Cute little ice cream shop with both indoor and outdoor seating. I love that you're able to sample the flavors before you make your decision because there are so many flavors to choose from. They also have vegan options (coconut based and $1 more) which is a plus if you're dairy free. The staff member who served us was very nice, smiley and genuinely happy to be there. I ended up going with the banana Nutella. After sampling it first I fell in love with the true banana flavor and creaminess. I got a mini size which was the perfect treat after a large dinner nearby.

I only really do premium ice cream, and my thoughts here were that the place might have too small of a menu to be worthwhile, but upon arriving I was unable to substantiate this or any other potential drawback. The smell of fresh waffle cones wafted through the place, and while it was busy the line moved quickly. Spoiled for choice, I got a cream flavored of ripe banana with nutella swirl, as well as a more conventional mint chip. Both were richly flavored and smooth in texture. In the heat of a NC summer, even good ice cream melts quickly, and I rather wished I'd gotten a waffle bowl instead of a waffle cone. Other options were available, including vegan ice cream and even gluten-free cones for the people in front of me. So for anyone that wants a top notch dessert, there's really no reason not to go.

Was coming back from downtown and wanted ice cream. I had heard about a shop in the soda pop district that I should check out. It's a small shop nicely decorated with both indoor and outdoor seating. I was greeted immediately, the inside shop seats were almost full. A friendly employee described the flavors, love it ; there are locals and visitors ice cream. No artificial ingredients used and so many choices. The smell of fresh cooking waffles for cones and bowls filled the air. I decided to try the Hidden Grounds Salty Dino. A coffee ice cream with salted caramel in it, one scoop in a cup. It was a very good sized scoop, it almost filled the 8oz , bamboo paper cup. Loved that it was not styrofoam. The ice cream was divine , so creamy , great flavor , love the salted caramel that hid in the ice cream. I would definitely go back and try another flavor.

Yummy locally made ice cream with vegan options! They offer mini scoop option ($3) and also a flight of 6 scoops for $11; I appreciate a good seasonal vegan flavor! Me and kiddo shared the apple cider sorbet out of a cup. Hubby got a scoop of the caramelized banana Nutella, which he said was rich but not very Nutella flavored. Compostable cups and spoons. Small indoor and outdoor seating area Free Street parking

Good homemade ice cream! I loved that they have flavors that are always available, plus 6 new flavors that are only around for certain times! They have mini sizes for kiddos or those who are trying not to over indulge. They also make their own waffle cones so it was cool to see that. Prices start at $2.50 (for mini). I tried the strawberry fields and cookies and cream. It was a nice intimate spot- small and cozy. The young lady helping us was polite and informed us that you get unlimited samples, which I thought was cool! Loved the customer service. For 2 ice creams with double scoops in a cup plus a bottle of water, we paid $16 and some change. They also have some vegan options where they use coconut as a substitute. Would I go back? Yes. Should you check it out if you're in the area? Absolutely.

By far the best ice cream and waffle cone I have EVER had and I'm a huge ice cream girl. Had banana Nutella in store and bought a pint of cannoli to come home, both out of this world. Customer service was great too. 10/10 in every way

I liked the ice cream, but some of the flavors didn't come through for me in the finish. One of the workers didn't know what type of dairy the ice cream was made with. Confusing line situation. I probably won't be returning since I tend to eat plant based ice cream or Gelarto.

10/10 this place is amazing! It's going to do so well in Wilmington! It's located right next to the ibis in the soda pop district! The ambiance is so clean and crisp! They literally thought about everything when designing this spot! A cute insta pic moment for sure! The ice cream was so yummy, we tried two flavors and then picked the one we wanted! The mint strachitella was awesome! Got one scoop with sprinkles! The prices were very good also! The owner and staff were so nice and welcoming! This place is the ultimate spot after a hot beach day!

Ice cream is great plus tasting each one before you buy is nice feature. Price is pricey but it's not dairy cream so it's worth it!

From the 6 monthly flavors to the mini cones you can't miss the fresh ice cream. It's worth waiting on line.

Disappointing Experience from a Long-Awaited Visit…read more As a longtime fan of the British show Escape to the Country, I was excited to see an episode featuring a family returning to the UK after starting a gelato business in Wilmington, NC. Despite living over 1,300 miles away in Texas, we have family nearby and made a mental note to visit their shop the next time we were in town. That opportunity finally came yesterday. We headed to the Riverwalk with high hopes and found the gelato shop easily. The area was bustling, thanks to a nearby conference, and there were a few customers inside. When we walked in, no one was immediately visible behind the counter--until a young woman popped up from behind it with a rather odd, suspicious laugh and asked how she could help. We told her we were looking at the menu board and needed a moment. As we browsed, she pulled out a sample spoon--not to offer us a taste, but to stick her head into the cooler, dig around in a container of gelato with the spoon (as if picking something out), and then eat from it. No gloves. No hand washing. All of this happened right in front of us. Perhaps this is their normal routine, but it was a major red flag for us. It raised concerns not just about what we could see, but especially about what we couldn't--like their broader hygiene and food safety practices. We made a polite excuse, left without ordering, and ended up at another nearby shop on the boardwalk. There, the first thing the employee did was put on disposable gloves before handling our order--exactly the level of care we expect from a food establishment. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. I really wanted to love this place. But after what we witnessed, we simply couldn't bring ourselves to take the risk.

The ambiance of the shop was trendy and clean and it's right on the boardwalk so easy to eat your gelato right one the water.

This review involves both Celtic Creamery and DoorDash…read more If you order from Celtic Creamery through DoorDash, be aware. My last two orders had major issues. On 6/4, my order arrived completely melted because the ice cream had leaked through a paper lunch bag after the containers weren't properly closed. I figured "mistakes happen" and let it go. However, my most recent order (6/23) arrived with only one of the three items I paid for ( on a $45+ order). I remember not too long ago when businesses took more ownership of problems like this. I know DoorDash can issue a partial refund, but that isn't really the point. I paid for a service and tonight when something went wrong, everyone just pointed somewhere else. The part I can't get past is that LITERALLY no one could tell me where the rest of my order went. Like, hello?! The driver said there were no additional bags. So I called Celtic Creamery and the guy on the phone said they had tried to tell him there were multiple bags as the dasher left (which I have a hard time believing when the dasher was a 5 star dasher with over 1k ratings.) But if that's true...then where did the other $27 of my order go? What surprised me even more was that NO ONE offered a practical solution. If the missing items were still at the shop, I would have gladly driven over to pick them up. Even something as simple as, "We're sorry. Come pick up the rest of your order, and here's a free scoop or a small gift card for the inconvenience," would have gone a long way toward keeping me as a customer. Instead, the conversation ended with little more than an apology and no real attempt to resolve what happened. A lack of ownership is what lost my business. While DoorDash shares *some* responsibility, these issues have happened with different drivers on multiple orders from Celtic Creamery, which makes me question the store's packaging and order verification process. If a business chooses to offer delivery, orders should be packaged securely and verified before they leave the store--especially when signature desserts cost $12 or more a piece. The ice cream itself is good. Our first order was excellent, which makes these last two experiences even more disappointing. Unfortunately, repeated problems with missing items, melted deliveries, and a lack of accountability mean I won't be ordering from Celtic Creamery again.
