Waste Management is ridiculous. They could not pick up my 90 gal. green waste container because they said it was too heavy. When I called the office, they said that they can't pick up more than 220 lbs. per container, it's only weeds. They said if the weeds were dry, they can lift a full container. 220 lbs. is about 1/2 full of green weeds. They also said they could come back out to pick it up for an extra charge. When they had there old trucks they never had a problem, but there new clean-air trucks can't lift jack. I have a small Kubota B series tractor that can lift 2 fully loaded green waste containers. Hard to believe WM bought trucks with such a WEAK hydraulic system. On top of that, they just raised their rates, AGAIN! read more

Our Christmas tree has always been picked up... but not this year so after 2 weeks of it sitting out at the curb, I spent 45 minutes via the phone and their chat only to be finally told to take it to the landfill myself. The ladies I spoke with for customer service and billing were so amazing and kind. I'm taking over the utilities for the home I am in and the previous utilities holder fudged stuff up. The ladies at WM were very understanding and helpful. Also, for whatever reason, I couldn't hear them very well on the phone and when I apologized for asking them to repeat, they said, "Oh. I am so sorry," then they spoke louder for me without being rude. I really am impressed with the service that I received today. Thank you. read more

Signed up a month ago; never received our bins, no one ever made a pickup, but they accepted the payment. Called customer service, wrote them emails, used the chat... "no record of your customer ID, please provide the address. No record of your address, please provide the cutomer ID. Please send a screen capture of your receipt. No record of this charge..." The last few times, speaking with "Yogita," "Merci," and "Innocent" I made sure to point out that the emails I sent contained 1) the address, 2) the customer ID, 3) the order, and 4) the confirmation of payment, and that I had provided it again when requested, and they had either hung up or just stopped responding to the chat. We finally had to dispute the charge via our bank, as WM simply claimed our account didn't exist while continuing to charge. What an incompetent, unprofessional mess. I tore down a shed in my backyard and paid for a 4 yard dumpster to be delivered. I took everything - wood, insulation, a broken toilet, etc and filled it up (actually a little over full) and the driver said it was too heavy. I removed a few hundred lbs of scrap wood and he managed to pick it up. He explained the new trucks don't have the lifting capacity as the old ones. He emptied it and brought it back so I could refill it... This last week I cleaned up the yard, picked up the little bits, a few remaining pieces of wood, some Amazon boxes, and general trash...the dumpster isn't even half full, you can see the bottom in a bunch of places. There's probably less than 300 lbs in this thing, I can rock it back and forth myself.... But yet "it's too heavy to pick up." Why am I paying for a dumpster that I can't fill up? Why would you buy trucks that can't pick up a full dumpster? None of this makes sense to me... read more

Good luck getting in touch with them. Their "local number" just transfers to the corporate conglomerate somewhere, where you play "poke a number" on the phone while a robot insists it can handle everything. Then finally if you try desperately to get a human, it informs you that the "call volume is unusually high and it will be more than 20 minutes on hold". Not long ago you could call the local office to report a missed pickup or make any needed service changes, but now one had better plan on spending the morning getting annoyed by simulated human voices who keep asking you to repeat what you already said and apologizing for being too stupid to understand it. read more

They forgot to pick up our recycling and then marked it off as "done" then they took our recording bin and replaced it with a smaller one but we aren't even sure it's for us because we never scheduled a transfer but our bin disappeared! Waste Management continues in business only because it is a sole source monpoly for the length of it's contract. They could not exist in a competitive market. In my over 80 years of life, Waste Management has the worst customer service I've experienced. And, service is what we are buying. To enhance business profits, (not customer fees) Waste Management exploits customer time as unpaid labor. How many hours of collective customer time is spent listening to endless recordings and incomplete choice options, repetitive contacts, or lengthy, unproductive wait time to accomodate this self-serving business practice? Nothing about their automation practices or denial of customer access to the company has improved or made more affordable service. They have added only frustration and anxiety to customers. In the end, however, it is the elected representatives of government agencies who, because of influence and/or ignorance, fail to provide the public with a service of value. read more

Waste Management in Atascadero missed my pick up five weeks in a row. I called each time a pick up was missed and was told they would send someone out the next day. That dragged on for weeks. Many excuses were given. Several times it was staff shortages then the truck broke down. On one of the calls, the dispatcher phoned the driver who reported back he had already dumped the bins. I told dispatch I was standing next to all of the bins; all were full still. They apologize and of course said they would have the driver come back out the next day. In the 20+ years I've lived here every time I've called for help or answers to questions I got quick and courteous results. Not once have I had any problems. They replaced broken bins the same day or in 1 day and have always picked up on time. I had to write this to counter act all the negativity! I've had to use WM for two months now, and I've already had to call them about missed pickups more than I've had to call any other company in my lifetime. Our trash can did not get emptied on the scheduled day. We made a phone call to Waste Management and left a message and our phone number, reporting about our trash not getting emptied. The next morning we received a call and we were asked to put the trash can back out for pick up. Within the hour it was picked up! Thank you so much Waste Management! Micheal, was professional and lighthearted while dropping off our 25 yard dumpster. It was a task to deliver and position, this due to the fact we have limited flat space. The city makes trash pickup by WM mandatory. It would be much cheaper and easier for me to haul my trash to the dump/recycle on my own, but no choice. I only put my cans out about once a month because I just don't generate enough trash to put them out weekly and I still get charged $60 every 2 months. That's $30 per pick-up! Here's what I get for my $30 per pick-up; trash bins broken, trash bins not emptied, trash bins left in the street, trash bins left in front of my driveway... and so on. I call the local office and at best, nothing happens. At worst, the drivers do even more stupid stuff in retaliation. If at all possible, find a way to not use this company. read more

I had returned from overseas to find out my trash had not been picked up for two weeks. I've called, I've left messages. They told me it was because of a routing issue, although none of my neighbors seemed to have a problem with their trash.(My can sits directly next to theirs). I have paid on time never late since owning our home (1993). I have, however, had to call several times for one reason or another to get them to fix the situation. They do not follow up, they dont do what they promise the customer, they are extremely rude to customers. You get the, "yes, ma'am, we will send a driver out TODAY" and they dont deliver on what theyve said. I dont normally do reviews but in this case, with all of the laziness and no regard to the customers, I've had enough. Get your act together. Produce the customer service your customers deserve. read more

Driver always leaves my trash can in the middle of my driveway so I have to stop in the middle of the street, get out of my car with my toddler inside, and move the can before I can pull into my driveway! Did not pick up my green waste can and when I called they said the can was too heavy. I only had leaves in the can. What is the purpose of a green waste can if you can't fill it with leaves. I was told I could put out 6 additional bags of green waste the following week. So I scooped my leaves into 6 separate bags and waited a week and nope they didn't pick them up again. Just called and wasn't given an a explanation or apology but " we will will pick them up in the next 48 hours" Why am I doubtful? Absolutely horrific customer service, not knowledgeable about anythinng. Spent over an hour on the phone with the local & corporate office trying to update my payment information, only to find out that they didn't actually know who handled my trash payments since they sell off the accounts (even though my billing statements say "Waste Management EZPay"). Then got an email notification that they updated my account to a completely made up email address... so now I'll probably have to waste another hour of my life trying to figure that out. This company is terrible. I received a call to move my car, I went out there to move it and the driver said not to worry about it, that it wasn't in the way. Later on, another driver came to empty the other bin (which is in the same area as the other bin, thus the access to the bin was exactly the same for the second driver as it was for the first) - anyways, we received a call for me to move my car, and when I went out there to move it he said it was too late, that he would not empty it. I said "really, why not, you are here, I am here, why cant you empty it?" He said, it was because he had to wait five minutes. So, the first guy got to the bin no problem, the other refused to empty it because he had to wait a couple of minutes. Sorry, I am pregnant and it is a long walk to the trash bin and I cannot teleport myself. It is ridiculous that this company acts this way. I have heard soooooo many bad stories about this waste management company that it is a joke. read more
