So, my husband and I came here for our anniversary, and the owner met us outside and walked us to our cozy room! It was super cute. My only complaint is that we paid an extra $50 for the jewel room and the tub couldn't be used, due to the plug not working. Staff is super friendly, and the breakfast is phenomenal

I love this place. The cost is just a little bit more than some of the area hotel/motels but the experience is more than worth it. After a little confusion over where to park, I found my way to the front door and was warmly welcomed by the staff. I must have arrived at just the right time because the smell of freshly baked goodies was intoxicating. I stayed in the McCann room which felt like a suite. It was spacious and comfortable - filled with unique touches. WiFi service is easy to access and very quick. Surf the Internet surrounded by 19th century furnishings! Breakfast was fantastic. I'd arranged an 8:00 service and was (as usual) running late. I sat down at 8:10 and was immediately presented with a beautiful plate of food. I'm not normally a breakfast person but I made an exception @ The Walnut and was glad I did. minimal complaints: I could have used a full sized ironing board. The shower seemed a little cramped with the old-time narrow bathtub.. That's all. On my next trip to Springfield, I will definitely be staying at The Walnut Street Inn.

This was my first time staying at a B&B and I can't be happier! The staff was very friendly, the breakfast was amazing and it's close to both MSU and downtown. I would definitely want to go back and stay there again next time I go to Springfield. Lisa and Gary were just perfect in every way!

Heck, she even had Brad Pitt's dad help with wallpapering! The place, obviously, is not a chain hotel and if you are expecting things to be like a chain hotel, you might not be happy here. But if you are reading the reviews you probably already know this. We stayed on a Friday night, so we were there for the weekend breakfast, which I enjoyed. We had not heard ANY sounds from other guests at any point during the night, so were surprised that other people were there at breakfast. A guest at the other table said to us that he was surprised to see anyone else was here as they had not heard us either! It turns out that their room was very close to ours; and there were guests in other rooms as well! Wish all hotels were that quiet! Because of the historic nature of the building, it seems it might be inaccessible to people with mobility issues. Our room (the Chapel suite) was pink and frilly and not really my style of decor - but it's not like I'm moving in! It was definitely a change from usual hotel decor, which is never to my style either! It's a pretty large place and is not as cozy as a small B&B. But it's very reasonably priced compared to those. Beds were quite comfortable, more so than most hotels in my experience. We had reserved 2 nights, but had to cut our vacation short due to weather predictions on the route home. They were completely understanding and didn't charge us for the cancellation of the next night. Will definitely stay here again!

I fully understood that this was only a request and not a guarantee. When I arrived, I was informed that the hotel was fully booked and that my room was not yet available. That part was completely understandable. What was disappointing was the way the information was communicated. The front desk staff (older lady) came across as dismissive and unwelcoming, making my family feel more like an inconvenience than a valued guest. Hospitality is about more than just having a room available, it's about how guests are treated when things don't go according to plan. A simple explanation, an estimated wait time, or even a friendly acknowledgment of the inconvenience would have made a significant difference. Instead, the interaction left a poor first impression and set a negative tone for the start of my stay. I hope management takes this feedback as an opportunity to reinforce the importance of customer service and guest experience. While operational challenges happen, courtesy and professionalism should always be part of the experience.

The next day, I had to extend my stay due to business reasons and was in my room, when my door opened. Good thing I had it latched and I was dressed. However, the door closed and a knock came and I answered. The gentleman said we were making sure you didn't need anything. I asked do you knock first. Apparently, the room I was in, and the entire block of rooms was not to be given out due to an event happening. However, if a door is closed, one should still knock. I called reception, they gave me another room as I extended my stay. Later that day, trying to connect my television and it says I'm not checked in. So, I contacted the front desk again and they say, the other young lady checked you out of your other room, but didn't check you into the room you're in. So that became another tiny irritation. And I felt like someone else could have possibly entered my room again due to this error. It seems as though, there needs to be a bit more communication between staff and retraining done in some areas. However, the room was very comfortable. The pool was enjoyable and the lamb chops were delicious!

I went to check in (a 30 minute process, like what) they charged me for a room I had already paid for. The front desk guy had to call his manager and figure it out - the money still hadn't been returned. We to our room and notice, it's not a pool view. We go back down and speak to a different desk clerk who got us a new room but said it was a $20 up charge. I reminded them my booking was already with a pool view ... front desk guy argued with me. Got my pool view room. Room isn't bad, but holy shit, the floors are absolutely disgusting. I would not bring a child who is currently crawling. A non mobile baby or a walking one only (all other ages are perfectly fine!). My crawling baby's feet, knees and hands were BLACK from being so dirty. The beds suck. The shower had ants. No blow dryer. Wifi was shit. All night we listened to some industrial alarm go off every 30 seconds making it very hard to sleep. The good stuff - two pools, both great! Splash pad is great too. The water is chilly but whatever. Breakfast was decent for an inclusion. Parking is great. There is a Starbucks in the atrium! We loved the plant life and the fountains.

They need to improve on training staff about communication , etiquette and grooming. I am someone who worked in hospitality for quite a while usually the observations and I'm also an avid traveller for over 25 years.. 1: when I checked in (I try to stay brand loyal) the girl was nice, but she did not recognize my status, never offered me my amenity points or something to drink and her attire was extremely unacceptable . Who wears a bandana around her head to work? She was nice at all, but wrong and unprofessional for not recognising someone's status and offering them what they're entitled to is unacceptable. 2: I requested a late check out both days. The first day, I got in at 5 AM from work and the maids were banging on my door, despite the do not disturb sign on the outside, at 10 AM , 11 Ish and again at 11:30 noon and even after I went to the front desk to prepay my next night they still were knocking on the door at 1 o'clock and 2 o'clock. If this is a language thing they need to learn to speak English or at least understand what the green sign means do not come in the door .. there's a do not disturb sign on for a reason. I understand inclusivity, but to go to another country & work and not speak their language, is flat out disrespectful. I wasn't able to catch up on sleep . 3: I arranged for a late check out the next day as well at 1 o'clock . At 10:45 AM and 11 there was other maids who knocked on my door. Another Maid banging on the door and opening it and waking me up. Shortly around noon, another maid and then she says that the front desk is not communicating with them 3: I get on the elevator to leave and then there's a Maid there with her speakerphone on talking to her boyfriend I could hear her whole business ( I decided to capture this on video) 4: the gentleman at the front desk claims that there is no miscommunication that they knew, and he then made the claim that the woman who is in charge of the housekeeping doesn't look at the log every morning, so she's not communicating it to them so something needs to be done about their housekeeping, staff for sure . Completely inexcusable he also made the excuse for the maid who didn't speak English and decided to open my door while I was barely dressed. I think his name was Nate , but he was overall really great at the front desk
