This is for Giant Catering at this location. I had a party out in Springfield and ordered a fruit tray, a vegetable tray, and a tray of mac and cheese. All of it was great. I was SO blown away by the size of the fruit and veggie trays, and especially the quality. I always cut and pick all of the produce myself for parties, but was pressed for time and decided to order. I will do this every time. So much easier. The mango, blueberries, cantaloupe, tomatoes, all of it so fresh. It will never be worth it for me to do it myself again. I stopped in the beer and wine section of the store with my girlfriend to grab some six packs on the way home. What should have been an easy interaction while purchasing the six packs turned into the worst customer service I can recall throughout my life. The cashier Jason spoke to us horribly and was very rude throughout the entire interaction. I tried to lighten his bad mood and he continued to be very rude to us for no apparent reason. Maybe the guy was just having a bad day but he should not be in a customer service environment. They should keep this guy in a different area of the store where he doesn't have to interact with customers. I will not be returning to this location again. read more

This location is a joke--shelves are not stocked, when employees do stock the shelves it's usually during peak shopping times and they block the aisles, the employees move at glacial speeds with a zombified affect, and carts are rarely available near the store which means making an extra trip back to the parking lot corral. Since I expect all of this, I keep this in mind when shopping there and keep my trips at a minimum. I do appreciate the convenience of this store and with some tweaking from management it could be a more pleasant shopping experience. read more

I had ordered a small fruit tray 1-1.5 weeks ago at a specific time since they don't always have this size to pickup. Unfortunately, some workers (possibly third party ones as it looked like handymen type employees were around) had knocked over the original tray. I ended up waiting 20-30 minutes and they decided to comp me fully! I thought I was going to get like a 10% discount. The staff here is really nice every time I have had to interact with them. The store always seems clean to me. I saw a complaint or two with the salad bar and they have taken away the salad bar. While I miss it, I also hardly use it and maybe they lost more money from it than they made. read more

Shopped there yesterday evening at 7pm. They're open until 10pm. All registers closed, only self checkout available. A full shopping cart needs to fit on that little plateau that weighs your products after scanning. That never works obviously. This supermarket is expensive, service is below average and the supervisor for self checkout needs to learn some manners. What a joke this supermarket. We're gonna shop somewhere else now. This is the brand new Giant in the footprint of the previous but now defunct Genuardis. This formerly upscale grocery chain was bought by Safeway and from day one, it started being treated as a red-headed stepchild, losing clients by the bucketful and eventfully being considered a liability. Fifteen of the old Genuardis stores became property of Giant, while ten other stores will close down or be absorbed by other chains. Sad to see this previously imposing family chain go defunct after 90 years but Giant has done a wonderful service to the communities it serves by maintaining the employment of the staff, sprucing up the stores, and generally elevating the level of service and quality after a visible quality control decay under Safeway. The new Giant in Springfield has maintained roughly the same layout, but the produce section has visibly improved. Gone are the almost soggy veggies and the expired lettuce. And noticeably, the seafood selections have expanded as well as the deli and breads. The formerly demoralized staff seems to be now cheerful and happy after retraining in the Giant business models. Let's see if it continues and institutionalizes on its improvements. read more

I shop at the store every two weeks when I visit my mother in Philadelphia. Today there was a lady with two little dogs in the cart as she shopped. I later saw her walking around with the two dogs, as she shopped with her companions. I am praying that the cart that the dogs were in were disinfected before another person use that cart. My mom is a senior citizen and I cannot risk her getting sick and I cannot imagine that dogs in a car with food also put in carts is a safe thing. read more

Giant - for me - is my go-to for non organic food and select household goods. I usually like Whole Paycheck (aka Whole Foods) and Trader Joes - but for low cost staples - I gotta trust Giant. The salad bar is awful. Going in on the way home which is between 5:30 and 6, it's dinner time. I have found many times, twice this week. The first time I went in this week, the containers were down to two smaller ones. Under the containers were all kinds of dirt. The counter around the items was filthy none of it was wiped. I called a worker over and she contact the night manager. I spoke with him on the phone and he said it would be taken care of. Went in last night and it was the same thing. The whole counter needed to be wiped. Some of the containers, cucumber, salad, were empty. This is dinner time. They claim it is the produce dept. that is taking care of this. They are never around to check this. Afraid to eat anything at this salad bar. Done with this one. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I am a couponer because I need to save money and today I was absolutely humiliated because of the amount of coupons I had. My total dropped from $70 to $10 from coupons and the person running the checkout preventing me from checking out until the manager came because she thought I rigged the system somehow...it's called saving money lady! She also would not double my coupons or even honor some coupons that I got the proper item for....I left paying $5 more than I should have and being told "I used to many coupons". Staff and managers are unprofessional and don't even know their own coupon policy. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. read more

I shop here at least 3-4 times monthly. This Giant has a decent selection and seems to always be well stocked with the fresh items I typically buy. I feel as though the prices of most items are fair and they run good sale prices in the weekly ad. The store always seems clean. My only complaint is that sometimes when I shop (usually in the evening), they only have one or two lanes open. I shop at this Giant late at night when it is the only option available. The service is horrible,especially at the deli.They are supposed to be open to 10pm and if you go in at 9 or 930 before they close they give you such an attitude like how dare i order something. They are reluctant to help you. Also,check your receipt because i have been charged wrong many times for things that are on sale.They make up excuses and then you have to go to customer service to get your money back.
