I've been wanting to try Wandee Thai Cuisine for some time now and finally got around to getting lunch takeout from them today. Overall, the food was excellent, and staff were friendly and nice. I did find the prices a little on the high side though. I got a lunch combo and with taxes it came to $18.05 (and I didn't even get a drink). In my opinion this is a bit pricey for lunch, but others may be of a different opinion. I got the Lunch Combo #2 (which is $15.95 before taxes). This came with a vegetable spring roll, Beef Penang Curry, Chicken Pad Thai, and Jasmine rice. The spring roll came separately in a bag, but everything else was in a round takeout container that was divided into 3 sections. The spring roll was nice and crispy. It had cabbage, carrots, and taro in it. The Beef Curry had some red and green peppers in it as well as slices of beef. The curry had a rich peanut taste to it and was overall very good. The portion size wasn't that large though and most of it was sauce. The Pad Thai had a nice authentic Thai aroma to it and the flavours were much more complex than at fast food Thai places like Thai Express. I asked for no bean sprouts and they had no problem accommodating this request. I didn't get too many chicken pieces, but I still enjoyed this dish. It had some eggs in it and was garnished with peanuts, basil, and cilantro. The rice was fine, no complaints there. The ladies working there were really pleasant. Lots of smiles and "thank yous." The place is small. There are seats if you want to eat in, but the restaurant only seats 12. And if you eat in you will be surrounded by hoards of people coming in for pick-up and takeout. This place is popular! They do have some picnic tables out front, so if the weather is nice you can eat there outside. This place is in Little Italy, but not on the main drag that is Preston Street. It's just off Preston. There's only street parking, and the street parking nearby is all paid/metered parking (unless you come in the evening or weekends then it's free). If you're ok to walk a bit, there is some free street parking during weekday daytime hours (1 hour limit) on smaller side streets.

I had a craving for flavourful, spicy food, so I made a dinner reservation here on a Sunday (they only have about 10 spots inside and 2 picnic tables outside, so highly recommend a reservation)! I tried these dishes: - Pad thai (with chicken, not spicy): the sweet flavours were more predominant than salty/sour, so probably not for everyone. But still tasty! I wish it came with more veggies; compared to the pad kee mau, it didn't have too many toppings and I felt like it was the least value pick. - Pad kee mau (with chicken, 2 chilies by default): this was probably my favourite; the assortment of colors from the vegetables and the spicy sauce made for a satisfying dish! I only wish portions were bigger. It also lacked charred bits sticking to noodles from the wok, which I was hoping for. If this was present, it would be five stars! - Nuea ta krai (crispy beef stirfry): I was excited for some seriously crispy beef, but the dish was just slightly crispy, although flavorful. It was still very tasty and satisfying, if you want something fried! Spicyness: personally, I found 2 chilies a good amount of heat, but I still craved more spice (I'm a masochist when it comes to spice); so next time I'll ask for 3 chili peppers! Service was friendly and quick enough, and you can watch the cook make the food as it's an open kitchen. I felt as though the chair height was too high for the table, which made for a slightly uncomfortable dining experience.

What beautiful Thai food! Quite a gem this one is. Fragrant, colorful and very tasty Thai dishes. Small place, seats about a dozen people at most, they seem to keep quite busy with a steady flow of take away. The staff were very friendly and respectful. Will go there again and again!

    Many excellent menu choices!

Soooo Wandee-ful! Omg - yum! I phoned around to a couple of different Thai food places, asking the same question I always ask: do you use MSG in your food? I'm used to having no luck finding any Asian food without MSG, but much to my joy, they said no and I rushed right over with my excited but empty belly. And guess what? The flavours were so delightfully genuine, all the food made with quality ingredients into savoury, sweet, and floral deliciousness! I was astonished to see real dried jasmine strands throughout the dish, infusing the whole thing with that subtle signature flavour. Periodically, a delivery guy would come in dropping off fresh ingredients to the ladies cooking behind the counter. The dishes are a very generous size, so my manfriend and I were stuffed to the gills. Next time, we'll just share one appetizer (the spring rolls are crispy crunchy perfection) and one main dish. I recommend the pineapple shrimp! Their prices are very affordable, especially when you're sharing. The all-woman show that runs the place is just lovely - it was immediately apparent that they are total pros, and have a really nice kitchen dynamic together. Really pleasant service, and good vibes all around, making the food just that much better. I could easily become a regular here!

I don't get to eat Thai food too often. But I loved the Thai curry at this place. I have celiac disease and when I told the server she understood right away and told me what to stay away from on the menu. I had the red curry that was served with pineapple. I'm also vegetarian, and when I told the server that they changed the dish for me which was so kind (I think they usually serve it with shrimp but they swapped it for more veggies). The red curry was creamy, very filling. It wasn't as spicy as I was expecting it to be but it was also spicy enough so it didn't become overpowering. This is a really small place, so if you can book a table - do it. It has a fast environment. Most people come in to pick up their food rather than sit and eat. But I was with friends. The wait for food was hardly noticeable. Service was quick and nice. The only downside is that because it is a small place, the weather outside permeates throughout the restaurant whenever someone comes and goes. So if you are eating here during the winter, it's best to keep your coat on. I recommend it for sure! Preferably during a warm day. I want to go back and try all the curries.

I got the Chicken Pad Khee Mao ($12) and it was excellent. It had a lot of vegetables, which I loved. It had broccoli, carrots, bell peppers, Bok Choy and bean sprouts. The vegetables were all dente which I liked. I normally don't like bean sprouts and I forgot to ask to have them omitted, but it ended up being ok, because the amount of bean sprouts was not excessive and they tasted ok. The chicken was lean chicken breast slices. The thick rice noodles were a good texture, soft but not too soft. The flavour was also excellent. It had a bit of spice but it wasn't too hot. The noodles also weren't too oily. They fry it up in a wok when you order it, so it's very fresh. My friend had their iced tea and a few appetizers and she seemed to enjoy them. The couple working the stand were very welcoming and friendly. Note that the prices at the Farmers' Market are a bit less than on the restaurant menu. Not sure if the portions are smaller, but I think it's a great way to try their food for a bit less. I really enjoyed the Pad Khee Mao and I'm looking forward to trying more items from them.

Maybe the definition of being a foodie should include finding the food stand's brick-and-mortar store after devouring great food and drink at a market. It's exactly what we did. It makes sense if we aren't at the market on weekends. We can get our Thai fix here. I ended up getting finger food from this eatery at the market. I ordered a pork wonton and a shrimp spring roll. The man at the stand was so nice that he gave me a pork wonton on the house. It was a nice surprise and I will never say no to free food. I also got a Thai iced tea. Drinks were self-serve once you got a cup from him. I made the mistake of pouring sala cider instead. Oops! He was great getting me another cup and I made sure that I got Thai iced tea, which was cold and excellent on a hot day. It's funny that I ended up having both drinks. I loved my pork wontons. They were crispy on the outside. The filling was nicely seasoned. I could taste basil, which made them heavenly. There was decent shrimp filling in the spring roll, which had a nice crunch to it. My friend got the chicken pad khee mao. She loved it. She said that it had bean sprouts, which aren't her thing. However, there weren't a lot of them and she ate them all. I didn't have a chance to volunteer to eat them. The food was that good! I want noodles now. I hope to get some when I'm back, along with more finger food. (265)

I must say it was 10x better than my lunch! The place is quaint, with fuchsia/burgundy chair covers. It was a quiet Saturday night for them. I ordered the green curry with veggies. It didn't come with rice, but I was ok with it. I can drink the broth like a soup. There was lots of variety of veggies and it came hot. The broth was not salty at all which is excellent since I treated like a soup. My partner had the chicken pad Thai. The sauce was not overwhelming and was not sweet at all which was nice. They didn't forget that he wanted extra crushed peanuts. Overall it was a nice satisfying dinner to fill my tummy since the last two places were a disappointment (Blue Cactus and El Camino).

She has a review, so if you're bored reading mine, go read hers instead. I frankly wanted to simply say in this review to read hers and skip writing one... haha! We walked in. The lobby was beautiful and cozy, showcasing the Thai culture with dragons and more. We were seated pretty quickly. This restaurant had a lunch menu. Yay, deals! I got the gang garee gai. It was yellow curry with chicken and potatoes, in coconut milk, with steamed jasmine rice. My friend got the beef kao soi, which was a curry soup with noodles. We got a constant stream of iced water. Thank goodness! We were both in dire need of cooling down being out and about on a hot summer day. It also came in handy while we were dining. Our food didn't take long to prepare. I was excited to chow down. The gang garee gai was yummy. I liked the curry flavour. The chicken was tender. There were a few potatoes that lightly thickened the curry. I loved the subtle coconut milk in the sauce. The jasmine rice was perfectly done. The downside was that the curry was salty. My friend agreed with my assessment, as her soup was also salty. At least the sodium levels were consistent here. She also made the comment that her dish was lacking vegetables, except for a thin slice of red pepper. I could tell that this meal threw my thirst level off the rails for the rest of my day. I had six drinks after this meal, without counting the iced water refills here. I downed two consecutive bubble teas that night, which I rarely do. The positive from the salt increase in my system: I was not bloated afterwards. The washrooms are downstairs. It is an older building, so it's not built for accessibility. The washroom was clean. It's street parking here. You can probably find a side street to park for free. The service was excellent. If the salt is toned down, I'd return to try more dishes off the menu. Otherwise, expect to be thirsty all day after eating here. (287)

Overall, I thought the food had good flavour, but it was too salty and didn't have enough vegetables. We ordered from the lunch menu and I got the Beef Kao Soi ($17.50). It came with a generous portion of beef. The beef was tender. The deep-fried noodles were tasty. The curry coconut milk broth was full of flavour, with the tiniest amount of spicy heat, but it was too salty for my tastes. Also the dish was lacking in vegetables. The only vegetables I got was that tiny sliver of red pepper in the picture I posted, and some green onions (which I consider more of a garnish). Maybe this dish doesn't traditionally come with vegetables? I don't know, but I did not feel virtuous eating just meat and noodles, lol. My friend got a chicken curry and she found her meal salty as well. Service was lovely. Very attentive but not intrusive. We drank a lot of iced water firstly because it was such a hot day out and secondly because the food was salty, and the servers refilled our waters regularly. The dining room is nicely decorated with traditional Thai items. The food itself I would give 3.5, but I'm rounding up for good service and nice ambiance. If they went easier on the salt, I would have enjoyed it much more because the seasoning and spices were great. Street parking only.
