Such a cute ice cream shop located near Front Street in Wilmington. I was greeted as soon as I entered the shop. The employee was so nice and friendly. She said that I could taste as many ice cream flavors as I wanted to......say less...lol. I only tried 1 and instantly fell in love. I got the cold brew ice cream in a waffle bowl. Soo good! I enjoyed every bit. If I am ever in Wilmington I will definitely be back for a nice cool and refreshing dessert. read more

This adorable little ice cream shop is super clean and has a nice look to it. The girl working behind the counter was super sweet and explained each flavor to me. She let me sample multiple flavors and gave me recommendations as well. The caramelized banana Nutella was a unique and tasty flavor, made with real bananas! The ice cream was a little less creamy than I'd like it, but still super delicious. The waffle cone was crispy and had a great flavor to it, you could tell it was fresh. This is a great little ice cream spot and the prices are pretty reasonable as well! read more

Cute little ice cream shop with both indoor and outdoor seating. I love that you're able to sample the flavors before you make your decision because there are so many flavors to choose from. They also have vegan options (coconut based and $1 more) which is a plus if you're dairy free. The staff member who served us was very nice, smiley and genuinely happy to be there. I ended up going with the banana Nutella. After sampling it first I fell in love with the true banana flavor and creaminess. I got a mini size which was the perfect treat after a large dinner nearby. read more

I only really do premium ice cream, and my thoughts here were that the place might have too small of a menu to be worthwhile, but upon arriving I was unable to substantiate this or any other potential drawback. The smell of fresh waffle cones wafted through the place, and while it was busy the line moved quickly. Spoiled for choice, I got a cream flavored of ripe banana with nutella swirl, as well as a more conventional mint chip. Both were richly flavored and smooth in texture. In the heat of a NC summer, even good ice cream melts quickly, and I rather wished I'd gotten a waffle bowl instead of a waffle cone. Other options were available, including vegan ice cream and even gluten-free cones for the people in front of me. So for anyone that wants a top notch dessert, there's really no reason not to go. read more

Was coming back from downtown and wanted ice cream. I had heard about a shop in the soda pop district that I should check out. It's a small shop nicely decorated with both indoor and outdoor seating. I was greeted immediately, the inside shop seats were almost full. A friendly employee described the flavors, love it ; there are locals and visitors ice cream. No artificial ingredients used and so many choices. The smell of fresh cooking waffles for cones and bowls filled the air. I decided to try the Hidden Grounds Salty Dino. A coffee ice cream with salted caramel in it, one scoop in a cup. It was a very good sized scoop, it almost filled the 8oz , bamboo paper cup. Loved that it was not styrofoam. The ice cream was divine , so creamy , great flavor , love the salted caramel that hid in the ice cream. I would definitely go back and try another flavor. read more

It's 90 degrees and I just went for a run so I'm thinking it's an ice cream for dinner night. I'd been wanting to check out Wandering Cone for a while so I figure I' had the perfect excuse. The street parking was full so I parked up a bit and went inside. I was immediately greeted by someone and was told the difference between the visiting flavors and main ones. I tried the Dubai Chocolate and an Olive oil. The Dubai chocolate was good but I wasn't crazy about the texture. The olive oil ice cream was sublime. It was rich and smooth and flavorful and didn't taste like olive oil but was creamy and delicious. I had it in a waffle cone and the cone was light and crisp and tasted a bit of brown sugar or cinnamon. I'll definitely be heading back to try additional flavors. read more

Good homemade ice cream! I loved that they have flavors that are always available, plus 6 new flavors that are only around for certain times! They have mini sizes for kiddos or those who are trying not to over indulge. They also make their own waffle cones so it was cool to see that. Prices start at $2.50 (for mini). I tried the strawberry fields and cookies and cream. It was a nice intimate spot- small and cozy. The young lady helping us was polite and informed us that you get unlimited samples, which I thought was cool! Loved the customer service. For 2 ice creams with double scoops in a cup plus a bottle of water, we paid $16 and some change. They also have some vegan options where they use coconut as a substitute. Would I go back? Yes. Wow is all I have to say. One of the best ice creams and best waffle cones. Ice cream and waffle cones are made in house. Free parallel street parking right in front. No store front sign but just look for the unit number and ice cream cone sign. They are generous with sampling the ice cream. They had some special flavors during my visit: rice pudding, pina colada, and roasted cherry vanilla. Sample the rice pudding (flavored with cinnamon and cardamom with pieces of rice), roasted cherry vanilla, strawberry fields, sweet cream chocolate chip, cold brew, and caramelized banana Nutella. Everything was good, but ultimately decided on getting the caramelized banana Nutella and strawberry fields ice creams in a waffle bowl. The ice cream did not melt quickly, had a perfect mouthfeel. The waffle cone breaks easily so be careful when eating it! The waffle cone is thin almost like a buttery cookie, which I didn't mind. Vegan ice cream and gluten free waffle cones available. For floats currently only Cola and Root beer sodas available. Compostable spoons. There are a few outdoor tables and indoor seating. Staff and owner Amanda were very nice and welcoming. read more

10/10 this place is amazing! It's going to do so well in Wilmington! It's located right next to the ibis in the soda pop district! The ambiance is so clean and crisp! They literally thought about everything when designing this spot! A cute insta pic moment for sure! The ice cream was so yummy, we tried two flavors and then picked the one we wanted! The mint strachitella was awesome! Got one scoop with sprinkles! The prices were very good also! The owner and staff were so nice and welcoming! What a great little place . We walked in and were greeted immediately by several of the ladies working there. We had never been there so one of them explained it all to us which was awesome. She was incredibly personable and nice the entire time. She offered samples to us as well. The ice cream overall was good . I got the chocolate s'mores and strawberry Fields in a homemade waffle cone. The cone started to fall apart a bit so they gave me a plastic cup to hold it. Will stop by again read more

Cute design elements and great music in there. When I went with my 4yo and baby on a hot Wednesday afternoon, we were lucky to snag the indoor table area to enjoy the air conditioning, otherwise it would have been bar style seating up against the front window or outside in the heat. The staff was friendly and proud to report that their menu was all homemade, which is nice to see. My daughter and I both had vegan cookies and cream (coconut base) and were both unable to finish our servings because they were just too sweet for us (which is a big deal/ never happens with my 4yo who has a major sweet tooth). Maybe I missed parking options, but we drove around a bit to find street parking which isn't my favorite, but it was worth it to check out this spot. We will likely return to try some other flavors. read more

Hands down THE best ice cream in town! They have half of their menu the "locals" that are always there, and then the "visitors" which rotate monthly. We go often, because they're always releasing amazing visitor flavors and you get fomo if you don't try them the staff is super friendly and patient while you try all the samples too. One of the cutest ice cream shops I've ever been to. The owner and her staff were all super friendly and allowed us to try a few samples before choosing a flavor. The hardest part was picking a flavor as they were all so good. I had the mint stracciatella in a waffle cone and the single scoop was very generously sized! The cone was delicious and the ice cream was so creamy. The owner told us all about the ice cream and how she makes everything herself. Can I give it 10 stars? This place is fantastic! I'm obsessed with ice cream and so the option of getting a "flight" with 6 flavors was very appealing! Such unique flavors - who knew Lemon Poppyseed would work!? Amanda, the owner and brains behind the flavors sure knew! My second favorite was the S'mores with the homemade graham crackers. And let's not forget about the waffle cones (which I bought on the side to dip in my flight!) - I can't wait to return. Well done! read more

I'm not sure which I like the best, but maybe the Mona Lisa or American Gothic. For seating, they have unique stools made from upcycled Vespa motor scooters, alongside traditional tables and chairs. The gelato and waffle cones are manufactured directly in Turin, Italy. There are 40 flavors, but they rotate regularly, so not all are available at the same time. Samples are provided before you order. I am still trying to time my visits just right for the cinnamon! Besides their premium gelato, they offer fruit sorbets, shakes, and specialty cakes, as well as coffee if you are just looking for a warm beverage. On my last visit, I ordered two scoops--one of vanilla and one of chocolate hazelnut--and it was delicious as always. Just a helpful heads-up that the actual utensils they give you to eat your cup with are those very small, traditional-tasting spoons rather than standard ice cream spoons! Gelarto does have an exceptionally clean restroom available for customers, though you will need to ask the staff for the security keypad code to get inside. Maybe cinnamon will be available in October, as it is an autumn flavor.

For a small you can choose up to two flavors and for large up to three flavors. You can request a lid for the cups to make it to-go. Sampled mango, milk and cookies, and mochaccino chip (non dairy) ice cream. They were all very good, but the coffee flavor of the mochaccino chip ice cream was weak. Ultimately settled on a smal cup ($8.50) berry berry extraordinary sorbet and the mochaccino chip ice cream. The berry berry sorbet was refreshing, it was like a berry smoothie. No seating inside at this time, but there are three tables outdoors (not covered). Tip that I didn't know-for anyone visiting to sign up for the Ben & Jerry's flavor fanatics rewards program beforehand so you can get 10% off on every visit. Not much but still something since the small cup is so expensive! Latella is far superior to any of them, and to most other sugary treat options nearby. It appears to still be family-run (seemingly by a different family than was running it a few years ago... but the quality remains high -- they just need to put up some atmospheric photos of the new family's ancestors) and resembles some of the great gelato shops I encountered on the Italian coast. The gelato is great, with a revolving variety of flavors -- something for everyone. Plus, floats and other fun things. Once again, the quality is far superior to any ice cream shop in town. Also, it is particularly wonderful that the shop is usually open, with someone at the counter, during listed business hours. Most other places, and, in particular, those that sell frozen things, tend to close up early when it's cold out (or for any other random reasons, in North Carolina). It is the sign of a great business, and usually a family-run one, that they are available even during slow hours.
