sliced steak on a cutting board

Did you know you can get wagyu steak at Walmart? Oh my it was hard to find but I finally did get my hands on some. And seeing the price point, so worth it. As opposed to going to a steakhouse spending anywhere from $50-$100 for a much smaller cut. I mean of course it's nice to get out to a fancy steakhouse sometimes to indulge but this definitely works for one of those days you just feel like cooking at home. Simply added salt and pepper, I might've over cooked a little but still so good, so fattylicious, definitely worth it Side note- I didn't go into that Walmart madness, signed up for their plus membership for free delivery and of course tip your driver well

So I stopped by Walmart today with my mother to pick up a few things. I am typically not a fan of Walmart but today I had a great experience. I received excellent customer service from an associate on the floor and the cashier. They were so helpful and kind. The store was well stocked and had great prices. Today's experience made me want to give Walmart another shot. I'll be back...

A "good enough" Wal-Mart that is a Supercenter, meaning that it has a full grocery section with butcher (such as it is) and produce. Electronics, personal care, clothing. The store wasn't dim and dark, the shelves looked well stocked and the checkout process was speedy. I was popping in because I needed *another* USB charging cable, having left the last one in a rental car in Kansas City. Found it, grabbed it, paid for it. Easy.

    A Walmart store receipt.

Ridiculous lines at the checkout. Both of the so-called speedy checkout lines are closed. WTH?

The carts at this store are HORRIBLE!!! It takes many tries to find one that doesn't have a bad wheel that makes loud noise during your shopping. You'd think that the employees would see them set aside, test them, and pull them out of service. The restroom is always disgusting. The deli...don't even bother. You'll stand there for ages waiting for your number to be called or your kiosk order to be completed. They're understaffed but the staff is nice.

I have noticed with the last couple of months, the shelves in the store have not been well stocked. I have been told it is the night crew. Whatever- it is not the Giant that it was when it opened. Different story for the pharmacy. That pharmacy is the BEST. It has always been good but since the new Pharmacy Manager, Andrew, took over it has sky rockted. Knowledgeable, pleasant, caring and with a smile. They seem well stocked looking at their shelves. They also give all shots. If you need one, consider Giant, 721 W. These happen to be my favorite times, as I love cooking and I love making things authentic and as legitimate as possible when I can. Over the past year, I have made it my personal achievement to become proficient in making tamales. Over the last eight months I have learned to perfect multiple different tamales, but I cannot call myself a master, as I have not put in the time of a true master. This is what led me to La Mexicana. A search for proper ingredients beyond just the simple masa and lard. I am always looking for fresh peppers when it's out of season that I cannot grow and dry myself. As well as other things to toy with my base tamale recipe to try and create new and amazing things that may have not been done before. I am happy to say LA Mexicana has everything one needs and more to make any Latin meal and also has incredible people working there. The shop looks small from the outside but runs deep with a wonderful vibe and classic decoration and bright color. They have a deli towards the side and rear and even have the wonderful pastry cabinet that I hope to find in every carniceria. If you are in the area, this is one of the best and your best bet for great produce and all the best products you will not find anywhere else.

If you ever…read moreare curious about trying Spanish-inspired dishes or at the very least want to see what you can get in a store like La Mexicana check it out! I have gone here as of today almost a handful of times and I get more interested in food culture and how food is cooked in Mexican and other ways. There is a surprising amount of food in such a small shop including as the front sign states a deli. They also have canned foods bagged foods like beans and blue flour corn and a section of refrigerated drinks that I only scratched the surface with purchasing. If you are wanting to support a rare business in the delco area or want to make something that is hard to find ingredients for in this part of North America, this place is for you so check it out! I do think you will love it.
