We were standing near the bar, and one of the bartenders invited us to sit and moved chairs around for us. Service was excellent and very friendly. We had the roasted tomato burrata sandwich and flatbread. Each were great. This is such a cool place, there is a vinyl store within the restaurant, but it was closed when we there. There also was an area they sell guitars, all so random, but fit so well together. A very cool, comfy place to enjoy drinks, food and music.

The historic building has a tin roof and a wooden bar that eeks history. Our waitress was so welcoming and made us feel right at home. I enjoyed the roasted tomato burrata baguette sandwich and it was toasted and tasty. Several of my dining partners also had the same sandwich. Another had the Warm Roasted Root Vegetable Salad that she said was wonderful. We finished the meal with generous portions of carrot cake topped with delicious cream cheese frosting. There is a store inside the Black Moon (that happened to be closed on a Saturday night). In the corner they sell vinyl records and CDs and there is also a selection of guitars. There was also a musician playing live music near the front of the pub that really added to the atmosphere. It was a truly great find right on Main Street in Ellsworth.

It was then that I discovered that they made pizza in one of those wood-fired, outside stone ovens. They are only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons so it took me 2 years to get there but I finally made it. It is a farm, a goat farm, where you can buy goat cheese, goat pepperoni (goateroni), and buy and eat a pizza. There were 5 pizzas on the menu. They are not cheap ($13 for a pizza the size of a paper dinner plate) but they are delicious! We were really hungry so we planned to eat a pizza each but then we ordered a third and all of them were worth it. See my picture of the chalkboard menu. We ordered # 2,3, and 4. I have to say that the one with the caramelized onions was the best, probably because of the bite of the goat and feta cheeses. Watch the pizzas cook. It takes about 2 minutes. There is a long, high table to eat at or some Adirondack chairs to sit at eat under cover in case of rain or too much sun. However, this did not work well for my wheelchair companion so we just ate in the car. I also took home a chunk of cheese. Unfortunately, the pizza maker did not know what it tasted like but he was honest about it. It was delicious. Worth the trip if you like Neopolitan pizza with the thin and ever so slightly charred crust. Otherwise, eat elsewhere.

The owner also made the pizzas and she was super nice / friendly. The atmosphere is outdoors so it is only a seasonal restaurant. Delicious, but only open for a little bit and on the weekends. All of the clientele are locals that are regulars and freeze pizzas for months later. That's how good it is. They are meant for 2-3 people. Smaller end brick oven pizza.

Seeing it in the distance fills me with an overwhelming sense of excitement as it meant returning to one of my favorite hiking spots in New England (so far) and beginning a weeklong binge on Maine's freshest seafood. I absolutely love this tiny and unassuming (from the outside) seafood market and couldn't wait to be back again this year. Last year, it was the first stop to pick up ingredients for my weeklong visit to Acadia National Park. This year, after a whole year of telling anyone and everyone I knew visiting Acadia, it was once again my first stop after I started driving from Boston. Loaded Lobster Roll - check. Loaded Crab Roll - check. Dorr Hoodie - check. Fresh scallops - check. 5# bag of steamers - check. Calamari salad - check. A pair of lovely fresh and alive lobsters for later - check. Some of the freshest stuff at really competitive prices. What's there not to like? Oh yeah, there is Tim with his super sarcastic sense of humor. A conversation with him just absolutely cracks me up. Super nice dude with a lot of information and makes the overall experience here even better than it already is. I also got to meet the father and son owners during this visit. Always glad to meet the hardworking fishermen behind the amazing product that I've become addicted to.
