He was able to verify my prius catalytic converter even with the special designed cat shield installed on the car, without putting it on the lift. He had his knee pads and just looked under the car. note for others: if you have a shield and it covers the cat info, then he might need to put it on the lift and charge more. Would be nice to have a coupon here and there, or something for repeat customers, but in the end the process was easy and quick for $50. read more

I was very impressed with the fast service here. Despite no appointment there was nobody waiting and I was in and out in less than 15 minutes, the actual test was less than 10 minutes. Such a complete difference between SmogNdash and the one I went to the previous time - Walnut Creek smog: When I went there I had to make an appointment and it still took over a half hour and they spent lots of extra time running my engine for no reason at all and trying to find something that needed fixing but there wasn't. Fortunately just down the street at 2040 North main, up the industrial driveway behind Kevin's noodles house, you will find smogNdash, where for cars made after the year 2000 it is just a quick visual inspection, no BS like I dealt with at Walnut Creek smog where he unnecessarily ran the engine for over 15 minutes trying to work on multiple cars at the same time instead of just having me in and out. Not here, they focus on one car at a time and don't try to create extra work that you don't need. Never again. I called to make an appt for last week. I was quoted a price but told them I have one of their MANY coupons. They said they are not honoring coupons due to Covid. Fine, whatever, what else is new with smog places... I scheduled it anyway. I got to their location which is tight with limited parking. I was early but still had to wait well into my appt time. The tech spent 20 minutes doing the actual smog with some kind of remote unit walking back and forth to the garage unit multiple times. 20 minutes for an OBD smog is ridiculous! I came in fine but left with a check engine light on and a failed smog. I just took it to another smog place I've used in the past and its was ~5 minutes with no issues and a PASS. At the very least this place needs to take 'Dash' out of its name and stop publishing coupons. 2 stars instead of 1 because the check engine light could have been a random coincidence but it hadn't come on before or since. read more

A consistent exercise regimen is proper temple maintenance, a biweekly pedicure is adequate phalange maintenance and a smog certification every two years is necessary vehicle maintenance. When I realized it was smog cert time, I wanted to make sure that I found a quick and inexpensive spot to get my precious bambina tested. As always, I turned to the infinite wisdom and degrading humor of Yelp for my intel and investigative research and was not disappointed. Smog 'N Dash was conveniently located, pretty darn cheap and single-handedly manned by a friendly, sweet chap named James who took care of my babe in no time. I stopped by on my lunch break and was in and out within ten to fifteen minutes. You have to enter through the Kevin's Noodle House driveway (to the left of the Noodle House) and meander up, up, and up just a little bit further past a few auto shops. Luckily, the Smog 'N Dash signage and "SMOG TEST HERE!" banners make the navigation effortless. Put your car, heart, cash-money-dollars and smog certification in the hands of a guy who truly values your business and shows his integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction from start to (ten minute!) finish. Our old car initially didn't pass its test, we knew something was up because it was running funny but SmogNdash's diagnostics confirmed it. Turned out to be a coil that needed to be replaced. Once the coil was replaced, the car ran much better and these guys were super helpful about retesting, getting the results to the DMV and getting us on our way. Note that they were a little hard to find at first; when you look for them, turn at the Jet Black driveway (by the Pho restaurant), go up the hill and to the left. read more
