It is located 15 minutes from Fort Saint Houston and allows for a great break from the hustle and bustle of the city noise. The path is winding and long and gives way for walkers runners, skaters or bike enthusiasts to enjoy a bit of activity outdoors versus recirculated air-conditioned air inside of a gym. While I am not knocking gyms, I am, however, saying that this alternative may be more appealing to folks who want to spend more time outside and touch grass. There are two different entrances and plenty of place to park. The elevation on the trail varies slightly so there's a nice mix to a flat road and everything is well-maintained. At one point near the end of my run, I saw a deer and that was pretty awesome because let's be honest. How often does that happen? This feels like a great place to spend some time outside and there is more to this park. I am yet to explore so I look forward to providing an update and in your future what a great spot.

19 Apr 2024 This is…read morea very nice park. You wouldn't know it was there unless you knew it was there. It is nestled between apartments and homes off of NE Loop 410. Truly hidden. We walked the left side trail which is relatively flat with some slight rising of the road. The creek is dry. We saw several deer and many butterflies. Trees and other ground growth are abundant. Cardinals were everywhere and singing their distinctive song. The park is almost literally in some homes back yards. The trails are shared with bicyclists which can be a little annoying. They really zip by on the not overly wide trails. Many people are on electric bikes. Go there.

It's a lovely place filled with flowers and aromatic herbs. It's doggie friendly with bags along the trail. Loved that. Plenty of free parking. The backstory is the Butterfly park was built in April 1998, dedicated to Henry Gutierrez and his wife Rosie. From what I understand, the Gutierrez family were quite influential in this region. They were very generous making regular donations to their important causes. This is a beautiful place! Very peaceful. I highly recommend making a trip.

04 Jan 2026 This is…read morea cute,small wilderness area. It butts up against a neighborhood on one side and up against a water dam of some sort on the other. The trail is basically fenced in. This is a dormant time of the year. Nothing flowering, did not see any deer, no insects. Hell, there weren't any birds, either. There was a lot cactus. The trail is a loop. Less than 2 miles. The husband was taking pictures and we were done in less than an hour because as I said, nothing much is happening. We'll go back in two or three months when hopefully things are hopping.

Parking is close by or close to the bridge. Visitors can also fish near the bridge as well. There are also water fountains for humans and pets next to the public restrooms. There are benches along the path and trash cans. Also, this place is great for capturing photos of nature. The area is a flood zone so be careful when it rains. It'd be nice if they put a playground or a swingset, or a restroom out here. Nothing like that here. Just nature. I've seen deer running through this park, and it is always picked up. That's probably because nobody uses it. I've never seen anyone but deer here. There's plenty of parking along Clydesdale Run here. It's a great place to get out and get some sun. There are giant oak trees all over this park, so it's not really optimal for a game of soccer or football. But I'm sure you can come up with some tree friendly activities to do here.

Not a huge parking lot, but there was a space for me to get out of the sun and park to hike the…read moretrail after I had my lunch. There is a Porta potty near the entrance to the trails, but when I looked inside, it had a pile of clothes and looked like someone was living in there or at least sleeping in there at night. I walked the entire loop and it was about one and a quarter miles. Took a little less than 30 minutes to walk the loop. So it's a good lunchtime break to clear the head before going back to work. The trail has very little elevation change just minor up and downs, but the entire trail is paved. It's basically a 5 foot wide sidewalk loop so very easily accessible for anyone who wants to get out and do some hiking or just get back to nature. I didn't see any animals but saw three different birds, a cardinal, a mockingbird and a black Phoebe. Overall, not a bad space to have lunch and walk a little before heading back to work. I would come here again.

It has a gazebo for birthday parties with a couple of benches. Only thing is: bring bug spray because it's already mosquito season in Texas allows mosquitoes lurk in the shade. This park has a running trail that doesn't go too far before it turns to dirt and than you can explore freely deeper into the woods. Come here for a relaxing walk away from crowds of people. The small parking lot will let you know how full it is.

I was lucky enough to attend a hike led by a "Certified Master Naturalist" in this natural state…read morearea. Make note, this trail is not open to the public, you need to sign up for one of the pre-scheduled tours. Info can be found on their website. https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/honey-creek The tour is free, but you have to pay to get into the Guadalupe State Park or get in free with an annual state parks pass - highly recommended! The tour starts at the historic Rust House. You can explore the entire house, then they share some history about the Rust family and the other German families that settled in the area. The hike was a couple of miles, and it lasted about two hours. The guide was VERY knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and I really learned a lot and gained a lot of appreciation for this area. Not a strenuous hike at all, but they recommend wearing long pants because some of the trails we took were in high grass - not terribly high, just a foot or two. You don't need hiking shoes, just an old pair of tennis shoes will do. Most of the hike is shaded and you get some awesome river views about halfway into the hike - get your phones/cameras ready! It's ok for kids too, but parts of it might be boring for them - I would recommend age 8 and up. Not because it's strenuous, but because there are a lot of stops that a kid might be bored with, and I get that. P.S. I saw my first Golden Cheeked Warbler on this hike, thanks to someone on the tour who pointed it out. EVERY Golden Cheeked Warbler is a native Texan y'all - look it up if you don't believe me!

Honey Creek State Natural Area is not for everyone, me included. Not only do you need a reservation…read morebut tours are only offered on Saturdays and fill up quickly. The natural area is within Guadalupe River State Park so make sure you get a pass here as well. I would have preferred to take this hike myself instead of with 10 others who stopped to ask questions every hundred yards. It is pretty but not part of the park I'd need to visit again.
