I'm writing this review for my 80+ year old aunt and 61 year old cousin who got charged with shoplifting this week at the South Hill, Va Walmart. I'm furious and this is just where I'm starting with filing complaints for them. They were using the self service checkout and the associate assisting the customers had to keep coming over to clear the checkout because it kept malfunctioning (at least 10-12 times during their transaction). He would clear the problem and told them to continue scanning their items, which they did. They finished and paid and went to leave the store, at which time they were stopped by another Walmart associate and taken to an office where they were accused of shoplifting. All of their items had to be checked. The lady doing this, asked my cousin where was the Red Bull that was on the receipt. He told her he did not purchase a Red Bull because they do not drink Red Bull. She insisted it was on the receipt and implied they must have scanned a Red Bull in lure of something more expensive in their cart (in other words, price changing). After searching again and then realizing what she thought was Red Bull on the receipt was actually Red Bell Pepper. Than, she did the same thing with beanie weinies. Saying there was beanie weinies on the receipt, but no beanie weinies in the bags. After searching again, she found the beanie weinies. By this time my 80+ year old aunt (who has severe heart issues) is shaking and so upset. Never being in any type of trouble in her entire life, you can only imagine what is going on in her head. Her son, my 61 year old, was scared to death his mother was getting ready to have a heart attack, having to go through this. Neither of them have ever been in any kind of trouble, so both were freaking out. At the end of their searching and accusing of pricing changing and all this unnecessary disrespect, they did find a few items that did not scan. Approximately $40 or less worth of stuff. (I'm still trying to get all of the details, because I do plan to pursue a formal complaint with corporate on this). Of course, the Walmart associate felt like she had done a great job catching shoplifters. All the while my cousin telling her, the guy assisting the self check out customers had to keep coming over to clear the register because it was malfunctioning and each time told them to continue scanning the items as they were. She acted like it was something they were doing causing it to malfunction so they could get out of paying for some items. The police were called and the associate had my cousin charged with shoplifting. And get this!!! They would have charged my 80+ year old aunt, but in the Walmart Associate's words, "she doesn't fit our profile." But my 61 year old cousin fits "Walmart's Profile" for shoplifters. Profiling, really!!! So, if you are 61 years old, you fit a shoplifters profile in their eyes!!! All of this is so unacceptable!!! Walmart pushes people to use their self checkout lines. Than, when people have issues with it, they want to accuse and charge them with shoplifting??? My cousin now has a court date in July for this. I realize it will probably all work out just fine. But do you think my aunt, who already has severe heart issues, is going to be able to sleep a good nights sleep until all of this is behind them. It could possibly cause her more damage to her heart. Someone who has never been in any type of trouble in their entire life worries about stuff to the extreme. So take note: Do not use the self check out lines if you have to go to Walmart in South Hill. Chances are you might have to face a judge. And to the Walmart Associate that was so disrespectful of two very good people, I hope you lose your job! You do not need to be in customer service cause you obviously were determined to pin shoplifting on someone. She couldn't even read the receipt properly to see the difference in Red Bull and Red Bell Peppers. Didn't even apologize for any of this either. I think a news crew should show up for this court date!!! This is so unbelievable wrong in so many ways. Walmart in South Hill, Va. should get all the publicity they deserve with this one. I think I'll be making that trip with them and making sure the news crews are aware of such stuff happening in the court room that day as well. read more

Decent for a Walmart. I stopped in late and picked up a few things. The store is decently stocked and while the cart corrals needed attention, the rest of the Supercenter was tidy and clean. Restrooms were in good shape. With my merchandise in hand, I parked the Sprinter van in a corner for the night. I was not disturbed and that's a plus. I'm always a fan of Walmarts that allow overnight parking for us RVers. And I would caution my fellows - don't ruin a good thing. Be quiet, be clean and be respectful. Unsanitary! on the floor in the bathrooms. Not to mention the grouchy cashier who was annoyed I didn't want plastic bags & had brought my own... not sure why that was an issue. Layout is the oddest I have ever seen in a Walmart making a simple box of excedrin hard to find. Most of the salad selections were bad! read more

All you'd expect from a Walmart Super Center. Affordable grocery items, abundance of sale items and the works. Large parking lot, free WiFi, just off the I-85 exit 12B. If you're staying at one of the nearby hotels and need something while on travel - Walmart is a good choice. read more

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. I usually use yelp to see pictures of restaurants before I go to them. I don't usually write reviews because I'm not the type to voice my opinion, it's just not who I am. After my experience with this Walmart, I felt it was only right to tell people how I feel. First of all, I come from a family of southern hospitality & the customer service there was AWFUL. Because I was visiting Lake Gaston & unfamiliar with the store, I asked employees where I could find certain items... between the rolling eyes & disrespect I received from employees, I was disgusted. I have never experienced so much rudeness in my entire life. I asked to speak to the manager & even the manager was rude to me!! At this point... I was over it. My family & I we're even willing to go to another Walmart but if you are familiar with Bracey, VA then you know that's the only Walmart near. We get to the self check out cause we didn't want to be forced to have a conversation with any other employees at this store. Unfortunately, we had alcohol in our cart for our party tomorrow so we knew we'd have to talk to at least one more. Personally, I don't like to remember people who are rude to me but I do like to remember people who can change the entire experience. An employee, Jean, was extremely nice. She made me feel so welcoming & like everything/everyone bad didn't matter cause there is still people like her in the world. Even though all she did was check our IDs, she was the sweetest and kindest employee we had interacted with in the hour we spent in there. I know there's not many options on where to grocery shop when your in Bracey, but my advice to you... Go to food lion or only talk to that woman when you go. The disrespect is not worth it. This experience has really made me think if I should go to corporate or not. I hope the manager of this location sees this & can contact me so I can explain how awful his is & the people are that he is hiring. read more

I usually don't like superstores because I always get lost between the shelves. I'm not a frequent shopper and I just need a couple items once in a while, so a superstore where I have to walk a lot just to get a couple items would be a big no-no. I HAD TO shop here because I had no other options (no CVS nearby that has what I wanted, I guess), and my experience was magnifique (awesome)! The place was neat and nicely cleaned, and the staff were completely nice! They didn't have all the information (professional/technical) I needed, but the ladies here tried their best to assist me and I could feel that they genuinely wanted to HELP their customers. read more

This is the worst walmart anyone could ever go to. You can't tell if the employees are going to say how may i help you or give me your wallet!! Poorly managed from well above the general manager level. Bathrooms are always horrid and majority of stuff is out of stock. Lastly the manger or employee who makes these facebook post for the store has a very poor vocabulary. Most of the loyal customers are not fluent in ghetto!! This Walmart sucks very poorly managed never anyone in lawn and garden to check you out never enough registers open rude employees shelves stay tore up deli may be open or not employees stand around and will tell you they aren't going to help you and don't interrupt their conversation. Never a good shopping experience. Most of the floor associates act like they don't want to be bothered. There's hardly ever any lines open to check out. And the ones that are, usually have cashiers that pay no attention to you. Rude service, not enough help. Don't go in expecting to run in and run out. read more

I wanted to buy a Red Ryder BB gun for my nephew's birthday. It was inside a glass case in sporting goods. There was no one behind the counter so I looked around and found two employees a couple aisles over. I asked if they could open the case. They replied they were filling online orders and didn't have keys to access the BB gun case. They suggested I speak with the guy in the automotive section. I thanked them and walked over there. He was the only employee in automotive and he had three customers in line. I knew there was no hope there, so I returned to sporting goods to see if maybe someone had returned from break or something. It was still a ghost town. So I used my cell phone to call the front desk. I navigated the answering machine until I got a human. I explained what I needed and she said someone would be there shortly. So I waited...and waited. 20 minutes passed. Nobody. I called again. This time she called over the intercom "customer needs assistance in sporting goods". I waited, but nobody came. By this time I had been in the store over an hour. I called again. This time as soon as they heard my voice they slammed the phone down. I called back. A different person answered. Despite being fairly angry, I politely explained my situation and asked for help. Her response, with an attitude: "we're busy, can't you just walk around and get somebody." I told her when she was less busy she could stick that BB gun up her [expletive deleted] and go [expletive deleted] herself. I've met some useless people in my day, but the employees of this Walmart are on another level.. read more

My experience with this Walmart is always good. Haven't had bad experiences. I mainly go here to get books and video games. Tbh. Lol.

Walmart is value shopping to meet customer preference for lower pricing. While they are not overstaffed, I often find someone to assist me. I have had customer service personnel walk me to specific isles even in other department to help me and everyone I reach out to is helpful and courteous. Granted the customer service area, pharmacy and cashier areas are swamped with customers at times, however, there are times where there is a no wait. The self checkout units seem to work better than in the past and is an efficient way to checkout. Plus the person overseeing that checkout process will often checkout your order if it is a small number of items. I am in Walmart 3-4 times per week and on the average I have a good experience. I do feel their produce department has room for improvement and looks like a recent nationwide survey agrees. I've used their online ship to store shopping option several times....AWESOME. Also Robert from housekeeping is always pleasant and has helped me several times find items in the store. read more

u have a very nasty big older blond worker in your store today 9/29/2022 at around 1 20 pm thinking she is God self-checkout what a joke had problems scanning things started running her mouth like we were trying to steal their carp very loud am 68 am not going to listen to that crap from and under paid employee because you don't hire enough people well am and ex huge union member tonight at are meeting you will be discuss as a huge number one problems in our area stores u better get a hold self s because am personally going to quit shopping at your stores and my members will do the same that loud mouth that thinks we were trying to get this without paying for them is out of her Mind she will cost u business problems . This Walmart store is noticeably improved at check out. It is not only the new supervised self-checkout express that runs seamlessly -- its the employees!!! I was in store twice today and there were enough staffed, no waiting registers opened both times. The first time there the cashier was efficient with little wait, so I thought the 2nd time I would use a cashier again, which I never do. Amir was at the front of the store and encouraged me to use self-checkout. I had a lot of items and really wanted a cashier. This is the second fantastic experience with Amir. He took all the items from my basket and put on the belt to help me and then loaded bags into the cart. Amir is professional, engaging and very kind. It's nice to see employees showing that they like what they do and want to ensure you have a good shopping experience. I had a long day and he bumped up my mood! read more
