Douglas did my first headshot 4 years ago, and through all the other photographers I've worked with, Douglas is the one and only best of all. And don't let his over the top fair and inexpensive pricing fool you, he is the has remarkable quality and is the absolute best bang for your buck in LA. So many search and search for a headshot photographer in the overwhelming sea of photographers in and around Hollywood. If you're reading this review, you needn't search a second longer. You've found Douglas and he is an absolute master of his work. His eye is exquisite and second to none. His experience is built on decades of passion, God given talent, and a relentless fire to study and refine. He has the skill of a master, and the ambition and eagerness a student. Douglas also has a 6th sense when it comes to knowing when to snap the shot. I noticed during the shoot sometimes he'd snap early on a pose and other times he'd wait as long as 10 seconds or more. I mentioned it to him and he said he fully crafts each shot, and waits until your eyes move him, and what he captures of you in that fraction of a second is so honest and pure. Good photographers get 2 keeper shots out of 36. With my shoot, Douglas was 75 for 75 and I mean that literally. Every darn shot was stunning and each had something different to say. My only complaint is they're ALL so incredible, it's next to impossible to choose you're top 15 because they're all that good. Another thing with Douglas is he really enjoys his work which adds so much to the results for headshots. His enthusiasm for the work brings so much energy to your shoot and his warmth puts you at ease. He guides and directs you meticulously and comfortably. He answers questions thoroughly and thoughtfully. And one other thing that's definitely worth noting is his studio. It's clean, private, and very accommodating. He has a dressing room for you to use fully equipped with racks to hang clothing on, a big and brightly lit vanity, as well as almost anything you may need (hairspray, dental floss, trimmers, etc). Also, his studio equipment is top of the line which offers endless options of the very highest of quality (camera, lighting, software, etc). So there you have it. That's my attempt to articulate how great Douglas is and how amazed I am with our shoot. I'm quite obviously ecstatic with our results!!! Thank you so much Douglas. Let me start off my saying that I hate being photographed. I enjoy public speaking but put me in…read morefront of a camera and I get stage fright. I'd rather sit through having my blood drawn by a technician with hand tremors than sit trough a photo shoot. Unfortunately I need to have photos taken from time to time. But because I teach fun workshops with cute titles, like Flirting For Nerds, my events routinely attract local papers, magazines and blogs. So two or three times a year (perennially busy) freelance photographers are hired by papers to take photos to go along with their news stories. It feels like a whirlwind of flashbulbs, confusing directions and my own worries about by hair being out of place, bra strap showing or giving a drivers license worthy mug. It's a 50/50 chance a good pic gets published. Last year a friend of mine recommended having head shots taken to cut down on future anxiety inducing publicity photos. She also recommended photographer Kyle Weaver, and I am very grateful that she did. I contacted Kyle via his website and got a quick response. I told him I had no idea what to do in front of the camera and preemptively apologized for my nerves. While my nervousness about having my photo taken wasn't magically cured, I have to say I never thought a photo shoot could be a fun and even relaxed event. I didn't have to go to an empty photo studio, Kyle came to one of the venues I present my workshops at, putting me in my comfort zone. I was relieved as soon as we shook hands. Kyle was friendly and easy going from the get go. We chatted about my workshops, the types of groups I present to and that I like to keep my look professional but approachable and joke around a fair amount when I present to groups. Before I knew it I was surrounded by a large umbrella like light a reflector and Kyle with his camera aimed at me casually taking test shots while we continued to talk. I can't tell you how pleased I was with the experience and the resulting photos. Kyle listened to my suggestions for posing and was patient enough to let me know if I was holding my arms in an awkward way or needed to relax my smile (two things I have a hard time noticing on my own). He carefully and confidently took photos from different angles, not shooting like a machine gun (like so many previous photographers I shot with did) in attempt to catch at least one good photo out of dozens. And the photographs that Kyle produced? They were beautiful! They made me feel beautiful. I marveled at how flattering the photos were and how his skill in arranging lighting just so made all the difference. Yes, Kyle is a photographer, but in my opinion he's an artist. Now I have photos that I'm proud to have accompany articles and am also quite tickled by how many compliments I've received on the pics. I'll try and upload my head shots to yelp. But in all honesty, Kyle is an absolutely wonderful photographer and he's a pleasure to work with. I needed some basic head shots done for business cards and for an acting workshop I was taking at the time. I'm no model, and sometimes I can get a little stiff in front of the camera. Kyle makes it a fun and relaxing experience. He's just great to talk to; we talked about music and about our respective careers, so the focus was not all about getting "the shot" which makes it much easier to relax. He's not afraid to try different things to get a good shot, and is always mindful and respectful of his models. And I couldn't be happier with the way the photos turned out! And the cherry on top of this sundae? His prices are extremely reasonable! Rumor has it that Kyle is moving out of Chicago, which is a shame.
