I showed up with my luggage at around 14:00 hrs. and the employee at the front desk didn't even respond to my greetings. Every question I asked went unanswered. Rude to say the least. As soon as I gave him my ID, which he did not request respectfully. He barked: check in is at 3PM!. I responded that even in boutique hotels they cut you some slack. No response. So, I asked if I could leave my luggage there, and again, rude, responded, $5.00 per piece! I asked for my IDs and went back to the Zena and left my luggage there free. The first impression is important and the one I got of this place was terrible with this employee. He argued with me in a few occasions, he's absolutely impolite, and seems not clean and moody. Every request was encountered with a rude response and an argument. Terrible! Seems to hate his job there. When I commented about it with roommates, they all felt the same way. Now, the evening and afternoon employees were very nice and polite! Unfortunately the dark man with the beard that is there in the morning takes all the good and turns it negative.

Not at all what I found at Duo - the staff were courteous and very helpful, the very nice bathroom and kitchen facilities were clean and well-supplied, and the beds, while no frills, were comfortable, warm and clean. There was a mix of residents, in terms of age (at 40 I was not even the oldest one there!) some were international travelers, others were US visitors to DC, I didn't actually meet or talk to any students. I was only able to stay one night because my driver's license still has my DC address, and they don't allow DMV residents to stay for more than a night at a time (I moved less than a month ago). For the price, this is a great find and will definitely be on my list of places to stay when I have to be in DC for work On my first night checking in, there was an older gentleman on the stoop outside telling everyone trying to get in that this was the worst hostel experience he'd ever had, and I wondered what I was getting myself into. Turns out that guy was the equivalent of a live 1-star Yelp review that Yelp would put in the "not recommended" bin.

I came on a busy weekend, so I'm sure it was more than usual but if I could do it again I'd pay more to stay at a hotel. I told them the air was broken in my pod and they told me I could move the next morning. When I went down, they said they were full and couldn't move me. I couldn't stay in a hotbox again so I stayed somewhere else. They offered me a free coffee as compensation. the prime location is the only reason I'm not giving zero stars. It's close to the nightlife, food spots and metro. I would avoid if you can afford to.

There was only one person in the room when I took the shower, so in the shower, I forgot my body wash so I got out the shower when into the room looked in my purse and I was looking for my body wash on top of my bed with my purse. When I looked at my purse after I opened it, I I realize that my $500 was gone. And yes I had a hissy fit. They claim that my 145 pounds, with a bad back which I had surgery on on 27 September at 62 years old walking with a cane that I broke their pen glass that connects to talking to the receptionist, after he told me, after me pointed to him that someone stole my money, replied what the fuck do you want us to do that's when I curse them out, went to my room and start packing my stuff to look for another place to sleep that night. Instead, they called the police on me in Washington DC and I live in Roseville Minnesota. It had to put me out at 1 o'clock in the morning, there's no police report, stating that I did this there's no bill that they sent me for damage of property, nor that I go to death jail, or get a ticket for damage property, but yet when I called hotel.com and told them that I had to sleep on the floor of the Amtrak train station because my train didn't leave until 10 o'clock in the morning they told me I was going to get refund after five days if the hotel did not respond back, the hotel never responded back only sent them something saying that I damaged their property, so hotels.com would not return money because they said I was a unruly customer so therefore they will not be refunding my money, mind you it was only $150 for the room. So in the end I want up losing $650, I tell you this place is a tourist trap most people that live there look homeless, and look like they were living there permanently, the receptionist himself told me that most people live there where they're going to school and working that sound like to meet people I live in there. It's a set up to not go there please

Reading other reviewers I understand the complaints about the beds being uncomfortable, the rooms being unventilated and stuffy, and the general dirty surroundings. I don't disagree, but... Go ahead and pay $100 more for a hotel if you have your bar set so high. I chose Capital Comfort because this was all I needed. The bed was uncomfortable, yes, but the sheets were clean. With that being said, the sheets were probably a bit too worn out from being washed over the years to not be replaced yet, though. Upon being checked in I was upgraded from an 8 person co-ed room to a 4 person, female only, room. I did not ask for it and did not expect it, but it was awfully nice! It definitely comforted me as a woman traveling to D.C. my first time. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about when they say the owner/employees were rude. We were welcomed and shown around immediately, in addition to being accommodated in how I mentioned before. Speaking of being shown around, the amenities were what to be expected at a hostel. There were communal bathrooms, one for each gender. The state of the bathrooms left more to be desired, to say the least. Wear flip flops to shower and there should be no problem! There was also a communal kitchen with a microwave, tea kettle, stove/oven, refrigerator, a washer and dryer (25¢ for each), sink, cupboards, personal lockers for rent (25¢), dining table, pots and pans, and both reusable and disposable dishes. There was also internet and TV, as well as vending and free coffee in the lobby. So, in conclusion, I've stayed at better hostels, but this one was definitely not bad by any means. It met my needs, and that's all I can ask for when paying $25 a night!

SUPER REASONABLE RATES! Located off site away from the main building's dorm rooms and public spaces, the apartment offered my family (with 7 year old) privacy and amenities beyond our wildest hopes in a fantastic neighborhood! Easy walk to Union Station and we even walked to the white house, the circulator bus also stops nearby if walking is not an option. The apartment itself was secure, safe, and clean with kitchen, dining, living, master, nice bathroom, spare bedroom, walk in closet, and balcony. Wifi and cable too! What a splendid home to return to after a long day in the crowds and at the monuments. You could probably sleep 6 comfortably! What was the best surprise you ask? The rooftop grill/lounge area with pool and hot tub! Wow! With panoramic views of the city, it was the perfect way to end the day. The staff was also incredible... they were prompt to answer emails and helped us with storing and walking our luggage to the apartments. Truly one of our best experiences in DC. I cannot stop raving about how great Capital View is, and cannot wait to return! Thank you so much!

Capital Rat Hostel ... ew!…read more Let's start with the pros of this well-situated establishment; it is central in Washington DC, the staff was very nice and helpful and it has nice equipment. The kitchen is large, they have an awesome TV room and a decent amount of facilities. The biggest pro though is their rooftop deck. They have a dart board and a lounge-like corner which is very comfy, great music and a nice view. The Wifi is fast as well. Now the big cons: There was a rat in the kitchen-bin when we wanted to make ourselves a late evening snake. That destroyed our appetite big time and kind of frightened us where hygiene is concerned. Also, the bedsheets were pretty dirty and there was a hole (I have a bad feeling that it was rat-related) in our bedroom wall, only covered with a plaster. Overall, a hostel with great potential. They need to get their hygiene and rat situation under control though to be considered worth the money that they ask!

I lodged at DC Trekker a few months back for several weeks. Here are two words to briefly describe…read morethis place ~ grossly overrated! And, while the place is somewhat clean with comfortable beds (though on the softer side), it's important to note that the reviews found on sites such as Hostelworld.com and Hostels.com, to name a few, are quite inflated. Here are just a couple of issues that you should be aware of before deciding to book with DC Trekker: 1. The hostel manager is a poor communicator and certainly not the most polished, or professional chap. Also of note ~ I (as did one, or two of the other female patrons [per our convo]) often felt uncomfortable in his presence.... 2, The communication system in place to advise guests/patrons of new, or updated 'House Rules' is simply ineffective and laughable. Example: If the advertised charges(whether the daily [$40/night, or monthly [$750/month] initially paid are scheduled to increase (which they DID) within a matter of days, or weeks; you better make sure you're on the 'lookout' for one of the 30, or so, typed notes on 8 1/2 x 11 sz white paper (& randomly placed on practically every wall, door, cabinet, etc., of the house) used to advise guests of any/all changes to the rules. Otherwise, you're just SOL with no recourse. Never was there any verbal communication, or 'heads up' given by the so-called manager of the hostel to inform patrons of a rate increase, OR a plan to discard your one-week old food item from the community fridge. Did I apply the term 'poor' to describe communications?? Quite frankly, I should have followed my gut when researching DC hostel options by choosing to lodge with Hosteling International, instead. Hosteling International is not only less expensive ($29/night without a monthly commitment), but also located in a much safer and more affluent neighbourhood (e.g. just blocks away from the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Capitol Brewery, 3 major Metro lines at Metro Center, etc.), Definitely more "bang for your buck!" Lastly, you might want to check out Airbnb.com for private options if doing a long-term stay. Happy hosteling! .

I stayed at DC Trekker for 1 month while transitioning to a new job in DC. For context, I am a 26…read moreyear old female. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and was grateful for an easy, drama free place to stay. Here is to you Shorty and Kevin! ROOMS The rooms are hostel-like, nothing to yay or nay about. No locks on the doors or lockers, so bring your own locks for your luggage. However, I no problem with my items being stole or messed with. There are closets and dressers in the rooms. SERVICE The hostel managers are professional and reasonable. Yes, there are more rules than your usual hostel, however they basically ask you to treat the place like you'd treat your own - or if you were a guest in someone's house. Clean up after yourself, no feet on the furniture, no eating in the living room and please be quiet after 10PM as a curtesy to others. Also, no mix gendered rooms or alcohol in the house - 2 rules I can understand people taking issue with but I understand why they are in place.... THIS IS NOT A PARTY HOSTEL. Most people staying here are in transition for work or school as opposed to traveling through while on some grand adventure. (Aaahhh, I miss those days) THIS PLACE IS IDEAL for anyone looking for a reasonably priced, calm, quiet but friendly place to stay. Ants in the kitchen and slightly dirty rooms and bathrooms can be an issue. I feel the cleanliness never got out of hand but it could have been kept cleaner. However, I was a Peace Corps Volunteer, so I'm over ultra-cleanliness and germaphobia. LOCATION You can't beat the location. Within a few blocks is a Metro station, Target, Best Buy, Starbucks, Five Guys, CVS, Panera Bread, Beth Bath and Beyond, vintage/thrift clothing stores, hole in the wall ethnic food dives, a farmer's market and Safeway. Plus, it is a diverse mix of people from different backgrounds. BUT PLEASE NOTE, crime is an issue. While I was staying there, 3 people in the hostel were mugged and 1 woman was followed back to the hostel by a heckler. HOWEVER, this place is PERFECTLY SAFE if you are smart. Don't' walk home drunk, don't walk home drunk in the dark, don't cut through sketchy side alley ways while drunk and in the dark....and mind your belongings. Police and citizen watchmen are constantly walking down the main streets at night, so stick to those and you'll be fine. Again, 26 year old female here and I NEVER felt at risk. VALUE The monthly rate is very good! $800 for the bed, pillow, sheets, laundry, wifi, tv, kitchen, bathroom and I locked my bike in the back patio area with a U Lock. I find the highly rate a bit expensive but eheh.
