Basic hardware store in downtown White Salmon. On a recent visit I was surprised by the low inventory of seasonal holiday items; just a handful of Christmas decor and lights and it was only the first week of December. Maybe it's a supply chain issue. In my experience, locally owned Ace Hardware stores are a cut above most hardware stores with surprisingly well stocked and upscale home decor, garden and seasonal items. Not the White Salmon location. If you need the basics, but nothing more, this store is convenient. Large parking lot. Helpful staff. read more

Friendly helpful staff and dog friendly too!! Great hometown store, I'm glad they are here, they fill a need that was left when many other stores closed here. Shop local or one day there won't be a local place to shop. read more

Has most hardware stuff needed, and staff is friendly and relatively knowledgeable. It would be nice if they were able to predict when out-of-stock items may come. They always state when freight comes in next, with the disclaimer that they have no way of telling if products will arrive. Also, website needs updating to reflect actual inventory levels in-store. Not only does the website not reflect current inventory levels, but can be difficult to tell if an online item is a normally stocked item in the store. Regardless, I shop their all the time for both work projects and home repairs. 95% of the time they have what I need and do not need to leave time to get what I need. A+ read more

Ace is NOT THE PLACE --at least not in White Salmon unless you want to feel like you the customer are the problem and wasting the time of the clerk. I've shopped here for over 10 years but now do not go in due to bad customer service, long lines, faulty products, and inefficient feckless clerks . I tried to return a $20 item last week and it turned into a multi step prolonged ordeal. Upon entering the store I asked a floor person if I could return an item. He curtly said :"I needed to talk to to a "PIC"". I said: "What's a "PIC"?". "Oh that's a Person In Charge" he replies. I say: "OK who is in charge then"? "The Manager-Nick" He says. I say: "OK can you get Nick then?" He says: "Oh all returns must be made at a pay station" I ask: "Pay station--is that a cashier? Looking over I see a line for a cashier that is 4 people long and I say: "so I need to wait in line for a cashier and then talk to the Manager?" In ask again. "Yes" he harshly says--"you need to wait in line". I proceed to wait in line at a cashier which is really a series of 3 unorganized lines. After about 5-7 minutes I get to the cashier and I say "I need to return this item as it's broken." She says, "Why are you returning it? I say "because it's broken". She looks at the item and says: "I don't see where it's broken". I point to the DeWalt tool box that I am trying to return and point to the latch mechanism and say "it has a missing latch -one of the two latches broke off. She says "But I don't see anything broken". I say "that's because it already broke off" and now there's only one latch instead of the two it came with and is supposed to have in order to close effectively". She then says " Well did it come that way--did you buy it that way?" I then said "No it worked fine when I bought it and had two latches initially". She then says: "I still don't see the broken part" I say "I think the broken latch is somewhere in one of the case compartments". She then shakes the tool box around and the broken latch falls on the counter and then she says: "So is this the broken part-Why are you returning this?" I then say: Look--I just want to return the item--this is becoming a very dum process" She then says "you don't have to be mean or call me names". I said, "I just want to return this item without a fuss--can you get the PIC--the Manager-- who I think is named Nick?" She then starts talking with the woman behind me and says "he is being abusive isn't he?" I say, "look--I just want to speak to the Manager, please". She gets on the PA and calls for Nick. Nick eventually comes out about 3-5 minutes later while everyone is waiting and there are an additional 5 people waiting behind me now. She tells Nick that "I was abusive and called her (process) dum" to which I reply : "I'm just trying to return this item". Nick approaches and command the register and then leads me through a bunch of additional steps insisting that I use the exact credit card that I used when I bought the $20 item. He then says he "didn't appreciate me calling his clerk names". I said: I'm just trying to return this item and was criticizing the lengthy and difficult return process not her but she seemed to make the process difficult--come to think about it". Nick says "oh that's unfortunate" and then asks me for the receipt and leads me through at least 6 more steps. I need to swipe multiple credit cards through his machine several times and answer questions from the prompter. The machine registers the credit as an additional debit and I ask Nick: "Why is this machine registering this credit as a debit--do I answer yes or No to the question are you doing a debit transaction?" Nick says "that's why it ask the questions" I ask again "so -yes or no to debit"--he says "answer no". The machine cycles and ultimately rejects the transaction. Nick says: "you need to go through the process again". We do, and the same question comes up on the machine "are you doing a debit transaction?" I then say "Nick we're in the same place we were five minutes ago do I answer yes or no to this debit question? I don't want to pay twice for an item I'm returning". Nick says "answer yes". Not wanting to prolong this ordeal anymore as I've now spent almost 25 minutes returning this item I don't even care If I'm potentially paying $40 to return an item I just press "yes" and a receipt spits out of the machine. Nick insists I sign it and asks to see my iD. I do so. I look back and see about 8 people in line behind me now all shuffling impatiently. I then say "this has really been an ordeal what an idiotic process". Nick then says I do not appreciate you calling us names". Next time I need hardware I will just go to Tum A Lum or WalMart in Hood River which both don't charge 7% sales tax and seem to have clerks and managers that understand that customers are their life blood especially in the age of AI and Amazon. Disorganized, poor quality products, uninformed staff who tend to be really put out when asked questions, painfully slow checkout, do not accept returns on defective Ace products without receipt, unable to look up their own products from previous years, higher prices than other stores for same products. I would go out of my way to shop elsewhere. read more

Shopped here many times! I have always been pleased to get get the personal help from knowledgeable folks whether I'm looking for the right size screw, what grass seed is the best for where I live, or I'm trying to find stain for my deck. I'm not "handy" so I shop where people are willing to help. Thanks Ace! read more

I was driving by this place one day and saw a guy walking out. In his hand was a 30 pack of beer.... which was very confusing, since this is a hardware store. Anyways, I went in this Ace a few weeks later for some supplies, and sure enough, this Ace sells beer (quite a good selection I might add) and groceries. Really nice people too. read more

I love this place. They have an amazing selection of hardware and are my 'go to' when I need to do household repairs. Their selection is impressive and they have a nice variety of non-hardware products too. It's rare that I can't find what I need. Despite their small size, they often have what Home Depot does not. read more
