There is no shade anywhere over water, so you can't wade unless you are directly in the Texas Sun. If you want shade, you have to pay for it by buying lounge chairs or a cabana. The kids waited in line for about 25 minutes for the ride to breakdown; when this happens, they do not accommodate them by fast passing them later or anything like that, they are basically just told tough luck, try again later. On the day I visited it was 103 outside by mid day I couldn't take the heat anymore and came here to cool off and get my hair wet I must say it was a totally refreshing way to escape the heat of the day! They have a good number of waterslides here as well as having all of them be completely different from the next one definitely the highlight of the slides has to be Thunder Rapids Water Coaster as it's the first of its kind in North America and wow is it fun I've never ridden a slide like this before and I found it to be super fun as well as Wet and totally unique to anything I've ever experienced before as the technology that created this is totally rad and a great way to knock out those huge stair cases! The ground here can get super hot I mean super hot and that's coming from me someone who's always barefoot at waterparks so make sure you bring some sandals or something to keep your feet cool from the burning cement or just try to walk in the shade and water spots to keep them from burning! As anyone who visits waterparks will tell you coming to one can be a great workout as well as a rewarding time as your climbing lots of staircases and getting some swim action in if you choose to do that wile your inside their huge State Of Texas shaped wave pool. The waterpark opened a bit later than the park but it was all good as it was super hot by then and this was much needed the best part about this is that Gold Pass members can get into the Water Park 10 min early so that will definitely save you a bit of time and get you on a few more slides! Overall I really enjoyed my time here at the waterpark as all the slides were fun and I thought it was cool that their wave pool had its unique Texas shape to it as it made for some fun waves and splashes! Float's are allowed even though website says otherwise I seen so many the past few times going. When you get there , there is a pool you'll visibly see but as you walk further down you'll see the very BIG spring/river fed swimming pool. If you bring things it has to be in a cooler, no glass, no styrofoam and there is a no tolerance rule on alcohol they will absolutely kick you out, no refunds. We brought a wagon (seen parents with strollers) and a small cooler for food and things. (Sodas, veggie tray, fruit, snacks) the workers WILL CHECK COOLERS so be weary! If you get there early there will be picnic tables available, you can also bring folding chairs and tables, if you don't bring either they allow quilted or picnic blanket. Please also know the water is EXTREMELY cold, 63 degrees, so if you bring little children I would recommend going to the kitty area that doesn't fully submerge them and that is tolerable. Life guards are everywhere so no worries there. The slide is also not there anymore but for a bit older kids there is a something they can swing off of that you'll pass when coming in. There's really something for all ages. THE WATER IS CLEAN!

I've never seen such active wildlife in a neighborhood park and the animals are accustomed to people. Very friendly it almost felt like a movie the way the animals interacted with us. Made for a very fun walk for sure with deers, squirrels, and lizards about. The trails offer plenty of shade from the Texas sun which is necessary. Will be back!

If you had seen this park 40 years ago you'd have thought a natural disaster had occurred. Crumbled…read morepool, fallen trees, fences everywhere. It was a total wreck. Skip forward ten years and the change was amazing! Nice big spring fed pool (then) with ancient giant cypress trees lining the sides. The park grounds had been revitalized and a pavilion added. Also interesting is this strange but serene mound (I think it's called a grotto) with water filtering through it. It only cost $1,'25 to swim if you wanted and yes the bathhouses had been reconstructed. They're kept pretty clean, too. Also note: this is the second oldest public park in the United States. Very profound.
