It pains me to say this because we've gotten such good help here in the past, especially during optical emergencies, but my last experience is so frustrating that I'm looking for someone new. After multiple visits, I still can't see decently through my latest pair of glasses. They've remade the lenses once, they've rechecked my prescription, they say everything is right but after weeks of trying to break in the new ones, I still see better through the old. And it wasn't cheap. I paid $700+ for glasses and frames only to still not be able to see. I really appreciate what they've done in the past for us, but I need to be able to see. Four stars for past experiences. I really, really wish they were able to solve this. read more

I am new to the area and was looking for a new optometrist and this place was such a mess I definitely won't be back. The receptionist brings her toddler to work and doesn't supervise him, and he ended up slamming the exam room door open 3 (!) times during my eye exam. It was extremely distracting and slightly violating to have a small child run into the private exam room yelling over and over and they offered no apology. Dr. Shem was generally apathetic and not friendly. I get the sense she doesn't enjoy working with adults. The prescription she gave me was an entire 2 points different compared to the last one I got (the same one I've been getting my whole life), so I also question her accuracy. After arguing with the nurse just to give me a record of my prescription at the end of the appointment, they said they would order my contact lense trials in and give me a call. This review is long overdue but I believe that good service deserves attention and if this review helps your family, my goal is met. We started as patient of Dr. Tassanari and later Dr. Wendy (Yeh) Shem took over. For context, at age 6 our child was experiencing some visual processing challenges that were impacting academic performance. The school district took a "wait to fail" approach, so we knew it was up to us to advocate for our child. We knew she was bright and with accommodations would likely thrive. Both Dr.'s were excellent! Dr. Shem took over as our family Optometrist and played a critical role in evaluating and treating my youngest child for vision therapy. Their vision therapists were excellent, patient, and built good rapport with our child so she didn't feel like therapy was a drag, in fact actually looked forward to the 1:1 sessions. Dr. Shem was also instrumental in making recommendations that were put into our child's 504 Plan to get school-based accommodations- that's all she needed because it took her a bit longer to read and process visual information. Her teacher confidentially shared that she didn't think we would have been able to secure the supports and services from the school district without Dr. Shem's advocacy and expertise. Fast forward to this year. Now our child is a 10th grader and taking Honors/AP classes and doing well in school, but still benefits from accommodations. She no longer receives ongoing Vision therapy but Dr. Shem's advocacy again played a critical role in securing testing accommodation for AP and SAT exams this year. We felt blindsided when our child was initially not approved for testing accommodations even though she has a 504 Plan that allows for extra time during tests. We wrongly assumed that College Board would honor this well established accommodation, but having a 504 Plan from the district wasn't enough for them. Again it was time to advocate on our child's behalf. Because of their strict timelines, Dr. Shem squeezed us in and evaluated our child when most other establishments were still closed due to the Altadena fires. She worked over the weekend to get the report to us in time to meet CB's deadline. Dr. Shem reevaluated and wrote a comprehensive report outlining recommendations including testing accommodation. Again, I have no doubt that Dr. Shem's solid report is what helped our child secure College Board (CB) testing accommodation. As a parent I hope you never have to deal with College Board, but if you do, you want Dr. Shem as a partner in advocating for your child. We are beyond grateful for Dr. Shem's dedication and going above and beyond to help us make a compelling case for our child. It was hard and we are grateful for her partnership. The office staff is also helpful and getting appointments in a reasonable time is a plus. Dr. Shem is also a parent and very approachable. I appreciate that she is knowledgeable but also keeps it real, makes her patients feel comfortable, no stuffy Dr. Vibe here! She has excellent patient rapport, good humor, is understanding, and is straight forward and honest. Good frames selection but if you don't find what you want she just gives you your written prescription, no sales pitch pressure to buy glasses if you don't find a pair you love. Hope this review is helpful to families, especially those navigating vision therapy. First and foremost do your research, it's not for everyone, but if you need a reputable doctor with this specialty, I feel blessed we have Dr. Shem providing this type of treatment in our San Gabriel Valley area. Savannah Gutierrez provides outstanding customer service! Kristen Phifer O.D. is an outstanding eye doctor and so kind as well. Since most of us were affected by the LA Wildfires, with soot and ash in the air, Dr. Kristen recommended a lubricating eye drop that she gave me a small sample of, that I can buy over the counter. KUDOS, to Dr. Wendy for having compassion for the Alta Dena Wildfire evacuees who if they lost their glasses in the fire, worked with their insurance, and in some cases gave them a free eye exam, with proof of evacuation. She really cares about the community and loves FUNKO POPS! Her staff is kind and compassionate! My only note of improvement is the young girl that lets you try on the glasses at the end of the appointment could spend a little more time, if a person has questions. I came at a time when no appointment was immediately behind me and felt rushed at the end. But the eye exam Dr. Kristen answered all my questions pertaining to my eyes and the advancement of optometry. HOT TIP: They close early on Fridays at 2pm and take an 11:30 to 12 noon lunch. (So they close the office). I don't think it's right that they force patients to pay for an "optional" retinal photo exam, when they can just dilate the eyes if disease is what they are supposedly looking for. It's not mandatory to have these type of exams in CA, but according to the staff and the Dr, "it's mandatory for them". Shady practice just to get money out of the clients. Called other practices around and they 1. didn't coerce anyone to have that "optional" exam, and 2. charge $15 for the exam (if doctor recommends it or the patient elects not to dilate eyes), which this facility charges $39 for. It's the principal of the matter, nothing else. Staff is nice enough, it's not their fault. read more

I don't even know where to begin with this office. I mean its not Doctor's fault, when the office staff are not good, but it still reflects on her. So my daughter is a patient of her and she is 3 years old. This office totally doesn't have ability to deal with kids who are scared of doctors ( which is majority of kids). The staff is always with attitude, rolling their eyes when question asked. Staff needs to be more compassionate while working with kids and not straight forward and quick to scare them. I don't want to go into details to not waist time, but I can say only this office needs lots of improvement. If you're an adult and can speak for yourself, you might have different experience but for parents who take their children here I would not recommend. read more

I have been coming to this office since it was run by Dr. Eastland (many years ago). The doctors have ALWAYS been great (Eastland, Tassinari, Yeh). My daughter goes here, too. The front office USED to be great - friendly, competent, and efficient. Lately, they seem to make errors in terms of not including everything in your prescription order as requested (my daughter wanted transition lenses in her most recent pair and we discovered she DIDN'T get that). Sometimes they make math errors, also, in terms of how much you owe for your exam & glasses. And their front desk demeanor seems forced. I used to work in front offices so I have a high expectation of that. read more

I visited Dr.Yeh's office for my annual eye exam. The administrative staff was personable and warm when I walked in. I was given an overview of my appointment and new patient documentation that I needed to complete before meeting with Dr. Phifer. The pre-testing process was quick and easy. I did the retna exam which gave these amazing photos of the inside of my eyes. I shared with Dr.Phifer that the last time I got an eye-exam was pre-pandemic ( early 2020) and some of the challenges I had before had worsened. My meeting with Dr.Phifer was amazing. She is warm, personable, attentive, active listened to me describe my experiences ( during each test and symptoms) and thoroughly explains each step of the more in-depth testing processes. Alrighty, so I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews directed at Wendy. Quite frankly I had nothing but a good experience with her! She is someone that will be honest and upfront about your eye sight and will help you find different avenues to improve your eyesight if needed. Her humor is a little bit more professional than Dr. T's, but that's totally okay; we're all different. I loved the new technology that's been brought in to the office: taking pictures of the back of your eyes, new dilator eye drops (these ones are WAY stronger!) and I noticed they got some new brands for the eyeglass frames. All in all, a wonderful experience. The ONLY thing I have to say for Dr. Wendy is that perhaps next time just let the patient know ahead of time that you want to have them take the dilating eye drops. I was very fortunate to have my car not running that day and as a result needed someone to drop me off and pick me up. Otherwise there was no way I would have been able to drive for at least a few hours, which is I little scary to think about! read more

Dr. Tassinari himself is knowledgeable and professional and he will always take the time to explain things to you if you ask. His staff over the years has always been friendly, efficient, and caring. I'm no expert in the field of optometry but I have observed a history of continual equipment upgrades. I'm guessing they keep well abreast of current trends and technology. If you buy your glasses or contacts from him then yes, they will be more expensive than other places. But you are getting a human touch and extra care that you don't get at big discount places. If price is really an object for you, you can always request a copy of your prescription and take your purchase elsewhere. read more

Dr Tassinari and Dr Wendy Shem are brilliant and two of the kindest doctors I have ever known. Being a mother of a special needs daughter, I have visited many doctors over the years and these two rank at very very top. Not only they're completely competent and knowledgeable in their field, more importantly they completely get involved and care for my often uncooperative daughter. I would give these folks and the staff in the office a million stars if I could for the number of times they have helped me with my daughter's eye issued but I'm limited to 5 stars. This place is truly awful and I will be contacting the American Board of Optometry about Dr. Judy Coa. I saw Dr. Coa 3 times to get 1 prescription right and paid +$300 because they wouldn't refund me THEIR mistake. On the 1st visit Judy kept recommending responses from me during my test "1 or 2? 2 is better right?" Which completely messed up my results and I told her when trying on the contacts that they didn't seem clear but she said it was bc I hadn't worn contacts in about a year. I wore them for the 5 day trial and went back in saying they weren't right. She DIDN'T retest me, she held up a few lenses in front of my eyes w contacts in and gave me a new trial. I told her the new ones didn't seem correct either but she said that my brain would adjust over time and since they were a different brand I had to get used to them. A week past and I was ready to give up, I just said to order the contacts, but after trying on the 1st of the purchased box I realized that I shouldn't settle for a shitty doctor. I called and was told I could return the old boxes, even after I told them I had open the box. So I went back and got retested, refusing to let her suggested answers affect me. She said she thought from the beginning that I needed this prescription but that having a more intense prescription can be bad for your eyes and she wanted to make my eyes work harder rather than give me it. WTF?!?! Instantly the stronger prescription is better and after a week I order the new box and go in for it a few weeks later. When I buy them I'm told that bc my boxes were open, I couldn't get ANY refund and I would need to pay 100% out of pocket for the new box. They gave me a 10% discount and $20 off of the new box for THEIR MISTAKE!!! $100 on top of my previous $200 purchase because I (not them) noticed that 1 of my old boxes was the same strength as 1 of the new ones; their attention to detail is horrible. This experience has been so stressful and ongoing that I've taken 1/2 days at work, moved my schedule around, all for a doctor who doesn't know what the hell she is doing and takes no responsibility for it. I will not be going there ever again and I will be looking into making a complaint with the American Board of Optometry. Unfortunately all the people on the office are incredibly nice, too bad their working for a quack. read more

I used to have a 5 star rating for Dr. Tassinari and his office. Unfortunately, Dr. Tassinari sold his practice. I wish him very well in his endeavors, but I miss him!! The last time I went into this office, I saw Dr. Yeh. Dr. Yeh told me I was showing signs of early onset presbyopia and that I needed reading glasses. I don't have any problems reading so I sought a second opinion by another Optometrist in the area who confirmed that I don't need reading glasses at all. Even though I saw Dr. Yeh about a month ago, in the last three days I received both a text message and an email telling me that it was time to come in for my annual check up with their office. Dr. Tassinari is the kindest and most skilled optometrist I've ever met. He is friendly and very professional, and maintains a beautifully kept office. His staff are caring and warm, and are very good with keeping the schedule on track. They sell frames at the office, too, which is super convenient so I don't have to run around to a million stores trying to find glasses that I like at prices that I can afford. Dr. T also does vision therapy. There is a cork board at the doorway when you walk into the office filled up with drawings and letters from happy (and young!) patients that thank him for helping them see better. It's clear that Dr. Tassinari really cares for his patients and genuinely wants to help them see. Prices are reasonable, office is clean, staff is awesome, and there is plenty of parking in their private lot. What more could you ask for? :) read more

Honestly I was apprehensive about coming to a doctor visit during covid but they explained everything they were doing, had me fill out questionnaires about covid, and had safety protocols that made me feel safe. And I got a great new prescription for contacts that I can see much better with than any I've had in years. Office staff was perfectly great, so I don't understand the negative comments. Incompetent at best. Aside from the high markups on all their frames, they are not responsive. They never follow up like they promise. You must keep calling to follow up yourself. It took 5 weeks to get the glasses, and couldn't even make adjustments when picked up I had to return. Dr. Wendy is alright but she can only be as good as her front desk staff. What a great optometrists practice. I saw Dr. Cao for an eye exam this morning. They were very accommodating in scheduling my appointment and so very professional. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Dr Cao was very patient and explained everything in detail. Made me feel very at ease. I picked out a very cute pair of Tom Ford glasses. I've been wearing glasses and contacts for over 21 years and this by far was the best experience I've had! I've now seen both Dr. Yeh and Dr. Cao and would highly recommend them both!! Dr. Tassinari, You were a god send for Austin 10 years ago.The staff are super friendly and caring. After taking my son every where including children's hospital, this is where things changed for us and Austin's vision got better. Had it not been for you my son may have been completely blind. Today he is only blind in one eye and the other is correctable with lens. Dr. Tassinari was diligent with his eye patch therapy and told me what to expect. My son was bumping in walls and none the less couldn't ride a bike. We got his eye strong enough that my son finally rode his bike with his eye patch on!Today my son is a healthy 14 year old that can see, read, and write. I have been a patient at this practice through 3 ophthalmologists. I now see Dr. Yeh. She is excellent as is her entire team. Last year Dr. Yeh recommended occupational computer glasses. I am a writer and spend 8-15 hours a day in front of a computer monitor. The computer glasses have made a major difference for me. I no longer experience eyestrain after a long day's work. read more

My family have been patients here for 25+ years, from Dr. Eastland through Dr. Tassinari and now to Drs Yeh and Cao. We were always treated like family, receptionists knew us by name, and coming here was a special experience. Boy how things have changed. The doctors are still top notch, but the new office staff are the literal worst. From being rude and dismissive to unhelpful to immature to nonresponsive, I'm extremely sad to see how far this office has fallen in terms of customer service. My husband received an appt card in the mail that was so sloppily written, with cross outs and do-overs, that he couldn't truly tell when his appt was. It looked like it was for today at 9am. We had to stare at it for ten minutes to know. He showed up today and was told he didn't have an appt today. They didn't have any appt in the system for him WTHeck?? They refused to see him today. He called when he got home and asked to speak to one of the doctors. His number was taken and as of now, end of business day, no one has called. It's so sad to see these new, terribly inconsiderate and sloppy office staff run off long standing customers who loved and revered Drs Eastland and Tassinari. I'm sure there is an eye doctor closer to home who understands the value of truly caring for customers. read more
