Adj: Super Sufficient for Souvenirs! This is the "famous" Walmart in Puerto Vallarta, (State of) Jalisco in Mexico. Every (or most) Mexican Riviera cruise stops at this port. After a full and fun day walking along the boardwalk/ocean front of PV, we stopped here for some souvenirs. This is the place to come for some little knick knacks pattywacks to bring home for loved ones and friends to bring them back little gifts and this Walmart definitely had a whole bunch of the keychains, little shot glasses, and other cutesy types of gifts. The store also had everything you'd expect from a Walmart from food fresh and pantry-shelf-stable, to clothing and shoes, to candies and snacks, to electronics and home appliances, to toys (esp. water toys and beach favorites) and games. Service was efficient and friendly with my very limited Spanish (they're used to tourists, I'm sure), so checkout was quick and easy. Overall, this Walmart was big, clean, and nice and neat and the prices were significantly better than the souvenir gift shops that are obviously tourist traps right at the cruise terminal, so a short walk here was worth it, even though we took a taxi on the way back to the cruise ship from the boardwalk, we did walk back to the ship after shopping here. read more

Anyone who's been to a Walmart in the US, will find an immediate familiarity with the Puerto Vallarta location. Bordering a Sam's Club (#1), it is strategically located near the Marina in the heart of Zona Hotelera and the Marina Vallarta (#2). Besides buying cheap'ish PV trinkets, magnets, memorabilia, this also serves as a place for toiletries, personal supplies, and even the occasional emergency beachwear. Americans love the place even more when they find it's excellent for air conditioning, accepts credit cards, has bathrooms and ATMs. What they don't have is good customer service. Quality interactions at Walmart should never be expected but the effort seems to be minimal across the board. A few other things to know is that the pricing is on part with the US and there are no fitting areas. Lastly, what's a Walmart without immense parking? There are plenty of spots, but it's not free. The 24 hour lot is $12MXN per hour and lost tickets can cost as much as $80MXN. Leave the bus stop for locals and the walking for the rest. If you pull into port in Puerto Vallarta there is a Walmart walking distance from the ship. If you forgot something stateside it is a great spot to go to. However the lines inside take forever. I spent more time inline than shopping. I need nice shirts for dinner for my kids who ran out of shirts to wear. I was able to find something suitable versus the high prices on the ship. If you need something go, otherwise skip it! read more

I travel to Puerto Vallarta often (like six times per year), and I always make a trip to the Wal-Mart. It's sort of a go-to staple for any visit to Mexico, in my opinion. They sell the stuff you'd expect at a typical Wal-Mart, but they carry so many awesome Mexican products that I love to buy to bring back with me to the States. The location is great, and they have a massive surface street parking lot with free parking. Next door to a Sam's Club, this huge Wal-Mart is located right across the street from the cruise ship dock, making it a great stop for any cruisers who forgot any essentials. You can easily walk here in less than 10 minutes. I've been on cruises where I needed toothpaste or shampoo or basic toiletries, and Wal-Mart was a life saver! They have lots of local / Mexican brands too, so be sure to take time to peruse the bath and beauty items for some cool useable "souvenirs" to take back home. It's also an excellent stop if you plan to cook or need snacks in your local condo or hotel! I also like to buy the special Mexican fideo soup packets (in the dry soup / noodle aisle) as well as coconut soap and real Mexican vanilla. Avoid the tourist areas and fake vanilla - you can get the real stuff here for cheap! Like $5 for a huge bottle, whereas you'll pay three times that or more in tourist shops! This is a terrific place to buy beer, wine, spirits, Mexican candy, souvenir t-shirts and more. My husband once forgot his laptop charging cable and we were able to find it here. Use the self check-out if you know a little Spanish. We love doing this because it's a great way to spend larger Pesos bills that most small businesses will refuse. You just put the large bills into the machine to pay, and you get smaller ones back. So much easier than going to a bank and trying to get them to break them. Absolutely outrageous experience at this Walmart in Puerto Vallarta the closest one to the Puerto Vallarta Marina Blvd., San Francisco spent almost an hour in line while the cashiers and other employees were being allowed to cut in in front of the other customers and ourselves waiting to try and pay for our groceries. they were laughing they were mocking. Great selection. We found everything we wanted - wine opener, beer, Halloween costume and snacks - all for a great price. We don't speak Spanish well and people were very kind to us and super helpful. The store is large and clean and I can't imagine there's anything it doesn't have. read more

On our last trip to Puerto Vallarta, I was traumatized bc my husband forgot to pack his undies, we booked a hotel in a LBGT town bc that was where the beach front hotels were affordable and resembled the French Riviera, the 5 stars American hotels, Hilton, Marriott were so far, 20min by car out of town, all the stores sold LBGT thongs! lol! we walked miles and miles all the way to downtown then I asked a local dude and was told to go to Walmart. OMG it was so amazing, it was like a 4 stars store, not what you think how it is in the USA, Walmart is almost an out of body experience almost like in Chong Qing, China where it was a high end department store. I love the fruit section, all the tropical fruits not found in the USA, I particularly love their yogurt, even if most were Yoplait, Activia, made in Mexico, they were all organic, no unhealthy fructose that is toxic, I also tolerate them, the recipe in the US gave me indigestion as I'm lactose intolerant. Walmart is part of a mall w a lot of boutiques and restaurants. It was a long ride from downtown, 20 minutes so it was walking distance to the hotel zone, from anywhere in PV, by ueber it was so cheap $8 fare. I love Mexico, I went there 2,3x a year just to eat yogurt, tacos n frutas, the cartels leave tourists alone but there can be collateral damage so this year w all the crackdown, I have not been to PV yet. read more

11/13/24, this Walmart was nice to visit in Mexico, just right across the street from our cruise ship. We found the workers in the store both out on the merchandise floor and at the self checkout lanes to be very helpful and friendly. We noticed that the store had mostly all self checkout lanes which is or has become the standard for most Walmart stores in the United States. The trend in many other big chain stores is self checkout lanes, automated checkout lanes are fast approaching where customers won't even need to scan each of their items. For a week long stay, I couldn't take the idea of eating out for each and every meal. By luck the suite we were staying in came with a a small kitchen which came with basic kitchen utensils. Word reached us about a Walmart 5-10 minutes away, so off we went to get the basics: water, soda, beer, eggs, bacon, bread, etc... This place is set up pretty much like the ones in the states except they cater more to the local folks. There are at least 3 things they have here that we don't back in any of the Walmarts I've been in states: a bakery, a deli, and a guy peeling and prepping cactus. I thought that was interesting. I was able to find what I needed - mostly breakfast stuff - with ease. The checkout line was a little chaotic but we still got through and walked outta there in no time. Prices are beyond reasonable: much less than what I would have spent if I were in the states. I was glad to learn it was here or I would have been limited to Oxxo runs. How do the locals survive? This place was super expensive. A certain lego of commander Cody in the US is $59, here in Puerto Vallarta, was $117. Crazy. Plus the lines were super long. A guy said he had been in line for the past 25 minutes just to move up five spots. The lines literally zig zagged through the aisles. Very little selection and if you are on a cruise ship, plan on spending lots of time in line as the ships' crew shops there. Also, there are soldiers walking around with automatic weapons and ammo draped over their shoulders which does not create a warm, fuzzy feeling. read more

It is right across the street from the Puerto Vallarta cruise ship terminals and is the place to go for supplies (saw a lot of cruise crew headed there). It is a full size Walmart with a pharmacy, groceries, and a large electronics section. Prices were comparable to a US Walmart with modern checkouts. read more

Terrible experience. We waited in a line of about 50 people in front of us. Only 2 checkouts lines open with about 50 in each. Only other option was self check but you need 20 items or less. The lines snaked thru the store. Never saw anything like that. Then we called Uber to pick us up. No one told us that Uber can't come into the parking lot without paying a fee, so they will pick you up out by the bus stop on the highway. Someone else calling them told us that. You have to push your cart across the large parking lot to get to the highway. Walmart sure doesn't want my business. Don't give them yours either. read more

The PV Walmart across from the Cruise Terminal. This is a dated not very clean feeling place. The pharmacy is very limited (not common antibiotics and no cortisone) and prices high. The last time we went to Puerto Vallarta we had more fun than the second and first time. This is why we are returning again. I absolutely love the Walmart there. They have so many things that Canada Walmart does not and at a fraction of the cost. Most of the staff were very friendly and tried to help. One woman employee was very rude but when I kept trying to ask her for help and making a huge effort to speak in Spanish she lightened up and pointed in the direction for what I was looking for. I even managed to get a smile out of her in the end. If I see her there this time I will make an another effort to say, "Hola" Bienos dias." Or what ever time of day it is. Walking distance from the cruise ship docks, this Walmart is awesome in every single way. There are taxis waiting at the entrances to take you anywhere else you want to shop. Pro-tip: They do not accept US dollars, but feel free to use your credit card and let your bank do the conversion. There is a cash exchange located in Walmart to change out your US dollars to Mexican pesos. Exchange rate isn't the best, but it's close to good. Trinkets and souvenirs are pretty cheap here, as well as other general merchandise. This Walmart is also a full on market with fresh fruits and vegetables, along with a full bakery. read more

we stay at a beach front condo when we come to town. I'm not a fan of the "american" version of mexican food near the resort...nor the american prices. Day 1 we take a cab to this walmart and stock up on everything we need for the week... and do our own cooking and drink mixing. i find everything i need here! we usually spend over an hour doing our shopping. The kids get to pick out their own pool and beach toys. they love it! i'm sure there are many other options for grocery shopping in the area but this Walmart has never failed me. Never thought I'll say this but I'm actually recommending this Walmart if you're trying to find some legit-looking souvenirs. Most of them are hecho en México and the selection is solid. I found this sombrero mini gift set that comes with a 50 ml (sample-sized) tequila paired with a shot glass that has Puerto Vallarta printed on it altogether for 110 pesos, which is roughly $8 CAD. I had the most horrible experience here and will never return and give off bad reviews for the customer service at this Walmart. the two times I had arrived here to buy a patio set I had dealt with three employees that provided me with the worst service I have ever experienced. I spoke English to them and was very nice and asked for my fiancé to translate for me but they were laughing at me and right as I turned my back away were talking about me behind my back. I can understand Spanish. Great location. Clean Walmart, good parking lot with option of covered parking. Parking Security gladly takes tips $10 pesos its a real good tip. $5 pesos is okay. Just like in the states Walmart is awesome because you may find anything you meed at low prices. Credit Cards are welcomed. They sell cold and room temperature alcohol. Fruits, veggies, frozen food, sunblock, anything you may need for your vacay even souvenirs. The bag kids/baggers work for tips only so $5 pesos or above its good for them. read more

Yes, there is Walmarts everywhere! Even here. And the best news is that you will find yourself spending 50% less here than in the USA. Everything is super cheap! 6 pack of Negra Modelo, 90 Pesos! Other items, super cheap! Nasal spray needed for my congested nose, only 30 pesos. And super cheap souvenirs compared to the Malecon shops. If you are in the Hotel zone, it is a 5 minute ride in a cab. Speaking of which.... it offers easy access back to your hotel and has a dedicated place for cabs to pick you up. Much easier than an Uber or other ride share service, the experience was phenomenal. If you are staying in PV and have cell phone needs, there is a TelCel distributor in electronics that will help you find what you need for your trip. You can get a short term cell phone chip and limited plan which is super cheap. Or you can get a handset, whatever you like. Caution to those who have a Walmart USA store branded card, they will not accept it here, you must use Visa or Mastercard. But everything here is much cheaper than the USA! A must to stop by here if you in a hotel for 7 days and the cab fare from the Hotel Zone to here is very reasonable. read more

I had a lot of fun wandering through the aisles at Walmart. This location is convenient situated next to a large mall (Galerias Vallerta) and near the marina (where cruise ships dock and many excursions by boat launch). I had forgotten my sun hat at home and was able to find a reasonably priced one up front and center in Walmart. They dedicate the front of the store to touristy items including sunblock and souvenirs. I didn't have much on my wishlist of items to bring back from Mexico, but I enjoyed going through the grocery aisles picking out snacks to bring home to family and friends. It was so much more convenient seeing the prices right on the shelf vs. having to ask and negotiate at stalls downtown. For someone who doesn't know Spanish I appreciated the ease of shopping at Walmart. read more

This Walmart is conveniently located near a mall. I was very impressed with the service my husband and I were shown. This is the first Walmart I've been to where they allow you to purchase fruit in halves and they even allow you to sample the fruit before you buy. If you are a tourist, Walmart is a great place to shop for quality alcohol, food and veggies. It also has a small section for a pharmacy. There is also a taxi station. Right outside and the drivers are actually very nice and welcoming. Make sure to ask for the price ahead of time. CSM was rude when I asked to trade a store pin from a California store..."We don't do that here in Mexico". I asked if I can see a manager and she answered for him/her that it would not be done no matter. As an associate myself, they weren't willing to give a discount after I pulled my discount card out. The cashier said that she would not accept it. The produce was a mess. Associates were very young and sitting on benches in front as they seem to take breaks in groups. I shopped at the marina Walmart yesterday and while I was waiting at the meat counter, I watched a lady put a set amount of ground beef onto a tray and then shrink-wrap it.. Near her was a man with a single tray of ground beef who kept pressing the button and getting the same weight and price for every piece. He then put the tags on every piece of ground beef even though none of them were actually weighed. Dozens of packages of ground beef were priced the same but none of them were actually weighed or correctly tagged. read more
