I didn't happen to smell that on my two trips on my southern sojourn but I believe it offends nostrils at times. I did see a homeless person who I tried not to disturb as well. That's life in a big city though. The Ann Arbor graffiti alley back home sometimes gets the homeless and sometimes you might smell piss there, especially in one certain spot. I'd venture to say you'd get both those things with or without graffiti and the stream of artists and onlookers might even have some looking for bushes nearby instead of relieving themselves here. I spotted lots of young people going to and from bars on a weekend night. I'm sure lots of weed is smoked here and tons of pictures are taken. How many pictures would be taken here without the graffiti? And right around the corner at one end is a massive wall stretching for I don't know how long covered with huge colorful murals for as far as I walked. So, hey, legal murals are represented, too and a nice primer on "graffiti vs. street art" is there for anyone to take in. This here tunnel probably keeps more than a few malcontents from tagging any of those murals. Local color aplenty here and it's constantly changing. I think I like it better than the Ann Arbor graffiti alley though my sample size here is admittedly small, just a couple nights in February 2026 as opposed to dozens of trips stretching over a few years in Ann Arbor.

This is a very life like statue of Civil Rights pioneer Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was…read morededicated in January 2021. You will find this wonderful statue in the median, overlooking Mercedes Benz Stadium, at the intersection of Northside Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The statue is the work of Basil Watson, whose works have honored John Lewis, Queen Elizabeth II, Usain Bolt. The bronze statue sits 12 feet tall and is perched on a 6 foot pedestal. The sculpture has an uncanny resemblance to MLK and depicts King releasing a dove from his right hand. The sculpture's artwork is nice, but the inscriptions on the base takes it to another level. The front of the base reads, "DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968 / Dedicated by the /CITY of ATLANTA / 2021 / "HOPE MOVING FORWARD" / Sculptor: BASIL WATSON". Additionally, the MLK QUOTES "HATE CANNOT DRIVE OUT HATE; ONLY LOVE CAN DO THAT", "DARKNESS CANNOT DRIVE OUT DARKNESS; ONLY LIGHT CAN DO THAT" and "IF YOU CAN'T FLY THEN RUN, IF YOU CAN'T RUN THEN WALK, IF YOU CAN'T WALK THEN CRAWL, BUT WHATEVER YOU DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD" (my favorite), are all inscribed on the base as well. There is some metered street parking available if you would like to check out this sculpture up close and personal. I can on an early weekend morning and had no issue getting a good look at the statue. If you are quick, and traffic is slow, you may be able to park near the statue, jump out and take a quick look. I really like this statue and it overlooking the Arena makes for a great photo. With that being said, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop at all. I was there less than 10 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

And if you don't go get it within 30 days it will be destroyed. Their system is very archaic and dysfunctional. They don't tell you that you have to take a picture, you're somehow just supposed to know this. Also, expect to spend at least $75-$100, which I think is very over priced. Just go somewhere else instead.

The butterfly tent area sounds amazing, but we were too early for the season. The gardens are set up for educational purposes for children, which is nice. The bad: some areas are in desperate need for weeding, Robert said a large group of volunteers were coming out this weekend to help with weeding. There were many poison oak plants and poison ivy plants in some areas where kids might roam, especially, or adults too. The trails could be marked better, even though maps were available at the main admissions shop and a couple on property. Generally, this seemed newer rather than well established, but it is on its way to a nice gardens area and even now is a great spot to spend a couple of hours or more in nature!

We took the tour last wknd, and enjoyed learning about the BeltLine project while driving through the Atlanta neighborhoods like Glenwood, Grant Park, Boulevard Crossing, Capital View, Peachtree Hills, etc. and some historic sites, too. Highlight of the tour was seeing the Bellwood Quarry which will be the centerpiece for the future Westside Reservoir Park - the largest park in Atlanta. I was amazed - not to the level like when I first saw the Grand Canyon - but almost, just b/c I never knew such a gem existed INSIDE Atlanta. In case you're wondering about the location, it's behind Marietta Blvd and right now it's fenced off to the public. They say the only way you can see it is taking this tour. Check out the photos - beautiful, right?! The BetlLine project is huge, and has the potential to transform Atlanta. They say it will ultimately connect 45 neighborhoods. I also learned that Atlanta is the one of the most underparked cities - we're at 3.8% whereas most cities are 10-15%. Check out the website to get more info on the project. The tour is a great way to spend your Friday or Saturday morning, and then grab some brunch afterwards :) They book fast and advanced reservations are required. Our tour guide was great and highly knowledgeable but she does talk non-stop. Three hrs is a long time and honestly, I did doze off a few times :) But seeing the Quarry was totally worth it, and I definitely learned a lot about Atlanta.

This was my case during the FYLA event that I attended. The shuttle that we boarded was comfortable and air-conditioned (for those worried about suffering through Atlanta summer temperatures or having to weather a rough ride). Our guide, Shanté (or Shauntay maybe?), was a doll, knew a lot about the project and the city as a whole. She seemed to be seasoned, as she spoke clearly and timed everything she said just right, as she stood with her back to the front, to face our group. I learned a lot and saw neighborhoods that I had never seen or heard of. The architecture of Atlanta is something to admire, as it is unique. I enjoyed seeing the Bellwood Quarry Reservoir (look at our photos, it is gorgeous) and the Old Fourth Ward Park. Now I am hoping that I can convince my landscape architect-in-training sister to join me for this tour. I was told to wait a couple months before going again, to get some new information. Keep in mind that the tours book to capacity at least a month in advance, to plan wisely (though our guide said that if you are really interested, show up and see if some people who have reserved dropped out the last minute--she said this happens quite frequently). If you want, take along some snacks. Just make sure to empty your bladder and any other organs that may need to be voided before arriving to the start point of the tour. The closest bathroom before taking off from the Inman Park MARTA station is at Dough Bakery and the staff restrict bathroom use to patrons. Don't judge me for getting a grapefruit scone so that I could relieve myself. You will make a stop a little bit before the halfway point of the tour at a Kroger (is this murder Kroger? I'm unsure), where you can pick up nourishment and use the facilities. But it can be an uncomfortable first hour or so, if you are thinking you can just hold it. Okay, let's move past the bathroom thing... You should learn more about the A, its history, its neighborhoods, and the progress of the BeltLine. This tour will help you do all those things in a span of just 180 minutes, give or take.

But there's a lagniappe that the Botanical garden doesn't even mention. Memberships at he Atlanta Botanical Gardens gives reciprocal membership in 350+ gardens around the US and Canada. But was I ever surprised to discover that it includes the Atlanta History Center. We were there Saturday and saved $29 each by belonging to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. I don't know about y'all, but I think that free is a very good price.

They have scheduled tours that take you through the history and evolution of the drink, its concoction and introduction around the world, as well as its ingredients and flavor notes. The museum also has a tasting room and a gift shop. It's a great place for both adults and kids, and the overall tour was extremely informative and fun. The tasting room had more than 25 flavors of Coca-Cola from around the world. While it was fun to try them all, this was also the most chaotic and busiest room in the museum. The floor was sticky with Coca-Cola that had been spilled at some point, although who knows when! The museum itself can get a little too busy. The gift shop is nice, with plenty of Coca-Cola-themed merchandise, including cutlery, dishes, plush toys, and more. I picked up a couple of magnets.

I needed to see something Atlanta. Who knows the next time I will be back to this city and have time to see things. I have to say, I had no idea that this was not the original location of this museum. Relocated to this site in 2007, so I cannot compare this to the original location. I will say, it was most likely a good idea for them to get a bigger location. I am going to preface this by saying that I am not a big Coke fan. Haven't had on in years. Then why did I come here? Because I am a consumer of culture and history. Coke has a huge connection to pop culture over the years and you cannot deny the fact that this is a powerhouse of a company. Starting out here, they suggest that you get tickets ahead of time. However, not totally necessary, you can buy them on site. Quick security check and you are ushered inside. The first thing you do when you come in here is the Coca-Cola Theater for a presentation. While waiting for the theater opening up you will have an emcee keeping your attention and dropping some facts about the museum and some trivia questions. Also, you will get some suggestions on what to do, which exhibits to see fully, and what things to taste. After the theater, which can be moving and shows the connection we all have to one another, you are set free to explore whichever way you want to go. There are many exhibits and interactive areas to partake in. The list of exhibits: The Stores, Coca-Cola Stories, Icons, Beverage Lab, Taste It!, Scent Discovery, The Loft, and Polar Bear (photo op with the polar bear mascot). The pop culture portions of this museum really drew me in. Icons and The Loft really stick out. This is pop culture overload and takes you back to a certain year. You'll see something and be transported to whatever year that item may have debuted. From old cans to basketballs; motorcycles to speakers; and Santa to the polar bear. Big signs that are lit up show you exactly how things were displayed in yesteryear. Do be sure to visit the Vault. Where they hold the original recipe behind a mammoth wall of metal. This safe is huge which sits inside the vault. Don't get too near it, do not touch it, do not breathe on it. Just stand back and admire it. Another stand out is Taste It! Where you get to sample as much sodas from around the world. You get to take a sip of what is popular in any given country. There are some that are delicious and then there are some that just leave a bad taste in your mouth, I'm looking at you Italy and China (like seriously, how did you make a soda that tastes almost like barbecue sauce?). Stand out to me were the watermelon flavored one and the cucumber flavored Sprite. Don't knock anything until you have at least tried it. Of course, the end is the gift shop. Make sure to check everything over here and grab what you want. Make it to the register and they will ask if you want to purchase a mystery gift. It can be a discontinued item or something rare. I got a mini wireless speaker.
