She said that I could taste as many ice cream flavors as I wanted to......say less...lol. I only tried 1 and instantly fell in love. I got the cold brew ice cream in a waffle bowl. Soo good! This adorable little ice cream shop is super clean and has a nice look to it. The girl working behind the counter was super sweet and explained each flavor to me. She let me sample multiple flavors and gave me recommendations as well. The caramelized banana Nutella was a unique and tasty flavor, made with real bananas! The ice cream was a little less creamy than I'd like it, but still super delicious. The waffle cone was crispy and had a great flavor to it, you could tell it was fresh. I only really do premium ice cream, and my thoughts here were that the place might have too small of a menu to be worthwhile, but upon arriving I was unable to substantiate this or any other potential drawback. The smell of fresh waffle cones wafted through the place, and while it was busy the line moved quickly. Spoiled for choice, I got a cream flavored of ripe banana with nutella swirl, as well as a more conventional mint chip. Both were richly flavored and smooth in texture. In the heat of a NC summer, even good ice cream melts quickly, and I rather wished I'd gotten a waffle bowl instead of a waffle cone. Other options were available, including vegan ice cream and even gluten-free cones for the people in front of me. Was coming back from downtown and wanted ice cream. I had heard about a shop in the soda pop district that I should check out. It's a small shop nicely decorated with both indoor and outdoor seating. I was greeted immediately, the inside shop seats were almost full. A friendly employee described the flavors, love it ; there are locals and visitors ice cream. No artificial ingredients used and so many choices. The smell of fresh cooking waffles for cones and bowls filled the air. I decided to try the Hidden Grounds Salty Dino. A coffee ice cream with salted caramel in it, one scoop in a cup. It was a very good sized scoop, it almost filled the 8oz , bamboo paper cup. Loved that it was not styrofoam. The ice cream was divine , so creamy , great flavor , love the salted caramel that hid in the ice cream. I would definitely go back and try another flavor. read more

It's 90 degrees and I just went for a run so I'm thinking it's an ice cream for dinner night. I'd been wanting to check out Wandering Cone for a while so I figure I' had the perfect excuse. The street parking was full so I parked up a bit and went inside. I was immediately greeted by someone and was told the difference between the visiting flavors and main ones. I tried the Dubai Chocolate and an Olive oil. The Dubai chocolate was good but I wasn't crazy about the texture. The olive oil ice cream was sublime. It was rich and smooth and flavorful and didn't taste like olive oil but was creamy and delicious. I had it in a waffle cone and the cone was light and crisp and tasted a bit of brown sugar or cinnamon. I'll definitely be heading back to try additional flavors. read more

I tried the strawberry fields and cookies and cream. It was a nice intimate spot- small and cozy. The young lady helping us was polite and informed us that you get unlimited samples, which I thought was cool! Loved the customer service. Wow is all I have to say. One of the best ice creams and best waffle cones. Ice cream and waffle cones are made in house. Free parallel street parking right in front. No store front sign but just look for the unit number and ice cream cone sign. They are generous with sampling the ice cream. They had some special flavors during my visit: rice pudding, pina colada, and roasted cherry vanilla. Sample the rice pudding (flavored with cinnamon and cardamom with pieces of rice), roasted cherry vanilla, strawberry fields, sweet cream chocolate chip, cold brew, and caramelized banana Nutella. Everything was good, but ultimately decided on getting the caramelized banana Nutella and strawberry fields ice creams in a waffle bowl. The ice cream did not melt quickly, had a perfect mouthfeel. The waffle cone breaks easily so be careful when eating it! The waffle cone is thin almost like a buttery cookie, which I didn't mind. Vegan ice cream and gluten free waffle cones available. What a great little place . We walked in and were greeted immediately by several of the ladies working there. We had never been there so one of them explained it all to us which was awesome. When I went with my 4yo and baby on a hot Wednesday afternoon, we were lucky to snag the indoor table area to enjoy the air conditioning, otherwise it would have been bar style seating up against the front window or outside in the heat. The staff was friendly and proud to report that their menu was all homemade, which is nice to see. My daughter and I both had vegan cookies and cream (coconut base) and were both unable to finish our servings because they were just too sweet for us (which is a big deal/ never happens with my 4yo who has a major sweet tooth). Maybe I missed parking options, but we drove around a bit to find street parking which isn't my favorite, but it was worth it to check out this spot.
