Sushi rolls were good. However, they for sure could have been rolled tighter, they fell apart if we tried to use our chopsticks. Girl on Fire Sushi Roll was good, and cane out literally surrounded by flames. The roll on the was perfect. We had the Special Roll of the day which was a fried soft shell crab roll. We found this one difficult to eat in a bit with how large it was. But again if it had been rolled tighter it may have been better. Pretty good little sushi place located in Downtown Edwardsville. First time in forever that I went yo a sushi restaurant. The options on the menu seems at first overwhelming as they all seem the same with maybe a single difference from another one. Many different rolls to choose from. We split three different ones. All tasty and plentiful. We also started with appetizers. The pot stickers were good and fried a little crispy which I prefer over the soft, slimy texture. We also tried the squid salad. The was actually really good. The good portion of the salad was squid. Not sure what the waitress said the rest of the salad was but definitely not mixed greens. Event though it came in a smaller size bowl I felt it was still enough for two to share. The squid was not fried which is how I prefer it! The place is a little pricey. It is nothing spectacular and there is nothing special about it which is why I gave it 3 stars, but it is still a good place to eat if you are in the area and craving sushi. Wasabi still has good sushi, which my dining partners enjoyed. Unfortunately, for John H., certain other aspects of the experience were less than stellar for me. The symbol designating "gluten free or can be made gluten free" has disappeared from the sushi ordering menu, which meant extra time asking questions and getting answers. Why, in the name of Mizuchi, would a sushi place remove gluten-free notation from its menu? Don't they know all the celiacs and their friends rely on Wasabi as one of the more celiac-friendly dining establishments in this community? Well, without the gluten-free notation, and despite the server's assurances, the resulting order came back five minutes later with the server explanation that virtually everything she THOUGHT could be prepared gluten free, was, in fact, NOT available gluten free. Starting over, my patient and happy dining companions discussed their choices again. Our order was placed, but now about five tables behind prior position. So glad we started with wine, and so glad my house salad arrived after about 30 minutes, because it was 40+ minutes into this visit that my entree appeared. I had ordered spicy shrimp, but spicy chicken was placed in front of me. Now I had a choice: I could explain that this was not what I ordered, and wait another half hour, or I could just settle. I settled. But not happily. Still, I was better off than my dining companions, whose beautiful sushi serving platter was delivered, but without plates or gluten-free soy sauce. Nearly an hour to get these items on the table, but only then did the search begin. I say "search," because when the plates were placed before them, the server explained the GF soy sauce was hiding. Eventually, it was found (tip: ask your server to look in the refrigerator). I looked around, wondering if there's something wrong with me, or something wrong with Wasabi. I saw four busy sushi chefs, which looked about right. I saw one or two others working back in the kitchen. I saw several servers running to and fro, and one hostess, trying help out, but rather timidly. These folks looked like they needed a leader to help them work together effectively and efficiently. But I may just be fantasizing, as I often do, when, at the end of a long week, and waiting too long for food, I enter the world of hunger-induced hallucination. read more

The sushi is outstanding! I went with a group of friends on a Tuesday, and they had rolls for only $7! Our waitress was very nice and gave great service. The only complaint that I had was that our rolls were all on one plate, so it was really hard to eat, and we had to separate them all onto smaller plates; I wish they would serve on individual plates for each roll. While many from the area are ride or die for Wasabi Sushi, I've definitely had better sushi out there. The sushi was actually decent, but the service was a huge turn off for me hence the low rating. We came here for a friend's birthday with about 12 people. The dining room itself is pretty tiny so accommodating a group our size was a bit difficult. There is additional outdoor seating as well. If you're not sure what to order, I'd recommend going in a larger group so you can try out different types of rolls and figure out what you really like. Some of the rolls I remember us ordering included: -Playboy roll (Shrimp Tempura & Spicy Tuna Roll, topped with Salmon & Avocado) -Fox roll (Shrimp Tempura & Cucumber, topped with Avocado & Crunch) -Kamikaze roll (Spicy Tuna, Crab, Avocado Roll, Deep Fried, Served with Ponzu) -Geisha roll (Tuna, Yellowtail, Smoked Eel, Cucumber, Wasabi Tobiko) -Wasabi Special (California Roll, Spicy Crunch, Chili Mayo) Like I stated earlier, the rolls were fine, but the major issue I had was with the service. The first mistake was to put all of the maki rolls together in a single boat for all 12 people which made it difficult for people at one end of the table to grab the rolls they ordered. Furthermore, the server failed to tell everyone which rolls they ordered which left us to differentiate between the rolls on our own. He wasn't attentive and didn't do the best job of checking in on us to make sure everything was okay. I get that we were a larger group with only one server, but it was disappointing nonetheless. I used to love wasabi but my last experience has me questioning giving them another chance. I came in to order takeout on a Fri night. The hostess was very obviously stressed and overwhelmed with phone calls, people trying to get tables, and handling takeout orders. I got the feeling she was on the verge of jumping out the window and running away :) and she kept having to tell people there'd be a 20 min wait, even though several tables were empty and everyone seemed confused. I ordered the playgirl and Shogun. Playgirl was great but the Shogun was way too fishy, tasted like the fish eggs had gone bad, I would have returned the order but I was already home with 2 small children, so I emailed. No response. I'm not sure where to start, but here goes. On a positive note we came in with a group of 5 and were quickly greeted and seated in a very clean facility. We ordered drinks and appetizers which were very, very slow to arrive. It also took around 15 minutes for the staff to take our main course order which was also very slow arriving. Those in our group that order sushi were pleased, but those of us with plate entrees found the meat( chicken and beef) very chewy and of poor quality. Drink refills were slow in coming though the restaurant was only half full of patrons. Upon receiving our bill one of my greatest pet peeves was you pay at the table and the restaurant tip calculation is based on the gross amount. Most quality restaurants never calculate the tip on the tax. I think is either a mistake by the facility or a underhanded way to squeeze a tad more money out of you. Either way I can not recommend this restaurant for those reasons. read more
