You know...it's a Wal-Mart. As far as Wal-Marts go, this one's a nice one. It's usually not too crowded and has a decent selection in all departments. They added the grocery section a few years back, which is nice. This is the best place to get frozen items at the best price (e.g. Healthy Choices, Lean Cuisines, frozen pizzas). Their bakery also has some cool items, and they have a big produce section. I'm still a little skeptical of their meat section...I usually stick to a traditional grocery store for that. They have lots of aisles, but usually only three open (in typical Wally World fashion), but they do have the choose-your-own-adventure self-checkout machines, which may make your visit a little quicker. All in all, it's a nice-to-have on James Island for those odds and ends you need from time-to-time. read more

Rude employees everyone I go! Especially when they are on the floor working. Don't ask where anything is, they will bark at you!

This place is good. It also seems like a necessity because I do depend on it being on the island. The customer service seems subpar to me. It may be that they had a big employee meeting going on and they were all gung ho about it but I walked around for about 5 minutes near electronics and no one came to see if I needed anything. So I left and did not get anything. Was looking at sound ideas or my TV. Still not sure. Think I may need to hit up Best Buy or someone that specializes in it. read more

Had a bag worth about $30 left at Walmart last night so my husband called and they said we could pick it up today at customer service, we show up around 12 and they told my husband all his stuff was put back and he had to go find it all over again and they were extremely rude about it! Purchased printer ink that was advertised to fit my printer (per the box). It didn't fit. Wal Mart refused to refund for the product that did not fit as advertised. Equivalent to stealing $25. I'm finished with Wal Mart. read more

One of the few "old skool" Wally Worlds left. Plus they sell cheesey shot glasses and trinkets with James Island written on them, making you think it's some sort of beach resort town. If you've ever been to JI, you would know that it's far from that. The only beach we have on JI is Mosquito Beach, and if you don't live there, you have no business going there. Trust me. read more

I was amazed by the service I received in this store. Not only were sales associates incredibly helpful when I was searching for items but I also had two site to store items to pick up. The associates I interacted with while picking up my items were very helpful. When another associate would walk by and see us standing there waiting for the items they always made sure we were being helped. When I realized that one of the items would never fit in my car with all the packaging the store manager quickly found an employee with a truck and he happily drove it downtown to my apartment for me. Overall - the service at this store was AMAZING and I will definitely go back. read more

There was, what appeared to be, racial profiling going on today. Disclaimer: I didn't witness the whole thing. But I heard the conversation at the end where both sides explained what happened. It didn't seem they had a clear reason to ask the boy to leave. They said one thing and then suddenly it had to do with a basketball he had just started dribbling. He bought the basketball. Everyone was calm on both sides (except for the child who was very upset, understandably). The store employees laughed and rolled their eyes mostly behind her back. I thought it was unprofessional that they didn't take this woman seriously. It seems the whole thing could have been avoided if they didn't follow the child around the store in the first place. I also found it odd that only white male employees were dealing with a situation with a black family. interesting choice. I did see the walmart employee follow the boy around and the child was asking the guy to stop and he said hey sorry I was just told to do this. I don't blame the employee. management should have handled it better. Don't follow people around the store. the mom explained that the kid was dodging the man "playing with him" because he was following the kid around the store.I think that's what caused walmart "suspicion" but again they never made it clear why her son was being banned or even asked to leave. From what I could hear. And I was right next to them so i could hear the vast majority of what was said. They didn't ban the entire family. Just the child. And of course the mother was like obviously none of us are coming back. I don't blame her. read more

If I could score this Walmart 0 star I would, I stopped by to buy a bike and do my weekly grocery, I started with finding the bike I wanted, no staff visible to assist, I had to go to the cashiers area to ask for help, they called for help.... 10 min nobody shows up, finally found an associate next to the bike area, I told her I'm still waiting, she called for help again (we are talking about waiting 20 min), somebody showed up and guess what, don't have a clue how to get the bikes off top racks. I told him to stop before somebody get hurt. I just gave up. I was leaving and I asked to speak with a manager.....they called him, he walked right by me (even the associate who called him tried to get his attention), If this Walmart don't need my $300-350, that's fine. read more

I love the new and improved Walmart my review is a newer review so the people judging it saying its not a super walmart it now is. They added on making it now a super walmart with a big grocery section and many more departments. My only complaint would be that it isn't 24 hours I don't understand why it isn't. Line waits are never long employee are always waiting for you in front of their line if they aren't serving anyone very good for people in a rush trying to get in and out. They alway added on the 10 items are less side to the store so you can tell the walmart is improving from what they use to be. I have no complaints I love shopping here. Huge selection of Christmas goods much more then the other local Walmart's I choose this Walmart due to shorter lines and very friendly helpful staff. Also have layaway and huge fishing tackle the sporting good section is much better because of it being close to the ocean. Also got my fishing license here within minutes high recommend this Walmart over the others! read more

Customer service lied about their return policy and refused to issue me a gift card/store credit and immediately put the refund back on my credit card. Called other Walmarts and they said customers have the option of receiving store credit or refund. They just didn't feel like doing it I'm assuming. Poor service. read more

A super store only because they added on just enough building to squeeze in a grocery section. The selection is disappointing compared to stores that were built to be "super." Major plus - employees are helpful - way above average. Major negative is pricing - why does everything at a Charleston area Walmart seem to cost exactly 5% more than either Columbia or Greenville? Since I know they will be out of the cheese, creamer, luncheon meat, or some other really common item, unless I have a large grocery list, I am stopping at the Super Bi-lo - just down the street. Much better selection, almost always in stock, equally friendly staff, far less frustration. Just don't go there with a long list - is generally pricier. read more

I was extremely disappointed by the service and professionalism of the assistant manager James. I have never had an issue with returns before at any Wal-Mart, but this evening I not only left extremely frustrated, but was insulted by the assistant manager to top it off. 3 days ago I purchased several boxes of Christmas lights, paying full price at a Wal-Mart in Durham, NC. I brought the lights home to Charleston, SC and found that I did not need all of the boxes that I had purchased. Today, I went to return the un-opened, un-used, 3 day old boxes with my receipt in hand and my return was refused. Not only did he refuse to accept my return, but he also failed to offer a "price adjustment" for the 50% off the lights were on sale for today. To top it off, when I requested to see the signage that stated that "All Seasonal Items are Final," he was unsure if they had taken it down or not. I commented that this is absurd, the receipt is only 3 days old and I paid full price. It was not as if I purchased a clearance item or even a sale item. To my comment he proceeded to tell me I was absurd for attempting to return a seasonal item. I immediately contacted the Wal-Mart in Durham, NC who is happy to return the merchandise in full, as I have my receipt, until January 4th. I will NEVER step foot in this Wal-Mart again. read more
