking despite 70 years of not having a similar issue with any shoe. No relief was offered. While Shortt has a wealth of excellent apparel, shoes and accessories at premium prices, they clearly have no interest in standing behind their products or making any effort at customer service. This is a business that knows it can overcharge tourists who will never be around to seek a remedy for a faulty product. There are several other reputable shoe options in the Gorge and you should give them your business.

First time I shopped here years ago was because I needed a good pair of walking shoes with arch and heal support. Those working here know what they are doing. They don't just recommend shoes, they fit you for the pair that best meets your specific needs and fits you properly. For anyone who has suffers from foot or knee pain, you know how life changing a properly fitted pair of shoes can be! In addition to a robust shoe, sneaker, running shoe, hiking boot area, Shortt's has all of your camping needs covered. Tents, sleeping bags, outdoor cooking equipment, dehydrated food, small cook stoves and more. They carry every color and size Hydro Flask and totes and coolers, too. Jackets, rain gear, hats, caps, swimsuits, sunglasses, clothing, waterproof pants and tops, maps, books - they have it all. The only section that I wish was more robust is the swim section. I swim an hour a day and while they had a few swimsuits, goggles and swim caps, I was looking for a mesh bag to carry my swim fins, gloves and goggles. They had three TYR bags but they were super bright neon colors and I want something more subtle. This is a family run business and they are all about personal service and as a result, when the store is crowded it can be challenging to get assistance because those working there definitely give full attention to the person they are widening with. It's worth the trade off. Definitely recommend.

It might have been because…read morein the Yelp category men's clothing is also listed but upon arrival here after looking around dow stairs and upstairs this is definitely a women's clothing store. Perhaps they had men's clothes at one point in time and they phased it out. Some stores do that. Or sometimes I bookmark businesses and the reason why I did that gets forgotten. But aside from that the merchandise is very nice and good shop situated in downtown Hood River. The clothing has kind of western style spin to it but in a classy, socializing way as opposed to western wear that is also work wear. Everyone that worked here was very nice and they had some very nice blankets that they had here for sale so that is also something to consider while out and about downtown.

Personally, I like that the staff allows me to wander without constantly asking me how I am or if they can help. I like to browse without pressure and when I am in Hood River, I browse more than purchase! I can't buy something in every store so I walk in and out of the shops and then determine what I can't live without. At Ruddy Duck, I have found and purchased unique handmade earrings, which is my style. I like wearing jewelry that no one else is wearing! On my last visit I found a great black and white boho maxi skirt that transcends all seasons. Especially like that the dressing room has the most spectacular view of the river! Great shop on my "route" whenever I am in the area.

Just to start with the most pressing issue, I can't possibly be the only one wondering if there's a…read moredead body hiding in one of the cars or trunks on the Super 8 side of the store. It smells SO AWFUL. If the stench is not coming from one of the cars parked along that side of the building, then it has to be coming from the building, itself. If there is not a dead body on the side of the Fred Meyer store, then they have some kind of seriously disgusting issue with rot or mold that literally smells like a dead body. There is NO WAY the employees haven't noticed. The checker assistants have to go over there to collect carts. I'm not exaggerating when I say it smells like something is dead over there. Someone needs to figure out where that smell is coming from. It's a health hazard on the basis of how bad it smells alone, but nothing smells that bad without there being a biological cause. It smells bad enough to merit three paragraphs. If it is an employee's car, this is one of those cases where they need to be written up for disgustingly unacceptable hygiene. There is no acceptable excuse for any area of a grocery store to smell like that. My second most pressing issue with this store would be the weights and measures. Is Weights and Measures like, not even a thing in Oregon? Because the sale tags at this Fred Meyer are wrong *more often than not*. They do a great job of putting tags up, but it doesn't seem to be anyone's job to take them down. I've been to this Fred Meyer a few dozen times, and it feels like I've caught at least one price error on every single visit. It's so bad that it almost feels intentional. You think you're getting low prices, and if you don't pay very close attention at the register, you might not even notice that such an incredibly high percentage of the sales tags are expired. I'm not saying this as someone who is angry with Fred Meyer. I still shop here. I've just stopped believing the sales tags. For example, a few days ago I was going to buy a bag of Nature's Path Peanut Butter granola, because it was marked down to $2.99. I even checked the tag to make sure it wasn't expired, and it wasn't. I actually like the chocolate flavor better, but it was $4 more. I specifically chose the peanut butter flavor because it was on sale. But even after I hit 'total,' the price was still $6.99. It's like the sales tag was just completely made up. Weights and Measures would have such a field day in this Fred Meyer store. I bet they could raise enough money from bin label error fines to pay for all kinds of community necessities. Third, the handicapped restroom in the women's room has a door that is impossible to lock, and it has been this way for at least sixteen weeks. I'm kind of hoping they get sued by someone in a wheelchair, at this point. That's so messed up to let sixteen weeks go by without fixing that. In case management reads this and decides to address the issue, they need to make sure the door can be locked by someone without much physical strength. If the door needs to be lifted up to lock, then it is absolutely not accessible. How would a person in a wheelchair lift the whole entire door up to get the latch to fit? I wasn't even able to do it with all my strength, and I tried pretty hard. I haven't had any issues with product quality or employee attitudes, as a lot of other reviews mention. The employees I've come across have been friendly, if it can be considered friendly to not care that most of your customers are being deceived and overcharged. So, like I said, I would still shop here, but carefully. Keep in mind that most of the sales tags are mythological. And don't park on the Super 8 side of the store unless you're able to hold your breath on your way to/from your car.
