This is a hidden gem! I tried to get a smog done at another local shop and when they couldn't take my car for the second time I jumped on Yelp to find someone who could get my car. These guys were great. I have a Porsche Boxster and this was the year that I needed a smog check. I called the guys I usually go to and they don't do Porsche boxsters. Because of the mid engine. I found out most places don't do my car So I called my trusted auto mechanic, and he referred us to Walnut Creek smog. They are experienced with a mid engine they handled it. There was an extra price, of course because there's a lot more work apparently, but it was not unreasonable. It was fairly priced. They did a good job and they did it quickly. Contacted Walnut Creek Smog when another nearby Smog provider could not get my car to communicate with the State smog system. Discussed several possible issues that might cause this issue with Walnut Creek smog. Made an appointment, went in and car had no problem at all with communication with State system. The shop itself is difficult to find. It's not right off the street. You have to pull into a dealer lot and go down a narrow downhill driveway with not a lot of clearance between vehicles once you enter the lot. I've used Andy twice and I had a pretty good experience the first time but not on the second. Andy is very friendly and has good people skills which made me feel comfortable initially after arriving. After hooking up my vehicle to the machine and leaving it idling, he literally hoped in a car parked in front of the shop and drove off. I did think it was a little unprofessional of him to leave my vehicle running on the machine (unattended) while he either went to go test drive a car or ran an errand. 10 minutes later one of his friends or his employees showed up. I couldn't tell because they don't wear uniforms, but that person didn't go anywhere near my vehicle. Andy showed up 20 minutes after he left, and completed the smog check and printed out my certificate. I never got a quote from him before bringing in the vehicle because my wife set up the apointment, but I was surprised to find out that my grand total was pretty much $80 out the door. I thought it was a little high for a smog check (passenger vehicle), especially considering that Andy wasn't even present for it. I needed a smog check this week and I asked Andy for a quote and his price is $69.95 plus an $8 certificate fee which makes him the most expensive option in the area by at least $10. I ended up booking elsewhere. I saved $20 and the appointment only took 10 minutes because the technician didn't leave during the test. I did offer to give Andy some feedback about having the highest prices in town, but he made an excuse about how he pays his employees top dollar even though I've never dealt with anybody except for Andy. And I totally understand if you pay your employees top dollar but you have to offer value to your customers and leaving their cars unattended while you go do something else is not it. read more

It is absolutely no surprise that I had an experience similar to many others on this page. What I found to be exceptional about this experience was working with Andy and his team. I brought my Honda in for smog repairs. The shop was clear on the costs, the cost was very reasonable, they got back to me soon after taking my car in, they gave me options of what to do next. They were clear, honest, and easy to work with. I'm planning on selling my car and my other car is electric so I won't have to take it in and I'm surprised to be a little bummed about not having a reason to come back here.
