A pretty decent and inexpensive sushi spot. I discovered this place because they kept plastering my car with their lunch menus. Literally, I think one landed on my car 3-4 days in a row at one point. I work pretty close, and I DO love sushi, so I thought I'd give it a shot. It turns out, it was worth the try! The menu is very standard stuff. I don't think I saw anything on there that I've not seen before. But what I've tried was pretty darn good, and very reasonably priced. For lunch, I've not yet been able to finish my plate. Miso soup, a salad, several pieces of nigiri. and two maki-style rolls, and I think I was under $10. I am a little worried as to the longevity of the place, though. Granted, I've only been there for lunch, but it always seems to be empty. I've been there several times and enjoyed myself each time, so I hope it sticks around, but I wonder if there was a reason my car was constantly covered in their menus. read more

Very disappointed. My mom ordered through DoorDash, and got a volcano roll, soft shell crab, and some other things. Only the toppings of the volcano roll came, the roll itself didn't, and the soft shell crab was cold, tough, hard, and the sauce it came with was tasteless. It was like they threw old soft shell crab from the day before in a box for us. Terrible service and all around experience. I can't blame the girl serving us too much since she seemed like she was new. We entered the restaurant at 6pm on a Monday, had to wait over an hour just to get our order taken (group of 6), and it took another hour just to deliver my order. The beef teriyaki I ordered was cold (obviously not freshly made) and the lady (not our original server) was rude when handing me the plate. Our group decided it wasn't worth waiting any longer because we already spent 2 hours waiting and if my food was any indication it would not be worth the wait. So we all left around 8pm. read more

The external appearance of the restaurant made me a little unsure of what I was walking into--they have a sign warning you not to leave valuables in the car, which sort of sketched me out--but it turned out to be a good dining experience. I was the first customer to walk in once Wasabi opened for their dinner hours. The staff was very attentive and friendly as I waited for my friend to join me. Prior to our main course, they brought small salads and a tofu soups to our table. We like to take our time with the menu and they were happy to give us as much time as we needed to decide. Service was prompt, the menu had plenty of options, the food was well-prepared and the restaurant was quiet unlike some of the food joints I've visited in SA. Prices were pretty reasonable for sushi, but if you're looking to spend a little less, go during their happy hour. read more

Wasabi is *great* sushi in San Antonio. Nestled on the access road to I-10 between Wurzbach and Huebner lies this strange looking sushi oasis. It's in the same shopping center as Jason's Deli, and if you pass the Omni you've gone too far. I've eaten here literally every week since I've arrived in San Antonio. It's conveniently across the street from my employer, so it makes for easy to run out and enjoy a delicious lunch. The sushi chefs are always very friendly, and the service is always good. It's time to bring up what I bring up in every review of mine: Nuri's list of things you can do to sushi to make it suck! 1.) covering it with mayo and deep frying it 2.) cold flavorless rice Wasabi absolutely nails #2 -- the rice is always the proper temperature and is seasoned to perfection. They absolutely understand the preparation of this seemingly-for-everyone-else-in-SA insurmountable task of the creation of this critical piece of good sushi. The fish quality at Wasabi is great. I've never been disappointed, and I eat a variety of nigiri and maki. Where Wasabi can be a "choose your own adventure" is their rolls. If you like fusion rolls, turn to page 43. If you like traditional rolls, turn to page 38. If you don't like sushi rolls, turn to page 10. Page 10 An angry sushi chef pops out from behind a bush and stabs you with a chopstick. As the light slowly fades, you wish you would have kept your finger on the original decision page so you could cheat and go back. You die. Page 38 I'm a gigantic fan of a roll called a Futomaki. It literally translates to "fat roll" because there are so many ingredients on the inside. Egg, roasted tofu, cucumber, Japanese pickle, daikon, carrot, and crab all dance around like anime characters on acid in this long nori-covered tube of gullet-stuffing bliss. Page 43 I've never had them before, but there are always a ton of interesting looking fusion rolls coming from behind the counter. Some are deep fried, some have interesting sauces, but for the most part, they're just colorful. I'm not a fan of all those things going on in my sushi so I haven't ordered them, but they all seem to be expertly crafted works of art. The lunch special is an incredible $15 and contains 15 pieces of maki, 4 pieces of sushi, and miso soup. The rolls aren't super creative in the lunch special, but they're good. The futomaki isn't on the menu, but they'll make it for you if you ask. My other favorite is the "spicy tuna roll, no mayo" in which the chef cubes fresh tuna, mixes it lightly with spicy sauce, and adds cucumber to make a perfectly balanced STR. The friendly service along with the expertly crafted sushi make for a great meal at Wasbi. read more

GROSS GROSS GROSS!!!!!!! Okay get ready!! No matter how bad this review is, just keep reading.... it gets worse.... I liked the interior of this place. It looks like it use to be a TGIFridays or something of the like. The bar is now a sushi bar. The conversion was low budget. I sat down for a late lunch at the sushi bar. I was at first disturbed by the fact that at least 8 of the 14 seats at the bar were empty, but still dirty from people eating. But I sat down and waited for a menu. The menu has everything you would hope in a middle of the road sushi bar would have and then a little more. They brought me soup. it was typical. As I looked over the menu I noticed the only sushi chef, a young guy in a baseball hat. (I'm very funny about sushi). Its one of the few foods I was to see prepared. I was happy to be able to sit at the sushi bar here and have a great vantage point of the food prep. I was also VERY disturbed by what I saw. I noticed the young chef never washed his hands. I also kept noticing him wipe his runny nose with his thumb and finger then stick his hand into the rice. GROSS!!! I was ready to walk out right them but I had already ordered and I never walk out on a tab. So I kept watching and trying not to puke. 20 minutes later. I was still watching this disgusting show while waiting for the bill I had asked for 10 minutes earlier. The food came, I pushed it out of the way and asked for my bill again. The waiter finally brought me the bill, but never asked why I didn't want the food. I gave him a 100 dollar bill. another 10 minutes goes by. Then he brings change... And what do you know,... He shorted me $20. So I had to wait another 10 minutes for him to come up with the missing $20 . I tipped 0!! I've called the heath department in SA and informed them of my experience. I've been in a few times since my last review, so I figured it was time to update. Service here is always great! The food can be slow coming out; however, if you want good Asian food made with fresh ingredients, it's going to have to be made fresh for you and that means a slightly longer wait for your meal. I've never had anything that didn't come out delicious at Wasabi. Since our visits are always for lunch, the Bento Box special is my go-to order. One meat is plenty, and both chicken teriyaki or the bulgogi are good options. You'll get complimentary miso soup, vegetable tempura, a small side of sushi, salad, steamed rice, and your choice of meat. It's more food than one person can eat for $8-$9. My Yelp rating system: 5 stars= Driving across town just for this! 4 stars= I would recommend visiting. 3 stars= Average, acceptable, positive. 2 stars= You might be able to drag me in. 1 star= I will definitely not be returning. read more

I am from Austin and this place is capable enough of competing with Musashino in Austin but not quite on par with Uchi/ko. We've gone on a late night before heading out to the club so it was fairly empty with only 3-4 couples inside the restaurant. The interior looked really nice with a 3 tier setup so it was quite appealing to the eyes and something rather new than the usual flat establishment. The kind waiter sat us at the sushi bar and it was quite nice to see the chef prepare the sushi. A complimentary Miso soup was given to all 6 of us and it was warm and ok. We ordered, I believe, 7 rolls of Sushi and the total came out to be around $75. It was amazing. For the average quality of fish and decent sushi rice. It was well worth it. My favorite had got to be the Sashimi roll, Napa roll and Spicy Scallop. The other rolls that were ok: Dynasty roll, Crab roll, Lemon Zest roll and Unagi roll. Overall, I say it was a pleasant experience. Nothing went wrong. Nice quiet atmosphere. The chef interacted with us. Clean restroom as well. Highly recommend this place. Came in on a Saturday evening and wasn't too crowded. Greeted and was sat down right away. They were quick to ask what we wanted to drink. 2 servers pretty much took care of us the whole time we were there. I ordered a variety of rolls from masago and tako sushi to the spurs roll which might I say was really good. The baked salmon roll came out really good and was better than the salmon tempura roll. Wasn't too big on the crunch roll but overall everything came out better than I expected. Their drink specials were really good such as 3 dollars for hot sake. I'd say the prices are fair and the sushi was present well on sushi boats. Usually I see small plates but here they serve it all at once. 5 on presentation. Taste wise I've had better but this is better than what I expect from San Antonio when asian food is far and few between. There's parking in back by the way. read more

I tried Sushi Zushi (terrible and pricey), Killer Piranha in the Quarry, Sushihana, and Yellow Tail Sushi --- and this is the best in San Antonio. Staff: Not only are the staff VERY friendly (they always greet you with a smile, very attentive), but the food speaks for itself. Above and Beyond: When you arrive, you are either seated in a booth (very intimate) or the bar if you choose. They offer miso soup and/or green salad for free on top of any order. I've been here a few times in the past few years - including before becoming a vegetarian/vegan. This place is amazing in terms of value and the items taste great! For starters, the Miso soup that's complimentary is my favorite! :-) I've had the bento box before and it's a LOT of food! You can definitely have dinner from the leftovers! I've also had a few other rolls, including the "Sunset Roll" and each item has fresh seafood! On my most recent visit I had the "Vegan Roll" which consisted of vegetables wrapped in cucumber. You'd think this would taste bland...but no! it was amazing! :-) Yes, service can be a bit slow, but again, it's about slowing down and enjoying life, once in a while. :D read more

We must have caught Wasabi on a bad night... all the other Yelp reviews were positive... that's what led us here. My friend ordered the rice omelette while I opted for the chef's sushi special... a little lazy on my part... but how can you lose? Right? My friend's omelette was served about 20 minutes before my sushi. She was not impressed with this take on fried rice and said the veggies tasted canned. I do not want to be a sushi snob, but I invoke the forbidden word: frozen. Some of my nigiri and sashimi was still frozen... perhaps the reason for the long wait....
