This Walmart location has made a notorious name for being one of the worst Walmarts in the area; not just for what is allowed outside of the Walmart (people selling such, asking for money, etc) but also what goes on inside of the Walmart. Walmart have a tendency of having employees that disappear when you need them or rarely show up when you press the HELP button on a locked display. Another issue is the Walmart app not being consistent with the store. You can purchase something through the app or see something is in stock at this particular store and when you actually get there and are able to catch an employee to ask, they don't have it stock. read more

This place is clean, this place is brand spankin' new, what more reason do you need to visit this particular location? Ok, ok, it's also 24 hours, did I get your attention now? Good! So for all of you that already know about this location and have been here frequently, ask yourself why would people leave their trash on the shelves. Can you just hang onto it long enough to find a trash can? Yes, it is true that this is a store and there will always be someone that will come by and pick it up. I just hope you are the one at your job that has to pick up other people's trash they leave around. Came here for opening day and it was amazing! Everything was nice and neat, shelves were stocked, and tons of open lanes to pay even with the hoards of people coming in to shop! Fast forward 5 days later: Came in around 11PM (Sunday) for some last minute things for the week. Parking lot had trash EVERYWHERE, shopping carts were in parking spaces, and blocking cars or piled by the cart rack. Inside: Looks clean when you walk in but as soon as you start walking the isles everything is thrown around, tons of carts with go-backs by the registers (with milk and eggs sitting in them), and trash all over the place. The managers really need to hire more night staff to upkeep the place. Please people put things back where they go or at least attempt too! South Gate needs this Wal-Mart bad and let's not ghetto this place up! read more

Came here today and the set up at this location is totally different from other Walmart's. When I finally found what I came in for they didn't even have prices on the shelves for customers to know how much the product was. There weren't any prices near the surrounding products either. I found an employee and asked if she had a scanner so I could price check and was told that the scanner was around the corner. I get around the corner to (2) customers already using the scanner for EVERY PIECE of merchandise they had grabbed in the store. They had clothes and everything. I had to wait while they scanned each item and afterwards they apologized, lol. Scanned my item and headed to the register. Self check out was pretty confusing. Only some registers took cash and the bulk of the others took debit. They didn't have the registers w/ signage or labeled for which ones took cash only and which ones took card only. read more

If I can leave 0 stars I would. Had to be the worst Walmart around that area. I tried refunding a oil jug container with my receipt within 90 days of purchase, keep in mind I've only had it for about 3-4 days. It wasn't the same Walmart I originally purchased it which was in downey. I was there at the time of purchase but the azalea Southgate Walmart is closer to home which is where I went for the return. Old man that "helped" me seemed to be lazy and told me I couldn't return it because it had oil but that's the reason why I am returning it because it was actually leaking and defective. And according to Walmart policy I CAN still return it if it was defective which it was because it a hole in one of the points of contact where oil leaked through. Everything is fine up until you have to pay for your epsom salt at a different area of the store. So inconvenient that to purchase deodorant one also has to go to a certain aisle to pay for the item. I get it there must be a lot of theft but to shop at this store is not worth it. Let me start of with saying for a big store and to one person to have a key to open the safe boxes is ridiculous , I waited about an estimate of 25 min for someone to help out, And during those 25 min of waiting I asked several employees to call the person with the key . After being given the run around from the guys in the electrics department and the "employees" playing around in costumer service, it's crazy how these ppl weren't interested in helping me return a phone at all and this was the last day I could do so. A gentleman by the name of KC actually listened to how serious the situation was and went to ask his manager if he could help us with our return. Once he got all the information he walked us through the process and helped us complete our return. Wal-Mart needs more employees like KC and less like the young lady who likes to text in front of customers who are in need of help. I'm not sure what people expect from any Walmart. After all, this is not Target. Target stores are traditionally nice and clean and well organized. Walmarts are usually the opposite. But a better bargain than Target. At any Walmart, you will experience a lot of bargain hunters. Thus, lines will be traditionally long. However, South Gate Walmart is suprisingly cleaner than most Walmarts. It is blocks away from 710 fwy. So you will also experience more people than usual. I just visited this store to buy a combination of personal items and groceries. Everything that I wanted, I checked on my Walmart app for inventory. Walmart app can be downloaded from google or apple store. Most people have android and ios devices. App is free. It comes with barcode scanner and everything. So you can scan things in your house or a store to compare prices and check local Walmart inventories. App checks any local Walmart inventory for stock and list it "In Stock," "Limited Stock," or "Out Of Stock," So if you are going to this store without first checking stock, then you really can't complain about stock availability. This is 2014. The Walmart app is free. Do yourself a favor and check inventory before going to this store. Everything that I wanted was in stock. I usually go to the Walmart on Normandie in Torrance, CA. Let's just say that this Walmart is way better than that one, in terms of available stock, available parking, and overall experience. My decision to even go to South Gate Walmart was the fact that everything I put in my cart using the Walmart app showed out of stock at Normandie Walmart and "in stock" at this Walmart. I can't tell you about my experience with waiting in lines for live cashiers. I really don't do the whole live cashier check out anymore, since I'm sick of baggers mixing my groceries with household products and/or not double bagging. So I went to self-checkout out. Obviously, there is a cashier or 2 monitoring self-check out for theft. But, it's a lot faster, depending on if you're used to self-check out. I use coupons as well. So I like the fact that I can scan my own coupon at self-check out and feed it to kiosk. Not to mention this place is a Supercenter. So it is open 24/7. I can wake up at 1am and decide that I want to go shopping at Walmart in South Gate. I can't tell you about customer service, returns, or anything else. Because I never returned anything. I knew what i wanted. Everything that was listed on the Walmart app for this location was in stock. So there are no complaints. This is a good Walmart so far. There are a large selection of other businesses that share parking lot. But there is always available parking. read more

Very disappointed every time I call they seem to not answer or when they do they are very disrespectful, rude and you get the feeling of them just wanting to hang up and just get on with their shift....I get it the store gets busy but you guys signed up for the job you knew what to expect. We were confused leaving the store because every exit is an emergency exit for some reason, so an alarm will sound when you walk through. We asked the lady at the register if it was ok to go through, and she just gave us sass and attitude for no reason. If you don't like your job, go find another one... this place is always really crowded, so expect to have trouble finding parking and sass when you ask for help. read more

Went in bright and early to return a crock pot before work. Went in at 7:10, the "manager"- Anthony sucked! He saw he had a line building up and I stead of stopping what he was doing , he continueD UNTIL he was done with putting the stands, there was an older gentleman in front of me, being super friendly just asked if could help , completely ignored him. When it was finally my turn, he looked at me and said where's the sticker I said what sticker he said a return sticker, go back and get it from the door, I was like ughh went back to get one and came back and he was just being so rude. I'm very disappointed with "Raymond's" behavior towards the paying customers. Raymond's demeanor demonstrates no sympathy for customers. As a financial center manager I can say he doesn't have the training nor the skills needed to interact with customers. Employees like Raymond give big companies a bad reputation. Based on my interaction with Max, one of the floor managers, I can tell the level of tolerance for this type of behavior. As I was expressing my dissatisfaction with Raymond, not even once Max apologize. It's unfair for employees like Andrea to work with these type of employees. Max needs to be trained properly so he can then lead and demonstrate how customers should be treated. Raymond has a lot to learn about customer service. I'm definitely not coming back to this store. Worst type of customer service I have ever received. I went Christmas shopping with my boss for our work's Christmas associate appreciation party and ESMERALDA who was the cashier in ELECTRONICS was very rude to us. We had exactly 10 stuff in our cart and very rudely told us "this is 10 or less" and rolled her eyes at us. And when we asked for help getting some earbuds she told us to wait and make line but we were already in front of the line there was no one behind us! When I went with her to pick up the earbuds she pushed me away and said " go wait for me in the register I'll be there right now" which got me thinking she either did something to the earbuds or something. With the earbuds it did pass 3 extra items in which I told her I would pay on my own since my boss was paying the other 10 items. And she counted everything out loud as if we had not counted them for her before paying. Before we were done paying we didn't end up taking one of the electronics we wanted and she said "well I'm going to ask you guys to take it back to where you got it from" and rolled her eyes at us AGAIN! My boss and I come from a well known store and we also handle a lot of customers therefore we KNOW how a customer SHOULD BE TREATED. A cashier is the last person the customer sees before they exit the store and ESMERALDA made us feel very welcomed while shopping. After paying I spoke with her, and I told her myself that her customer service and attitude was not appreciated since we did not disrespect her ourselves nor were rude to her whatsoever. She completely ignored me and rolled her eyes and I just walked away. But before I left I left the electronic we DID NOT PAY FOR with her since it's her job to as a cashier to keep the go backs as well. Our trip to this Walmart was ruined due to ESMERALDA. I just wish they train cashiers to be good to their customers since at the end of the day, customers are the reason they have a job! read more

Not only did it take me and my wife asking 5 separate people to ask to open the menswear section but I'm currently waiting in line to buy the shirts after the associate had to drop them off himself at the register because I guess I look like a person that would steal $10 worth of white tees. Bad, uncomfortable and rude customer service from the manager, Martin. After shopping for groceries and selecting items throughout the entire store, I stopped at cosmetics. The cosmetic section was blocked by a shopping cart and an employee in a yellow vest and ear piece, Martin. I asked him if I could get in to grab cotton. He directed me towards another isle. I explained I needed cotton face swabs and asked to walk through since they're only located in there. He simply said no and turned his face. I was confused since it was only 9pm and the store closes at 12?!?I asked if HE could grab them for me after I explained it was the only item I needed. Again, he said no and turned his face still blocking the walk way. There were still people in the cosmetic section shopping, nothing was announced in the intercom in the past hour I was there. In addition there was no signage explaining cosmetics was closed. He was very rude and laughed when I asked him if he could grab the cotton for me? He works there & im spending money which helps his place of employment! I asked why he couldn't and he said "because it's closed" and turned his back! Very rude and unprofessional especially because the store is jammed packed at this hour & other customers including Walmart employees are witnessing this behavior. Prices are not bad , place does get overcrowded as most Walmart's on a weekend though. Customer service is horrible , I would not recommend coming to this location , it took more than 30 minutes to get help with items that are locked by key and another 15 minutes for the item to get to the checkout stand. read more

I regularly come here to do money services with the express feature offered on the app. It's a great way to save time when going to do a service. I was told they don't have an express lane anymore because of "complaints" from customers but it's pointless for the Walmart app to allow you to do this service online if they won't allow it in the store. It would have been helpful if the app would've let us know ahead of time. read more
