I am on hold waiting to speak with someone at the local Reno SS office. Even though my husband was already getting social security I cannot get survivor benefits until I am 60 which is this August 11th! HORRIBLE COUNTRY WE LIVE IN! Oh yeah, fun fact: my husband was also a VETERAN! Update---I finally got in touch with a live person. They rescheduled me for May 5th. I'm sure there will be an excuse then too when I probably don't get that phone call. Too bad your cushy government jobs aren't an incentive for you to actually show up at your jobs!!! I just can't wait to set up the appt for when I turn 60 this August and file for actual survivor benefits. I'll be lucky to get those next year sometime. Yeah I forgot, even though my veteran husband was already getting social security because I'm 59 I don't matter. Reno social security and social security overall needs to DO BETTER.

The good news is that the DMV has improved significantly. This Social Security office and department has much to learn. It has been over 15+ years since I have had access to my SS information and benefits. So before making an appointment to come to this office, I amazingly was able to get online access last week, so I suggested for my wife to do the same. And now they locked her out?!?! So after a very long wait and a few tries on the phone to clear her account, it failed. They had us go to the local post office for an in person verification, but it was a different system and can NOT communicate currently with the SS system. What a waste of time. So on the phone again... Made an in person appointment to our local office. Well we thought we did, the lady (that lied) said she did. But when we got there, NO appointment was found. So they gave us a walk in #. After an hour of waiting, we asked the security guard if this was normal. He said no and gave us a few suggestions. While my wife worked on his suggestions, I started asking ALL the people around me how long they have been waiting, up to 4 hours... WHAT!!!! The good news is that we are still very young and will not apply for the benefits any time soon. I hope my wife gets online access years from now.... Atmosphere - Small parking lot, but more than enough spaces for everyone. Small lobby, not enough room for everyone. Clean restrooms. Service - The two security guards were friendly and nice. And also helpful. The rest of the employees were stressed out! Understaffed, overworked, and probably underpaid. Price - Decades of payroll contributions!!!!!!! And only get to hear from the media that benefits keep getting pushed out later with less $$. Owner Comment - What a broken system. Please get with the times.

I don't have health insurance and I am now pregnant and I asked to go on an emergency medical plan or whatever since I am now pregnant and they said "we can't do anything until we hear from the IT department". THIS HAS BEEN OPEN SINCE OCTOBER, and I keep going in to that place and they still will not try to do anything. I went in on June 4th 2026 and supervisor Carli Fripp was supposed to be on hold with the IT department until they answered and then give me a call back to tell me anything, and she never called me back. I am about to sue the state, I have so many unpaid bills, because why would I pay a bill when I should be on Medicaid.

Every time I come in, I'm told the queue is already full and they can no longer help anyone. I have called every single day and stayed on the phone for over an hour at a time, often with no one even picking up. I work full-time and have even taken time off work just to wait for a scheduled interview but no one even called back. I've left work early on multiple occasions hoping to be accommodated, but still get turned away because they close at a certain time when I'm there an hour before they close coming from work. What makes this even more frustrating is that my application was denied stating that my household does not live in Nevada. This is completely false. I have lived in Nevada for 21 years and have never left. A department that is meant to help families in need should not make it this difficult for working parents to receive assistance. Instead of helping people, this system continues to shut them out. This experience has been exhausting, discouraging, and unacceptable.

I had been struggling for weeks to get a previous year's tax transcript which I needed for certain grad school testing bureaus. Online- nada, zip. Phone calls? You've got to be kidding me. A top-notch accountant came through big time and helped me out. All I had to do was mail the form to Fresno (IRS regional office) and in 10 days it was supposed to arrive. Nada, zip...and my deadline was looming. I finally decided that face-to-face was needed and stopped by the Reno office late last week...big crowd but the guard/crowd control officer, who runs a tight ship, saved me a ton of time and energy when she asked what I needed. She told me that the transcript request system was down, all the way to Vegas. So, I returned bright and early Monday morning. Yes, there was a wait, but after an hour or so it was my turn. I was helped by a cordial IRS staffer and had my documents in hand within 5 minutes. Victory! Pro Tips: They open at 8:30 AM but if you want to be first in line, get there before opening time and wait outside. There's a little concrete planter you can sit on. The office is ground level in the big bank building across from District Court on Virginia/Court St. Most lot parking is 30 minutes only so opt for street/metered parking. Bring your quarters; 15 minutes per quarter. Don't bring in drinks or food. Don't cop an attitude, and you will be treated well. Get a number, input your info on the touch pad, and sit down. Quietly. Violators will be called out. No public restrooms so arrive (and stay) dehydrated. Bring a book to occupy yourself. Be smart (unlike me) and don't go to the IRS right before tax season

Living at Lake Tahoe the only IRS office listed was Reno NV about 65 miles away or a 130 round trip. I drove to the location which is the Reno Federal Courthouse. When I asked for the IRS office, The guard directed me to a form rack as apparently there is no actual office. The rack, which was in total disarray, was the only source of information. The Form 4868 was not available and clearly the guard was clueless as to the situation and offered no remedy. How can this be 5 days before the tax filing date on 7/15/20? A half day wasted.
