I bought a lovely cushion for a dining chair in here today which practically matches my kitchen curtains! Some are of the chain variety (think that big ol'green beast Poundland) & others are of the 'Is this REALLY a Pound shop...I saw something for £5 over there?..' and then some, like Pound Shop (great name btw; simple yet to the point) are just a good old fashioned £1 shop where everything is actually just £1. This one nestles within the heaving bosom of Sauchiehall Street and I'm sure it's been a few different things before it found fame as the Pound Shop. It is of GOOD SIZE and is darn well stocked. As you enter they have delightful 'Are you SURE they're not real?!' faux flowers (what do you expect for a quid) and then onwards, depper & darker into the shop more household goodies arise. Toys of questionable origin (and safety) nuzzle against pet items (You want a toy gun for your child or a lead?) which then take place against food/cookery ware. Mmm...now I may mock (slightly) but only because I actually really like the gear in here. It's one of those shops you definitely enter looking for 1 single item and end up with your arms laden with plastic nonsense & kitchen craziness. Past visits we picked up some tres chic & funky 70's inspired glass mugs, some cup & spoon cooking measures, a creepy looking bearded Santa, colouring books, pens, gift tags & all matter of other lovely shiz. Especially at Christmas time this place is brilliant if, like me, you are a fan of the more 'Retro Christmas' or you just simply like cheap stuff. I'm still very tempted by a nice two-seater which I found but there was just one of them; I want to find a matching pair if possible. However, the man I spoke to (who was very helpful) said there were no other sofas exactly the same in their Irvine store either, where he works part of the time, which is a pity. There are hundreds of dining tables and chairs in store, a large selection of sofas, chairs, coffee tables, TV cabinets and sideboards; plenty of beds to browse too with a choice of single, double, king size and children's beds. I was looking mainly at sofas the day before yesterday but didn't like any of the colours. The man working in there assured me that most of the soft furniture came in most colours he produced a book of colours and swatches of material. I preferred one I saw in another store so didn't want to purchase anything on this occasion - but it's definitely worth a look here if you're furnishing a home.

In amongst a plethora of clothes and kitschy vintage cushion covers, I uncovered the most coveted jumper in the history of Mankind. It's unnatural to fall in love with an item of clothing, but I did - it's my favourite jumper in the whole world. It even came with shoulder pads inside! (I cut them out.) This place is packed with genuine articles from the 80s and 90s that have slipped back in with the trend setters. West End studenty type shoppers would probably have an orgasm in here, especially when they looked at the price tag. I did when I saw the best jumper in the universe cost 2 quid! I wear this thing almost every day, seriously. It's magnificent. It's quite possibly the best bargain I have ever acquired. This place is teeming with bargains from all areas and the staff are really friendly. They seem to have a good sense of humour - you'd have to, to like the kind of jumpers I buy. I just love this shop. I never come out of here empty handed, and wear half the items I buy in here more than expensive stuff in my wardrobe. I'd spend the fiver on train fare to pilgrimage to Helensburgh's charity outlets even if I didn't have family down here!

It is so full of items I think it could almost be a fire hazard. They have lots of shoes, clothes and household items. If you an awkward size to find clothes and shoes then this is the place to go - usually there's lots of very small or very large items but not much in between. The staff are friendly. There is a large car park outside which goes around the building but the access back onto the main road is quite awkward. When I have visited in the past I have found that the kitchen/ cafe area has a strong smell of fried food which I found particularly off putting.
