Handicapped people with service or therapy dogs not welcome…read more At approximately Noon on January 22, 2014 I entered The Shoe Dept. located at 1014 State Route 36 in the Wegmans/Walmart Plaza in Hornell NY with a handicapped client to work on training her dog to work in public. The dog is in training for service/therapy work. My client and I entered and I a took a minute to explain to her to move to an open area away from the door to give the dog a moment to acclimate to the environment. I told her that some adults and children are afraid of dogs and to make sure she goes to an area where there are no people. She told me she knew and mentioned a neighbor who is afraid of dogs. (We have had many training sessions up to this point. It is my policy to always remind clients about their part in their dogs' behavior & training) I then walked toward the checkout where an employee was standing and started to hand her my business card as I do each time I enter a business with a therapy or service dog that is in training or refreshing their training. I handed her my card and told her that we would be working on training the dog. She told me she had spoken to her manager about that and told me that her manager did not want me in the store with clients and their dogs. I told her it was the law that handicapped people and their dogs that are in training are allowed in any public place. She said "My boss doesn't want them in here". I said "But it's the law". The clerk said "She doesn't want them in here" I said ok tell your boss I will be posting this on my website." And we left.

When I walked in the lady at the desk told me she could price me but she was busy and I could leave them there and I would be contacted the next day. 3 days later I called and I was told the owner would call back. Another 2 days later I hadn't heard back STILL so I drive to the store to find my clothes hanging on the racks. I had brought in around 30 articles of clothing, I was told they were going to offer me $40... I was told I could take the money or go find my clothing on the racks and take it back... I don't understand why no one contacted me even after they admitted they knew they contacted someone else for my bundle. I would not recommend selling here. I will also not return here to shop which is disappointing because when I dropped off my clothes here it seemed like a cute shop.

She called again the next day and again her call was never returned. We went down to SoHo Clothing Exchange the next day because she was starting to get worried about being ripped off. Her fears were valid. As she entered the store there was a rack filled with her clothing that had been hung up and priced. Understand at this point that NO ONE had called her, NO ONE had given her the opportunity to see what items they wanted to purchase from her, NO ONE had given her any money or given her the chance to accept an offer to purchase them. Her property was for sale in this store without her permission. This is theft. The owner offered her $40 for the items that she kept and had already started selling. My daughter had no opportunity to even see what items the owner had kept and sold. My daughter was extremely angry at this point and told her she wanted $60 and all the rest of her stuff returned. At this point we should have called the police and filed charges, I wish we had. My daughter walked out of this store shaking in anger at being ripped off with $60 and less than a dozen items the owner did not want. This store kept over 35 items including leather boots and clothing with tags on them. The owner did offer my daughter the opportunity to go around the store and take her things back but what about the things the store had already sold? The employee is hardly ever there... he is often smoking outside or visiting other businesses nearby or simply absent. Most machines do not work and are in need of repair and maintenance. I have lost too much money at this place. Going elsewhere. Very disappointed.
