Plinton Curry Funeral Home - Our Westfield location

    Plinton Curry Funeral Home

I rarely write reviews, but my experience with Plinton Curry Funeral Home was deeply disappointing…read moreand upsetting that I felt compelled to share. I wouldn't recommend this funeral home based on my family's recent experience. It felt more like a business transaction than a place meant to handle a loved one's final arrangements with love. From the start, they were difficult to reach, reluctant to provide a price list, and overall, the process felt more like a money grab than a service rooted in care. Getting a clear, itemized price list. felt like pulling teeth, despite the FTC's Funeral Rule requiring funeral homes to provide it upon request it was a violation of basic transparency and consumer rights. When I questioned the $12,128 cremation quote with a $6,000 discount due to a family connection to my uncle. Every conversation seemed to circle back to cost, not compassion. Ron Curry set up a Zoom meeting with my family that was supposed to start at 4pm, we waited over 2 hours for him to join, and he never did. After reaching out several times we were told that he was with another family and rescheduled for 8pm.Even then he never joined the Zoom but via his cell phone, when asked if he was going to join the ZOOM he replied, "do you need to see me". They have two locations listed but when I requested the Westfield location I was told that location is only to prepare not for reviewing. Mr. Curry condescendingly called me "sweetheart" .....letting me know they are very expensive and cost more than other funeral homes in the Newark area (he did mention names, but I won't) that was completely unprofessional and disrespectful during such a vulnerable time. We were left with unanswered questions and some aspects--like how her body was presented--left us deeply disappointed. After sending several more pictures Ron did do some touch-ups to make my aunt look more like her pictures and we were pleased. Stephanie referred to my loved one as "the remains" before changing it to the body never by name, and never with the respect she deserved. It was upsetting and dehumanizing. The compassion I expected simply wasn't there. My aunt service was scheduled for May 14th, 2025, during the meeting I asked what day she would be cremated and could the family attend....I was informed by Stephanie to attend the cremation would cost $150 per person. I asked what's included with that price because I have attended a few cremation services and NEVER recall paying a fee to attend. Rahim was the only person who showed genuine kindness and professionalism he was the saving grace in an otherwise troubling experience. He went beyond the call of duty by offering to pick up or drop off things to make it easier for the family instead of traveling all the way to the Somerset office. My Aunt's service was May 14,2025 it wasn't until we called to inquired if she had been cremated just so happen, she was cremated on that day. Due to the office only being open from 9am -2pm Monday-Friday and only open on Saturdays if they have a service NOT 24 hours like they advertise I requested; they mail me my aunt's ashes. They used The United States Postal Service Grief is hard enough. Families shouldn't have to feel like they're being taken advantage of in the middle of it. Families deserve better during moments of grief. I sincerely hope this business reflects on how they treat people during such sensitive times. My aunt deserved dignity and respect, but instead, the process felt rushed and impersonal. RUN DON'T WALK!!!!!!

Plinton-Curry Funeral Home provided Stellar service for my Mommy COOL…read more My initial call to the main telephone number was received by someone who answered with respectful questions about how they could be of service. I told them we were in Florida and wanted to keep my Mommy with me forever. I was informed that it was not possible, but they definitely could bring my Mommy back from Florida without a problem. Low and behold, COOL was back in NJ in no time. Plinton-Curry made contact to a minimum but completed all tasks beyond exceptional: the care of the body, contract for arrangements, programs including an online link on the day of the services, a day before viewing, and Homegoing Service, and calls afterward to check in on our family and to see if we need anything, even way after the bill was satisfied. This review comes from Cheryl Skeete, which means the world. Please continue providing your 5-star service to all.

We met with Ryan several times and he was very clear in his communications, and very compassionate. The evening of the wake and the funeral morning were staffed by Mary and Laura and another Dooley associate, and they were all wonderful to us. They helped us disseminate some of the flowers, which was a worry for me. I really appreciated the care and concern. The renovations to Dooley Colonial are very beautiful. We loved having the lounge room to take a little break and have a snack. No one will take better care of you than Dooley!

Your kindness and total attention to detail was so appreciated by my 3 Siblings & I over this past weeked. Laura took care of everything perfectly and even had a spare Titleist Golf Ball we could have out of her own golf bag, when we all realized that we had brought a Calloway ball and our Dad, Paul Aloia, would never have golfed with that brand! Talk about "Customer Service"! Everything went Beautifully. The renovations they have done have really made the area so comfortable and enhance the feeling of being in your own home and your own kitchen, providing sandwiches & soft drinks to family and friends. Thank you from the Bottom of our Hearts for your special care of our Dad. We feel you now have a forever friend in the four of us!

Fairview Cemetery - Whitney Houston, Fairview Cemetery, Westfield

Fairview Cemetery & Arboretum is one of the most historic and picturesque places in Westfield…read more Established in 1868, it was created when the town's older church burial grounds were becoming crowded. It is both a cemetery and an accredited arboretum, with more than 100 identified tree species and self-guided tree tours. The grounds are known for their natural beauty, including wooded areas, a pond, and extensive landscaping. Fairview also serves as a historical record of modern Westfield. While many colonial-era residents are buried in Westfield's older Presbyterian Cemetery, many of the families who helped build the suburban town of Westfield are buried here. The pond, nicknamed "Ghost Pond," was still surrounded by woods when I was a kid in the 1960s. Back then, it was open to the public for ice skating. The scene in It's a Wonderful Life where George Bailey saves his brother Harry always reminds me of those childhood days skating on Ghost Pond. On my mother's side, my family lineage goes back to some of Westfield's earliest settlers. My parents and both sets of grandparents are buried here. In 2023, I worked with the cemetery office to arrange for my parents' burials in their family plot and to have a headstone made and installed. The staff was professional, compassionate, and easy to work with throughout the process. I grew up near Fairview and have been visiting since I was about ten years old. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and exceptionally well maintained. Fairview contains the graves of many of the families who shaped Westfield during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The cemetery includes a notable Civil War section, several historic monuments, and "Old One Horn," a Revolutionary War-era cannon displayed on the grounds. It is also the final resting place of several notable individuals, including Whitney Houston and Dr. Virginia Apgar, whose Apgar Score is still used worldwide to assess newborns. Whenever I return to the Westfield area, I make a point of stopping by to visit family members, friends, and the parents of friends who are buried here. It remains a beautiful and tranquil place that provides comfort while honoring the memories of loved ones.
