This Monster was angry when I showed up to my surgery 20 minutes late because it was across the bay an hour away from his office. He repaid me by stabbing my quad with a big fat needle atrophying my muscle before I was even knocked out! He then drilled a big fat hole I'm My bone and the cadaver tendon he used snapped before I even took the bandages off. I went back to my next appointment telling him something is wrong. He walked out of The room. A nurse came in and said ok Dr. king said everything is good. I canceled all post ops, went to a surgeon in San Francisco and had two More surgeries to repair the damage he caused. I still have permanent damage to my quad. Karma will find you Sir. I chose Dr. King because he provides medical care for the Oakland Raiders and many other athletes. Because of my hamstring injury (lots of pain) water skiing, he saw me urgently. He showed empathy and explained the diagnosis. I was grateful that his conclusion was that surgery was not needed. He prescribed PT. Also, his staff was vigilant in expediting MRI's with an out of network imaging company. Friendly, empathetic and concise. I highly recommend Dr. King and his staff! read more

I am somewhat amazed and amused to see 3.5 stars rating for this doctor. Dr. King is a great surgeon. I did a lot of research before coming to him with my serious shoulder injury, and he is one of the best shoulder doctors in Bay Area. 3 years ago I had level 5(completely torn) shoulder separation. Basicaly my shoulder was completely busted, I couldn't lift my arm above waist, was in extremely strong pain. Dr King did reconstructive surgery on it. It went great. After 6 month of followup intense PT the shoulder is 100% fixed, I can do rockclimbing, volleybal, pullups etc with no pain or any limitations issues whatsoever. To be completely fair, the only small thing I didnt like about dr King experience is that he did seem a little bit in hurry during my appointment, although he did answer all my (numerious ) questions. But he did such an amazing job as a surgeon and completely saved my shoulder, that frankly I couldn't care less. Guys, a bit of advice - when evaluating doctor based upon yelp reviews, you really need to read them, not just look at the star rating, if you want to get a real picture. There are tons of emm.... not very smart people, to put ot mildly, on Yelp who often can give an awesome doctor 1 star review because they didnt like a receptionist in their office, or some other petty and non-medical BS. Don't allow their mistake and loss to become yours, read about actual treatment and results, not about how they ( oh horror!) had to wait for 15 minutes before an appointment. read more

I'm about four years late on this one. I went to Dr. King for knee surgery (meniscus) about 4 years ago (2003). I was unimpressed by the amount of time he spent with me. I also unimpressed with his brush off of an issue I was having with my hip at the time before surgery. He claimed it was a simple case of hip bursitis and gave me a shot of cortisone. Net net - 3 years later I still have issues with knee and hip. Simple solutions like using a knife and needle I'm sure work sometimes, but usually there is a cause and I didn't feel like that was on Dr. King's mind during the entire treatment. read more

It's taken me about two months to cool down enough after my frustration with my visit with Dr. King to write a reasoned review. So here goes: My brief (3 minute) experience with Dr. King left me with the distinct impression that he views all patients as solely requiring an answer to the question, "Do I need surgery?" Let's run some facts: He runs the "sports medicine" clinic. I'm going to ballpark it here, but I'm going to say that about 99% of all sports medicine injuries do not require surgery. What are the 99% of us to do after he makes his negative proclamation? (BTW, I knew I didn't need surgery, so that's a bust.) And also, I'm sure you have near telepathic, preternatural mad skills Dr. King, but a brief internal rotation, shoulder abduction strength test (part of the rotator cuff exam) without even laying eyes or hands on my shoulder does not a valid physical exam make. Especially when I came in with a diagnosis of AC JOINT SEPARATION. Yes I probably also have a rotator cuff injury, but please EVALUATE ME. Also, saying, "come back in 8 weeks if it's not 90% better" does not absolve you from the responsibility of fully evaluating my shoulder and giving me SOME DIRECTION about how to take care of it. Should I sling it? Because I CAN'T MOVE IT. Should I ice it? How about NSAIDs? WHAT ABOUT PHYSICAL THERAPY? Ok I'm getting myself worked up again. So in conclusion, if you would prefer to do only surgery and clinic directly related to surgery, that's fine, I get it, you went into surgery, but let me offer a suggestion: run a surgery clinic. Or if your clinic is a surgery clinic in disguise, please kindly undisguise it. read more

I was told to go to Dr King because he is the doctor for bay area pro athletes. He has countless signed photos all over his walls. Too bad I'm not a pro athlete because he might have treated me better. Had surgery for shoulder impingement. He was 2 1/2 hours late the nurse apologized said that he forgot he had booked my surgery. I had a follow up appointment 4 months later my shoulder still felt inflamed and stiff. He shot me up with cortisone. Went back 10 months later shoulder still felt terrible and I had acquired excruciating back pain that I think is related. He hardly spent any time with me, gave a half ass evaluation. Apologized but told me there's nothing he can do. Walked out of the room without shaking my hand or a goodbye. Atrociously rude, uncaring doctor. Maybe he would try harder if I was rich and famous. read more

I'm happy for those five star review patients for getting relief but I'm definitely a ZERO star person and I wouldn't recommend this physician to an enemy. I'm a fairly serious athlete (def. not NFL level) and struggled w/ a knee tendon/ligament issue for a few years and finally went to the Raiders doc on a recommendation. Warren King projects total confidence. With the autographed pictures and his deep voice assuring me I would be in good hands -- I signed up and went under the knife. He said I'd be back to all of my normal activities in short time and that he was surprised I had waited so long for such a simple/successful procedure. I did my physical therapy etc. but got no relief whatsoever from his surgery. 4-5-6 months post op and there was no chance of returning to my work or sport so I booked a follow up to see what went wrong/what we could try next and Dr. King said "there's nothing more to do, this is how it's going to be". Bye. That was it. He just hustled to his next patient and washed his hands of me. I will say that my experience with his assistant Laurel was pretty positive compared to others commenting here but obviously there was nothing she could do. She did say, "I'm so sorry". If you can EVER avoid surgery you avoid surgery. Infections are possible, your problem could be made worse, it increases the chance of developing arthritic conditions later on in life once you enter a joint capsule and alter things. So far I haven't experienced that but time will tell. I had my hopes inflated by King, spent a bunch of money, had the pain and hassle of recovery and did not improve in the slightest. I wish I could rewind time and avoid this guy entirely. read more

This place is a joke. I drive down a crowded ramp into the parking garage hoping I'm at the right place (there's no addr. visible from the street). A woman directing traffic points me to a small parking space in front (I'm on my motorcycle). I go into the main lobby and there's no directory of doctors. I go stand in front of two women who are 'volunteers' there to assist lost patients. They continue to talk w/each other until I interrupt them. "Dr. King's office?" "Go upstairs, they will direct you" Upstairs: "Here to see Dr. King....where can I find him?" "Go out those doors, follow the path down until you see the bicycles, then make a right and go straight to the Clark Building." Get to the Clark building where there IS a directory (sorted by first name, which I did not have). Get up to the third floor--and they direct me down to the first to fill out some paperwork. FUCK! Uhh, good thing my knee doesn't really hurt because I'm being sent all over the fucking place. I fill out the paperwork. The girl working there was highly unpleasant. I go back upstairs and receive more forms. I fill them out and am told that the Dr. is running 45 min. late. I ask if I can reschedule. The nice girl says, "he's always 45 minutes late". I leave. So now whoever designed this campus was a retard. And whoever waits 45 min. for a doctor that's always late is an idiot. I'm glad I left. read more

As good as he might be at surgery (and it doesn't seem like many people could actually say with any authority that a surgeon's great as how many people get comparable surgeries by multiple surgeons?), I can't help but be furious at how fucking expensive this shit can be. I know it's not limited to Dr. King's office, but that's where I went so that's where I'm going to direct this at. $850 (after insurance discounts) to go in, talk with him for about 3 minutes, go across the hall to get an xray (10 minutes, $130), come back, talk to him about the xray for another 2-3 minutes, have him give me a cortisone shot in the shoulder (maybe 2 minutes, $132), sit around for 10 minutes while he goes off to deal with another patient, then talk to him about how my shoulder's feeling for another 2 minutes. If you're keeping track, that's 10 minutes with Doc King total, and $262 for the xray and shot. So $588 for 10 minutes of his time!!! WTF?!? Dude's making $3500/hour! I know some of it goes to other staff and for me sitting around in the waiting room but FUCK! Crazy shit. On my bill, the $588 was divided up into $283 for the "visit", and $305 for "surgery". I called them, assuming that was an error, as I didn't think anything that occurred during my time there qualified as "surgery", and the injection was already separately itemized for $132. But apparently $132 was just for the shot contents, while $305 was for the action of inserting the needle into my shoulder. With all the shit going on about how we need to fix the health care system and improve the health insurance industry, I can't believe that I haven't heard anyone say that the root of the problem is that shit costs like 10-100 times more than it should. I could see paying $100 to go in, take up 10 minutes of the doc's time, and get a cortisone shot. Not $850. I could see a doc making $100-200/hour (although in the approx 40-50 office visits I've had in my life, there have been maybe 2 where the doctor actually did something that seemed to require a remote amount of expertise). After having several people rave about Dr. King, I made an appointment to see him for my first flare up of wrist tendinitis. He was inattentive and became uninterested once it was obvious I would not need surgery. He pushed me to claim worker's comp which I did and ended up being one of the worst decisions of my life. My pain was so severe that I could not sleep, I could not hold a cup, could not do my job, etc, etc. He sent me to a fantastic physical therapy place, unfortunately Worker's Comp refused to cover the treatment at the time so when I went back for my follow up with Dr. King he treated me like I was the problem, not my wrists. He didn't understand why I was still in pain even though I had received no treatment and he told me that "Pain is not a good enough reason to not be able to work." Rather than being attentive to his patient (me), he answered his cellphone while he was in the room with me, setting up a time to give some athlete an injection. He was non-responsive and dismissive to my inquiries and concerns. His opinion of my injury has stuck with me for the past four years, blocking my route to treatment so that my temporary injury has become permanent. No matter what all the other doctor's have said, Dr. Kings opinion of RSI as expressed in his notes has been inescapable. I have no doubt that he is a great surgeon as the people I know who saw him needed surgery. It was clear cut for them and they got great results. But I would say to stay very far away from this guy if you aren't positive you need surgery and/or want an attentive doctor. read more

I went to Warren King on the recommendation of my PcP, who's in an independent practice. I saw him for both horrible shoulder pain and horrible pain around my big toe. For my big toe I was told "don't wear heels or anything that constricts the movement of the toe" - never told why. Considering that didn't do any good, I went to a different doctor later and got an actual diagnosis. King had figured out the problem - he just didn't communicate it with me. And what he told me was not exactly what I needed to do to fix it. My shoulder... he was convinced that I had one specific problem, even though his treatment for it was going nowhere. He wanted me to have surgery for this non-existent issue; thankfully I took my MRI to Michael Wall at SOAR who looked at it, pointed to where the problem really was based on my pain, and who actually managed to fix my shoulder. If I'd gone through with the surgery that King wanted, I would have added the unnecessary pain & grief of surgery on top of my other problem. And I would have still needed surgery to fix the other problem. I also saw his PA about referral pain from my back that was lodging in my hip. She insisted that I had hip bursitis, and gave me a scrip to do PT at PAMF. That's the only good thing that came out of all of this, because Ed Schiavone in their PT department is awesome. He took one look at me, figured out that it was referral pain from my back, and worked with me to fix it. He even modified the exercises so I didn't have to strain my shoulder. Just wish it hadn't taken dealing with King to have found Ed. read more

Dr King may well be a fantastic Doctor. However, it is difficult to tell when you wait for 2 hours then see him for 5 minutes. I went to him twice for a issue I was having in the bone of my ankle. First time he said wait and see if it got better then come back. The 2nd time I had to wait 2 hours for him to say what I already knew, I needed surgery. I've been to a lot of Doctors appointments but this was one of the worst. It seemed like he could care less. Afterwards I decided to find another Doctor who specialized in foot and ankles. Best decision I've made, after having surgery my ankle is completely healed. When I told my new Doctor that Dr. King told me to wait and see if it got better he smirked and said it doesn't get better it can only get worse. Glad I waited for nothing. read more

Dr. Warren King is a great surgeon. I am shocked that people give bad reviews based on parking issues and long waits. Anyhow, I have been seeing Dr. King for a year now for a shoulder injury. When I first saw him he asked how I felt about surgery, I told him I wanted to take a conservative approach and that's just what we did. I did physical therapy and waited it out for about a year, however, at the end of that time I elected to have surgery as the pain was still unbearable. He performed the surgery (labrum tear repair, debridement, and re-stabilization) and was very pleasant and professional, coming to check on me twice while I was in recovery. All in all, I have never found Dr. King , his assistants, the office and the surgery center to be anything but top notch. I would recommend him to anyone who is in need of a good surgeon. As for parking and long waits, it happens, but don't let minor bad things such as those taint your opinion of a good doctor. read more

I am not even taking tylenol. I am sure the anaesthesia is already worn out by this time.... Great procedure... My Father was injured at work in 2009. This ended up in hastening our homeless stint, injury + layoff. He was allowed to see Dr. King for his surgery under the workman's comp policy, recovery and follow up. My father's laptop strap had slid off his shoulder taking his arm with it causing my Father's arm to completely detach from the socket. He had to have surgery and following it rehabilitation. Approx 5 months recovery time. We are so thankful that Dr King was able to make the repairs to his arm. His bedside manner may be very quick and he never explained much, but the job got done well and my father has recovered extremely well. For a workman's comp surgery, we were very impressed and grateful that he was in excellent hands. Though a bit feeling like we were always wondering what was done and had happened. We attribute much of that dazed and confused feeling to the shock that the injury caused to family's entire life. If we were to seek his service again I think my father would take the time to ask more questions and demand explanations. I just had a torn meniscus repair and general cleanup of my knee done by Dr. King. He did a superb job. No pain killers needed. Very little swelling. Will be back on the bike a week after surgery. All through the process I felt well informed, in control of the options available. Quite apart from being a great surgeon, Dr. King is friendly, down-to-earth and obviously very knowledgeable. I went to Dr. King for my ACL-reconstruction surgery. If you want an expert and very professional surgeon, I highly recommend him. He is intelligent, good at explaining the entire process, and very prompt with both appointments and surgery. He is not for everybody, however. You can tell he is accustomed to professional athletes. He and his office will not baby you through the process. Preparations for surgery (e.g., pre-surgery exercise) and rehabilitation afterward are entirely the responsibility of the patient. I think my experience was so fluid because I went into his office knowing that I needed a surgeon (diagnosis was done elsewhere). And a world-class surgeon I got. But if you are not an athlete or don't have access to fantastic physical therapists/athletic trainers, don't expect his office to guide you through the entire rehabilitation process. read more

I saw Dr. King a year after I got an ACL replacement and meniscus repair surgery which was done by a different surgeon. I went to this doctor upon my physical therapist's suggestion because I was experiencing pain in my knee. Dr. King hardly listened to me, took a quick look at my MRI and my knee and said I have to get another surgery and get a new ACL graft and there is more meniscus to repair. His PA, Lauren, tried to explain to him what I was trying to tell him because she actually listened to what I said. He snapped at her which was unprofessional and plain wrong since she actually understood what I said. Anyway, Dr. King freaked me out about my knee and I decided never to see him again. He might be a smart and accomplished doctor but doesn't have good bedside manners and clearly doesn't treat his coworkers with respect either. read more

Dr King repaired my torn rotator cuff. The other reviews here are spot on with regard to his hurried and impersonal manner. As hurried as he is, he is a very good surgeon. My surgery was supposed to take 15 minutes but ended up taking over an hour due to additional a torn tendon and collar bone problems that where found when he got in there. Best that he fixed all of it while he was under the hood. I wouldn't consider him to be my friend and doubt that he would ever say hello or wave to me if I lived in the house next door to him, but I would be pleased to have him as my surgeon again. read more

I had a referral from urgent care to see Dr. King, while the initial visit was short, he and his staff were pleasant and helpful. They worked well with my schedule to make appointments and were timely in returning phone calls. Before my acl surgery Dr. King met with in the prep area and assured me that evevrything was going to be ok... Here we are nearly 3 weeks later and I am very close to walking on my own. Yes Dr.King is the team doctor for 2 pro teams and 1 college team so seeing him more than once is difficult, but the entire staff are all on the same page. They do get very busy, but you will not regret waiting... (bring a book and they have reliable wifi)... Please give them a fair chance before you get upset. read more

I had a painful fell during ski about 10 days ago. The ski resort Doctor couldn't diagnose my injury, and sent me home. I booked an earliest appt at Palo Alto Medical Foundation and was scheduled with Dr Warren King. His physician assistant diagnosed me with torn ACL and MCL within a minute of touch. And MRI was ordered right away to confirm it. I had my ACL reconstruction surgery yesterday morning was Dr King. The cuts were so neat! I have watched a lot of YouTube ACL recovery video and by far, my cuts are truly the neatest. I highly recommend dr King and his team, they are very warm and sweet and gentle people! I read a few emails about Dr. King and felt the need to POST. I had a fall injury during Oct '11 that required a partial meniscus removal. So I'm going to do some further Doctor Grading here: Bedside manner = A++ Nurses who assist him = A++++ Prioritizing = A+++ Rescheduling Surgery (in advance) = B- When my prior Doc said I required knee surgery I sought out a second opinion and found Dr. King through a dear friend who used him 2x with GR8 success on her ankles. I did end up being rescheduled 5X (1X me and 4X Dr. King) and it might have had something to do with NFL Season!? LOL I realized (after viewing PICS in his ofc) that there probably higher priorities than me. Dont get me wrong at that time I was frustrated and 2 reschedules from the Surgery Center in Fremont were due to "safety precautions." My pre-op tests did not pan out! Dr. King likes to be safe when it comes to his patients vs. kill them.... I agreed! LOL I'm glad I waited as POST OP = Knee operates at conditions that are conducive to being back to normal in the FORESEEABLE FUTURE. And I have much less pain today Vs. PRE OP. IMPORTANT NOTE: When there is only one of you and several thousand patients you have to make some priority choices. Sometimes when you see the "best of the best" you have to have some patience! UPDATES: 14MAR12; Knee utilization @ 50% Whoohoo! Okay so I still cant work out for 4 hrs every other day on my legs... and progress is happening. This review is longtime coming. Dr. King first operated on my knees (practical meniscectomy) on right knee in late 1990's then again in the early 2000's, and again in 2011. I thought at the time and still do that Dr. King was and still is the best in his field. Taking the time during the operation and after that I was fully comfortable the operation and my rehab. I pretty much during this time was able to get fully acquainted with his staff and himself. All professionals in their field and devoted to helping patients recover and get back to their lives. Sorry that Julie W. had such a difficult time with her procedures, but I found the Fremont center one of the best I've been in, and I've been in a few in my days. horrible doctor, doesn't care about his patient's wellbeing, he only cares about their money. I saw him for a wrist injury back in 2014, he didn't even listen to half of the things I told him, left, came back with a piece of paper with exercises on it and walked away. without going into too many details, he told me that my injury was just a regular sprain, in reality, it's a TFCC injury, a lot more serious than a simple sprain he made it out to seem. if he had cared, taken his time to check my wrists properly and put my wrist in a cast as I asked him during the appointment back then I wouldn't be still injured right bow and wouldn't have 6+ years of my life ruined. For me there are three important attributes with regard to the choice of an orthopedic surgeon. One is that he/she has done a lot of procedures, which is clearly the case with Dr. King. Study after study shows that experience really counts when it comes to surgical procedures. Second is that he/she not just opt for surgery as the default. A friend who went in for a fracture and torn ACL was surprised when Dr. King did not recommend surgery. He opined to Dr. King that that this seemed like conservative medicine, to which King replied, "no, just good medicine." I think that may be the what puts off some patients, but I regard this as one of his best attributes. He will absolutely tell you what his professional experience dictates will produce the best outcome. In my case I had expected he would opt for physical therapy, so I was surprised when he went straight to the surgical option. He was of course 100% correct, because once the MRI was shown to me, it was clear why surgery really was the best medicine for my torn meniscus. Finally, you want a surgeon with a great support staff, and Dr. King's is the best I've ever encountered, from the PA who clearly and patiently explained the MRI, to the office manager who worked magic with all the scheduling, after I explained how difficult it was for me to get to their facility. It was synchronized perfection. Needless to say, my surgery went perfectly. I was in less pain the night after the surgery than I was just a few days before the surgery. read more

Having recently had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff by Dr. King I cannot thank him enough for the great job that he did and would not hesitate to recommend Dr. King to anyone who is in need of seeing an Orthopaedic Specialist. Dr. King is truly one of the best Orthopedic Surgeons there is. His professionalism goes above and beyond. Each visit prior to the surgery being performed, Dr. King took the time to thourghly explain the MRI findings, options that I had, surgery process, the recovery and Physical Therapy required. On the day of the surgery he once again described in detail the surgery and what it would entail. Dr. King has always been very patient and compasionate in listening to any and all of the questions that I have had and responding in the same manner. Not once throughout the process did I once ever feel rushed or not feel important. Dr. King's Physician Assistant, Laurel, is excellent, she is extremely knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things to you in that is understandable and insightful. The staff at the Palo Alto office and the Surgery Center were very helpful and professional. The follow-up phone calls after the surgery were very much appreciated as well. read more

I thought Dr. King did a great job with my partial meniscectomy. I have family members who work in hospitals and they told me that NPs do a lot of the work, while the doctor does the surgery itself. Had I not known this and had different expectations, I would have felt differently about my experience. I was afraid that the NP's diagnosis would be final, but Dr. King came in and did some movement tests. That made me feel much better. I wish he would have given me better surgery after-care instructions, like to do ankle pumps, quad sets, or ROM exercises. My sister, who is a physical therapist, suggested that I do those exercises. I went to an orthopedic doctor at Stanford to have him assess the cause of my shoulder pain and treat it. He ordered an x-ray, not an MRI, and diagnosed the problem as a sprain. At least twice I asked him directly and clearly if he thought that I had a rotator cuff tear, to which he replied, dismissively, no. He gave me an injection which he said would treat the pain and most likely resolve the problem. The shot did not lessen the pain nor did it fix whatever was causing it, but since the diagnosis determined that the pain was not caused by a rotator cuff tear, which I most feared, I endured it. When that was no longer possible, fortunately I had the good sense to make an appointment to see Dr. Warren King. Dr. King was gracious, engaged, and careful in inquiring about the pain and testing my arm strength in various ways to assess the cause. Then he said "Let's get an MRI and take a look at it". It turns out that I have a rotator cuff tear and ruptured tendon. Make no mistake, go directly to Dr. King for diagnosis and treatment. You will not find his expertise, skill, and good care elsewhere. read more

Okay, here goes.... Dr. King was highly recommended to me by someone who knew and dealt with him personally for a long time. Thus, I trusted him to take care of me and repair my ruptured Achilles tendon. On the brief pre-op visit he was nice enough, but spent about 2 minutes with me, which I didn't mind at the time because it was a straight forward diagnosis, and surgery was the only answer. At the surgery center, he had 2 operating rooms going at once, so while I was getting my repair, another girl was waiting in the other operating room for a knee repair. I was the 2nd to last surgery that day at around 6pm. He did non-stop surgeries from about noon till around 7:30p. He had to be exhausted. Looking back, I think he might have felt a little rushed with me because the other girl was waiting, and maybe that's why he didn't give me a strong repair that would last. Fast forward to 3 months post-op, he was unavailable to examine me, but had told his nurse practitioner to tell me that I should be 100%. I wasn't even close as I was still limping pretty bad and still had pain and was unable to push off with my toes on exercises at all. Angry at this encounter, I demanded an explanation from him over the phone. He told me he didn't have time for this kind of conversation, and that he had people playing basketball at 3 months (btw, this injury takes about 8 months---look at David Beckham's prognosis). Fast forward again, I see a new doctor, who within minutes of looking at my foot, tells me that my repair has failed because it was not a good, strong repair, and that I would need another surgery. A follow-up MRI confirmed that I had a partial re-rupture. This has been a nightmare to say the least. So, my final analysis of Dr. King is that he is a nice enough guy, but I think he is all about cramming in as many surgeries as possible. He doesn't like to really deal with the patient while they are not sedated, he is over-worked, and he doesn't treat the individual patient (you are just a piece of meat who should be responding according to his statistics). His lack of time spent in the examining room is absolutely indicative as to the way he performs his surgeries. Steer clear. He may have been great 15 years ago, but not anymore. If I could give him no stars I would. He performed ACL and meniscus surgery on my Mom for workman's comp. The office was not friendly, he was always late and his physician's assistant was abrupt and not very helpful. But most importantly, Dr. King did not spend very much time and was quick to jump to surgery. He runs a surgery center in Fremont so I don't think he has the patient's best interest in mind. He actually seemed happy to announce that surgery was the answer; which he suggested twice by the way. The first surgery ended up not being necessary since we opted for the "wait and see" approach. To make things worse, he did not fully diagnose her injury. So first he discovered a fracture and sprained ankle only to discover 3 months later that she needed knee surgery. Needless to say, my Mom 1+ years later still has issues with her knee and still trying to adjust to a likely permanent outcome. Dr. King has no bedside manner, a lack of care and interest in his patients (he may be different if you're a highly paid athlete though but still a costly risk I think...). And if that wasn't enough, he was not timely in filling out insurance paperwork and answering follow up questions. read more

Some of the (bad) reviews I'm reading-simply don't make sense! After dealing with two ortho surgeons where I live (Southern California) for a knee injury, I traveled to Palo Alto for a third opinion. Dr. King and staff were really kind. I'd had disagreements with both of the previous orthos I saw-(if it can't be seen on the MRI, it doesn't exist) and I'd been suffering for nearly a year. Dr. King examined my knee and recommended an exploratory procedure. And guess what? Several tears in my meniscus that did not show up on MRI...several other issues as well. It's been exactly a week since my surgery. While I'm still in pain from the repairs that had to be done, it's already easier-and less painful to bear weight on the injured knee. I couldn't be happier. The surgical staff at Fremont Surgery Center was absolutely TOP NOTCH! Thanks Dr. King, the 400 mile drive was TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!! read more

Dear Yelp, It is really interesting how you remove certain reviews...This is the third of my reviews that has been removed. Two were negative and one was positive. This one is negative and I will repost for the rest of my life if it means that even one person can avoid this doctor. I agree with all the criticisms that have already been written...I was kept waiting for my ortho knee surgery for four hours (while fasting-finding a vein for the IV was problematic since I hadn't been able to drink). But what was worse is that this procedure didn't have anything to do with my ailment, which turned out to by a cyst that was completely out of range from this procedure...Dr. King did not have the time for diagnostics. In my experience, he perceives surgery as a diagnostic tool. It took three years of living in intolerable pain (the cycst was up against the nerve bundle. Until I found the doctor that diagnosed the cycst and successfully removed it. I was forewarned about this doctor and his reputation for performing useless surgeries, but I didn't listen. Just as I probably would take this advice with a grain of salt. If you don't have a really interesting injury, or a bank of agents and attorneys, I would suggest that you move over to Stanford... read more
