Sweat-showered machines that neither members nor staff clean. The walls are similarly covered. ‍

Like TVs ALWAYS tuned to Fox News and remotes hidden so you can't change the channel? ‍ Like people (a lot of them police) with far right slogans and symbols on their t-shirts never cleaning equipment after they sweat all over it? ‍ Like hearing loud, one-way cell phone conversations for the duration of your workout? ‍ Like staff who stare at you dead-eyed when you say "Hello" or "Have a nice day?" ‍ Like broken fans, sweltering temperatures, and lights that shut off while you're working out? ‍ Like attention-seeking men grunting while they slam weights on the ground and take pictures of themselves? ‍ Like these same men spitting in the water fountains? ‍ Like cramped, foul-smelling bathrooms with toilets that regularly overflow and empty soap dispensers? If so, this is the gym for you!

one of the "family rooms" there is no counter for the sink. Huge gap at edge of floor, base board is missing. Paint?

What are the membership fees like?

I messaged them and they said $40 (1 time) enrollment fee and then $40 a month.

So much for their stellar five-star reviews. Psh! Update: The fact that the owner was so quick to call my review 'petty' when he didn't return my calls for months goes to show the line he's ready to walk just for the sake of maintaining a false reputation on yelp. It also speaks volumes of how mindful he is of other's time. We all come from a different place in our respective lives Mr Owner and all I expected was an acknowledgement. P.S: Don't assume people are stupid enough to tell the different between a genuine apology and a snarky comment. I hope have a fabulous day!

I spoke with…read moreAngel on the phone to discuss my goals, recovering from a multi-year shoulder injury and getting back onto the path to powerlifting, and we set up an in-person consultation. The consultation was quick and thorough and we set up a plan of action to get me back in shape to lift heavy again. It took a while but trusting Angel and the other trainers here was the best thing I have ever done. I want to say it took about 8 months of recovery based training with the semi-private training group but I no longer have the chronic shoulder pain that I first walked in with. Since coming to Boston Underground Strength Training and going through the recovery training I have competed in three powerlifting meets and have been performing better than I could ever imagined thanks to the excellent programming and coaching provided here. Without Boston Underground I would never have been able to recover from my shoulder injury and probably would have had to give up on my favorite hobby. I wish I could rate this higher than 5/5. -Kyle Campofiore

Because…read moreour caloric intake upticked it was essential to find a gym for us to work off all those extra drinks and desserts. The nearest gym to our temporary residence was the Planet Fitness in Waltham and we could not have been more pleased. We want to thank the manager, Chan, and his staff for making us feel welcome and accomodating us for a short period membership. The Planet Fitness offers a full suite of both cardio and strength equipment that addresses all of workout requirements. And there is ample duplication to enable a large number of patrons to burn off excess calories, stress, and energy. This gym is well maintained and the staff was noticeably making rounds to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness. When repairs to equipment were needed it was usually accomplished within 24 hours. The gym hours are great and meshed nicely with our hectic schedule. Weekday hours are from 5:00 am until 10:00 pm which ensured we could get in a daily workout. The patrons here are very friendly and and we enjoyed the social dimensions of being in the gym. We also noted that everyone is meticulous about cleaning the equipment after completing a set. Great facility with a wide variety of equipment and an attentive staff and genial patrons made for an exceptional experience. We want to thank Chan and his team for making Planet Fitness our travel gym in Boston!

I really like the vibe at Beacon Hill Athletic Club. It's low-key, mellow, and has everything I…read moreneed without feeling overwhelming. There are plenty of cardio options, classes, a spin studio, free weights, and a large selection of Hoist weight machines. It's actually the only fitness center I've been to in the area that has Hoist equipment. I'm still getting used to the machines, but so far, I like them. There's also a decent-sized stretching area and about 10 TV screens throughout the gym. I believe you can tune into the TV audio, although I haven't ventured down that path yet--I'm usually watching something on my phone or listening to music. The front desk staff is always friendly, and check-in is quick and easy. There are water fountains as well as bottled water available for purchase. The locker room is clean. While it's on the smaller side, they do have either a steam room or sauna--I'm honestly not sure which! There are a couple of showers and all the standard locker room amenities. One thing I like is that every locker has its own key attached to a stretchy wrist cord, so there's no need to bring a lock. In fact, you can't use your own. Crowds have been minimal during the summer, which has been great. I'm curious to see how busy it gets once summer ends and school is back in session. So far, Beacon Hill Athletic Club gets a 10/10 from me. Great atmosphere, solid equipment, friendly staff, and an easygoing feel. Highly recommend!

I've been a member of Beacon Hill Athletic Club (Wellesley) for three years, and the only reason I…read morecontinue to go is because it's convenient and there aren't many easy alternatives nearby. The biggest issue is that the equipment is badly outdated. Walking into the gym feels like stepping into the 1980s. The machines are old, the overall facility feels tired, and it is long overdue for a serious investment and refresh. The locker rooms are in a similar state, very dated and in clear need of renovation. To be fair, the club is clean. Extremely clean. In fact, the staff often seem more concerned with cleaning equipment than allowing members to use it. The constant wiping down and fussing over machines can feel excessive and, at times, genuinely strange. The atmosphere is also disappointing. Peter appears to have a group of favorite members and regularly has loud, bro-style conversations with them across the gym. These conversations often include inappropriate language that feels unprofessional in a fitness club setting. Another staff member, a younger guy, is consistently rude and seems to think the gym's sound system exists solely for his benefit. When he's working, members are subjected to some truly awful reggae playlists. Peter's music choices aren't much better, with a steady diet of jazz and 70s music that feels completely disconnected from what most people would expect in a modern gym. The overall impression is that the gym is run around the preferences of the staff rather than the members. Whether it's the music, the conversations, or the way the floor is managed, there seems to be very little thought given to creating an environment that is motivating and enjoyable for the people actually paying to work out there. The one saving grace is the woman who works at the front desk. She is consistently friendly, welcoming, professional, and genuinely customer-focused. She treats members with respect and clearly understands what good customer service looks like. Ironically, she also seems to have the best taste in music. Unfortunately, it's uncomfortable to watch how some of the other staff, particularly Peter, treat her. She deserves far better than the dismissive attitude she often appears to receive. For a club that charges premium membership fees, the facilities, atmosphere, and management approach simply don't measure up.
