Walmart's best feature, particularly at its Supercenters, is its comparable pricing. They do a good job of providing a nice variety of products in all categories. Even a Big & Tall section for men. They price match (as long as you bring proof of the other deal) and have a pretty good return policy. I must warn though, that if you shop after midnight, you may have some trouble navigating your cart through aisles. They bring out pallets of product for stocking and can often block off entire sections, especially the spaces in between the little freezers between the refrigerated perimeter and the actual aisles. The other problem I have with them is that you may often be forced to use the self-service registers between midnight and early morning, as no cashiers are stationed at registers. My personal problem with that is that our purchases pay for the business in all aspects (building rent/location, utilities, advertising and yes, employee wages). To be specific, our business pays their salaries. That being said, if the cashier is removed from the process and I'm to ring up my own purchases AND bag them, WHY am I paying the same price? I honestly feel that there should be some incentive to use the self-service registers. Perhaps a 5% discount. Hey, I'm not lazy, but when the cashier tells me that they shouldn't have to ring up purchases 24/7 and that we need to shop during normal hours (if we want them to ring us up), I have a huge problem with that. There are people who work different shifts who, for them, 3rd shift shopping IS their normal time. Me personally, I hate self-checkout. You have to ask for codes for produce (if there's no printed decal), desserts like donuts from the bakery, etc. Last night, I had to call someone over who told me to look up the codes and when I did, even SHE had trouble finding the matching code. My check-out took almost 15 minutes!!!! This is with NO one ahead of me. I was going to talk about the ongoing internet joke that Walmart is a haven for the severely under-dressed and seedy underbelly of the area, but hey, you already know. Just watch Facebook, Instagram and Twitter posts long enough. You'll either laugh or shake your head in disgust. Still, their Amish Potato Salad is AWESOME!!!

Overall, I try to avoid shopping in the large box stores, but on this occasion I had to go inside for a large order.

They had a custom board made for the COVID 2020 nonsense as you can see in the photo. The prices are super reasonable and they have a ton of great stock to build a custom board or to replace parts on yours. They also have pre-built boards if you're looking to get riding quickly. The store has some great clothing, shirts and pants, great shoe selection, and used records. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area and need to get on some wheels. We will definitely be back again for more!

Mason has an awesome niche of a business in the heart of Pickerington. Attentive, helpful, and pleasant to chat with. His original skate store was in downtown Lancaster for several years, but as business slowed and many closed up shop, he eventually closed that store because of the dying foot traffic, and opened this current brick-and-mortar. Across the street from one of the junior highs and high schools, he gets a steady flow of young patrons looking to feed their skateboarding addiction. Pickerington even built a skate park for the locals. He's aware of the current trends, and does a great job sticking what's in style and on-culture. This store has a little bit of everything: skateboards, wheels, shoes, apparel and accessories, name brand stickers, and even current punk mostly vinyl records, too. If you are in need of some board repair, this is the perfect place. There's not many independently owned skate shops left around, and I'm so glad Careless Heart is thriving! Oh, and this store is perfect for gifting. If you have family/friends into the skateboard culture, ta da! From small inexpensive paraphernalia to larger purchases, there's all kinds of stuff to appease that person.

How many times have you encountered a specialty store that lived up to your preconceived notions…read moreabout the business, but surpassed those ideas? If your answer is "Never!" or "Not very often!" then I will tell you that I was a member of that club. That was true until today. I have Parkinson's Disease, which affects my gait when walking and erodes the strength in my muscles, especially my legs. However, a friend suggested that I make an appointment at the FootWorks store in Pickerington, Ohio, and just see what they can do for me. She allayed my concerns that they "would only want to sell me orthotic inserts." she told me this store would talk to me about what I needed to ease my pain and suffering, yes suffering. My wife and I made an appointment, and due to a customer cancellation, we were able to get in earlier. So, today we went to the store. Justin, co-owner, greeted us both. Then, he talked to me about my needs. I explained my need to get shoes that fit properly and allowed me to walk safely. My wife and I are participating in "Moving Day" in October, to support the Parkinson's Foundation by fund-raising and walking a full mile course. Even though I have contracted painful cellulitis in my left leg, I am still determined to complete the distance. Justin was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and "willing" to work with me to provide the tools (shoes) to accomplish my personal goal. I knew my own shoes did not fit and caused even more pain and trouble. He measured both of my feet and told me he knew why I was having pain. My own shoe, a size 11, was not the correct size for my feet. I am really a size 12 1/2. No wonder I had blisters, bruises, and my feet hurt all the time! What a relief to hear that something could be done! But, only buying shoes that were my correct size was not the answer. I needed shoes that supported my feet, alleviated some of my pain. Justin showed me several different walking shoes "in my size" that surprised me with how comfortable they were. My walker is used for mobility, and as Justin and my wife watched me walk down the hallway, they remarked about how I was standing taller, my ankles were unlocked but supported and I was not dragging my feet, as I normally walk. (A common characteristic of people with advanced Parkinson's Disease). My belief about any business has always been that "customer service is the hallmark of any company." If you feel the same way, then check out FootWorks where you will be given outstanding customer support and shown quality products for your foot needs. The FootWorks Store is highly recommended by my wife and me. I ordered a pair, but will sadly have to wait till next week to get them shipped to the store. However, I have waited far too long already to get good shoes like these, so one week isn't really that long. Besides, I need to heal from my cellulitis so that I can continue my mile-long walking goal with my team. Maybe I'll see you on Parkinson's Moving Day. We'll likely recognize each other by how comfortably we are walking around on the trail!
