During my purchase, the exact same item was scanned twice and I was charged twice for it. I already use a very deliberate checkout system specifically to prevent this: I hand the cashier only one item at a time, with the hanger removed, and after the item is scanned it goes directly into the bag. Despite that, the same item was still scanned twice. I discovered the mistake after I got home. I called the store, provided my receipt information, and asked them to review the transaction before I returned. The next morning I had to make a separate trip back to the store solely because of their mistake. The duplicate charge was refunded, but returning money that should never have been charged in the first place is not compensation. I still lost my time, used gasoline, and had to rearrange my schedule because of a Ross checkout error. What made the experience much worse was the employee's behavior afterward. While I was waiting for the supervisor to review the surveillance footage, the employee involved was discussing me with a customer, pointing in my direction, and laughing. She also argued with me that "humans make mistakes" and that Ross does not owe customers compensation for those mistakes. Of course humans make mistakes. But customers should not have to pay for employee mistakes with another trip, their time, gasoline, and inconvenience. I also found her appearance extremely unprofessional for a customer-facing employee: a significant amount of bright pink underwear was visibly exposed above her pants. An "I'm sorry" does not reimburse a customer for the actual cost of somebody else's mistake. If you shop at this Ross, count your items and carefully check every line on your receipt before leaving. Otherwise, correcting someone else's mistake may cost you another trip, your time, gasoline, and unnecessary frustration.
