The staff at VIP Smog were friendly and helpful when I visited their center for the two smog tests needed for my two cars. They took me in as a walk-in and finished my smogs when they had moments between their existing auto repair jobs. I put down my work laptop in their waiting room when I went to pay, and walked out of there oblivious of leaving the computer behind. An hour later, Adel tried repeatedly to get me live on the phone. When I finally had a break to answer, I learned about the computer! I was soooooo relieved!! He stayed open 1.5 hours after the shop closed in order to make sure I could get my laptop back that night!! That is great service. I offered to thank him financially but he refused. They not only managed to squeeze me in on the same day, but the quality was excellent. I can't complain for the price and the fee. BEWARE of ADEL! I was told they would fix something, kept having me bring my vehicle back. Each time was for a week. The end result, did not repair, sold unnecessary parts. Each time I took the vehicle back they never gave me a work order to hide the fact they had the vehicle. I called the California Automotive Bureau. They inspected and found in my favor. The owner wanted the part he put on (unnecessarily) back after you paid for it! Can you believe that, even after being busted. I think they like to mess with single females. Zero respect, fake friendly and scammers. If they have your vehicle too long, drive by to take pictures, keep your call logs, save paperwork. Make sure they give you a work order indicating why your returning and specifically breakdown the labor for each repair. Be sure to Read the work order and ask for your parts back after having them work on your car. I paid for an oil change and after all the other drama, I discovered they didn't end change my oil. In fact I think they drained it. I was down to two quarts. He told me I only had two when he changed it... My car does not burn oil nor does it leak. I had to take it elsewhere to change my oil. I use Mobil 1, so it's not exactly cheap. Adel was the person helping me. There are a few other issues, I feel they sabotage your vehicle so you will have to get work done. read more

3 stars for getting the intended job done. Went in with a car that was misfiring, presumably from carbon buildup, got a car back that stopped misfiring, presumably from the carbon buildup getting cleaned out. Honestly, this was a lifesaver so despite the problem below, this still gets 3 stars. The last two stars are missing because we got the car back with a massive coolant leak that didn't exist when we gave them the car. We brought it back to them and they couldn't figure out where the leak was (and they were too busy to do any real work on the car) so we ended up towing it home and taking it apart ourselves. Turns out whoever did the sealing with the gasket maker on the intake manifold gasket used so much gasket maker all over the intake manifold gasket that they ended up completely sealing the holes for the coolant...so surprise surprise, coolant going everywhere it wasn't supposed to go (including into the engine. The engine oil looked like milk tea). Fortunately, we were able to catch and fix this before any seriously permanent and expensive damage was made but.... read more

This place is very friendly, fast and accommodating. They started an easy OBD smog about 30 minutes before close. Took a bit to start, but they were done in 15 minutes or less. Price was fair, I appreciated them fitting us in. The problem I have is that their place is extremely small and cramped. Shouldn't have been a big deal for us, as we drive a very small Honda Fit, with a camera. Because of this, they very badly curbed our brand new wheels, and either didn't know (not very likely or believable) or chose to not tell us and figured we might not notice. The rash is extremely noticeable since they're black wheels, and there's a ton of silver showing where it went to bare metal, and there's a spot of red fire lane paint on it as well. I know it happened here for a fact because I'm very careful parking, I have a side view camera AND a backup camera, and I've never parked on a fire lane in my entire life. Pretty upset, won't be back obviously, and would not recommend if you have a car you actually care about. read more

This place is a HUGE joke. I went three times to get my smog done and kept being told different things each time. The guy who runs the place is shady. He told me to come back in ten days and he would pass my smog knowing I had a repair that needed to be done and I directly asked him about it and he said don't worry he would pass me anyway. All they do is keep your car in the back for an hour or more, and do nothing and string you along for weeks with lies. I do not trust this place. If i needed a repair why not tell me/confirm so I can get it done and how about quote me for repair cost since you're a shop as well. Biggest waste of my time. I wish I had discovered this place sooner. My family has used this place for years but I've been going to a dealership near work because it was convenient. Saw their Yelp discount for a smog and saw positive recommendations on the Nextdoor app, so I took my car there yesterday. While there, Jack and Dell took the time to patiently teach me things about my car even though it was late and they were obviously very busy. Jack has a hilariously entertaining personality and you can tell he loves his job and cares about his customers. I recently had a lot of work done at a dealership and found out that I could have saved over half by going to VIP plus they have a guarantee on their work. Will definitely be using them for car services from now on. Don't be put off if they appear to be busy. They're busy because they charge a fair price, are trustworthy, and have a lot of customers. Phones kept ringing while I was there and they answered all of them. My car was also pulled up to the front, when it was done, making it easy for me to leave. So I got there at 3:00pm walked in the door after parking around the block. I was not greeted at all the owner old man was just chit chatting with his long lost brother or something. Then he left and the phone rings and he answers it and literally talks to this person ( friend ) i assume. And walks away. Finally he comes back and says high. This was 10 minutes after my arrival. Times, they are a-changin'. In all likelihood, if car issues arise again, I'd be more inclined to take it back to Jack and his associates than say, the VW dealership. However, since bringing my car for various services no less than 4 times since last November, the service has been erratic. My last visit in June confirmed that, sadly, something is going on and things just aren't what they used to be. While a series of lingering car issues were finally resolved, I left VIP Smog feeling disappointed. Now, this place is all about the non-responsiveness. My parents own a small business, so I can understand when things happen. Except things ALWAYS seem to happen at VIP Smog now. I've had my calls answered by Steve at the front office, promised that I'd be given an update within "a few hours" or by the end of day. No updates, not a scintilla of information on when I'd be getting my car back, what was being fixed, if anything was being fixed. This time around, I didn't need my car for the 10 or so days it was being kept. But if I did, I'd be pretty damn annoyed. I'm a straight shooter. If you don't have time to get to my car, tell me. It's okay. But to dismiss phone calls and reasonable questions? Not okay. It's not me, it's you. I'd still bring my car here, but my patience isn't just wearing thin, it's worn out. I brought my car for smog testing and it failed on the first try (the car's inner computer was unable to generate a reading). Adel was extremely patient with me and explained what I needed to do to get the car to register. I did the driving as prescribed and brought the car back (without an appointment) a week later.
