I love this store. And I love how they have different rooms for different items . Ok instance one room is everything you can find about lighting. From light bulbs ( for.50ea) to switches and wire to all kinds of lighting fixtures. And then one room has everything about tile and grout and concrete. The first time i shopped at this buisiness,i needed a set of jumper cables and this was the closest place i could biy them. I didnt want vrand new ones,because i already had 3 or 4 sets at home and in storage. I asked the clerk if they had any and he pointed to a area and i eventually found them. The only pair i found was $10 and they were rusty old. I wouldve priced them at $4 & i would feel very guilty. They ended up not working and i was not wanting to make the walk back,so i enfed up throwing them away because they dont give refunds. I ended up asking for help and a guy stoppex abd helped me with his own cables. I never went back after seeing the rediculous prices this family marked for goods that are donated to them every day. Thats not the reason ive given less then 1 star if possible. My 53 year old wife loves junk and she loves to shop locally. The last time she went here was when she needed a couple bolts for a rack for the back of her bicycle and she brought the rack with her into the store and asked a young man if she could please leave it with him while she looked for the bolts and nuts to put it on. He had no problem at first but when she came back and asked for help finding the right hardware,he was very rude and told her she was banned for life for stealing the rack. She was shocked that she was being accused of doing anything and told him to please look at his cameras and he will see that she brought it from home. She hoped that he would calk the police because he was accusingher of something shes never done anywhere. He refused to review any cameras or call police. My wife is a beautiful young lady thats very clean,dresses approprite,and is always very polite and respectful to everyone. This guy treated her like a tramp or homeless junkee. She was in tears when she called and told me about it so i went there and asked the young man whay he accused her of stealing. He said he did not accuse her of anything,so i said ok..why did you ban her then and all he said was "we have the right to refuse service to anyone. The owners son tried to shake me down for a finders fee on a product they rejected and the owner offered it to me because she didn't want to drop it off at the good will store. I've been going to that store for over 10 years because I needed supplies for a home i bought that was in disrepair. When I stopped by today, I picked out a dog bed and a few other cheap items. I was in the parking lot when A lady pulled up in a truck and started handing over her items to a worker. He rejected a brand new Christmas tree in the box. I handed him my money and he went inside to get change. I told the lady that I thought it was weird he wouldn't take the tree. She asked if I knew anyone that could use it and I said yes... the worker returned with my $13.00 in change then grabbed $3.00 of it back. I said what are you doing? He said it was a finders fee for the tree. I said, the f it is! And took my money out of his hands. I said the tree was never yours so you can't do that. He said I was on public property. I said, so what and told the lady I would meet her around the corner. What a jerk! Then come to find out he's the owners son. Is that how they treat community members? Does she know her son pockets money grabbed out of a woman's hands? Too bad this woman showed up with her 100 pound XL bully on a leash and he wasn't going to get away with shaking me down. They take cash only and will give you wrong change and lie about what amount of cash you hand them! Never shop there!!

If you must shop at WNWN, then don't WASTE your money on anything electric! Now they don't allow you to test things, like a heater, because they claim their insurance won't cover if you electrocute yourself and they promise to have tested their stuff. I can promise you THEY DO NOT TEST, THEY ONLY MAKE SURE THE LIGHT WORKS...and sometimes, that doesn't work. read more

Waste Not Want Not is a Gem and a very valuable resource in our community. I've been donating and buying useful materials, tools and antiques here for years and years and I'm always impressed at how reasonable and generous Sue and her staff are about maintaining fair pricing. That said this place is not for people who expect hand holding service, this is a place for people who are looking for specific parts or useful items. If you know what you need they are very knowledgeable, kind and supportive. If you are whiny, clueless or demanding: Then get to the back of the line "No soup for you". Unreasonable reactions, complaining or assumptions of service will be met with reasonable direct responses that maintain their work place boundaries. If you have an object that they accept it because they know they have a customer for that item. If they refuse something you think is useful, it's because they have too many of that item or don't feel it's appropriate for their store. What they choose to accept or not accept is completely up to them. Be respectful, patient and kind and you will be surprised and the treasures you will find here. read more

Waste Not is great place to find cool, unusual things, great used building materials, yard tools, lawn furniture, appliances and more. I've been going there for years...a fun and interesting place to walk around and see all the fun stuff they offer. Take your visiting friends and relatives...it's a destination of sorts. Carla, not sure how you spell her name. Rude...new items came in, I caught a glimpse of something and I politely asked her, "For the new items, when do price those items?" She looked at me like I had a horn sticking out of my forehead. She then says, "when I have time we are busy today," then walks off. A good salesperson would take a minute to at least see what the item of interest is. Nope, not this particular individual...there were no customers at the register, no lines. Example: A friend and I recently went in and purchased an adjustable door-frame rod for only a couple bucks, picked up a small candle holder (+ candle) for only 15 cents, and then they threw in the handful of nails I'd picked out, for FREE ! Stopped in to drop off an item and was told they didn't want it and the person who helped me was rude.

Purchased a high end dishwasher with the guarantee that it worked, got it home and hooked up, but realized it didn't work when it poured water all over my kitchen floor. I called a repair person and paid 140 for the house call only to find out it was going to cost another 700 to repair the dishwasher. I have left multiple phone calls to see how they would handle my return, with no returned calls back from them. Now the 2 week guarantee period is up and I'm stuck with a broken dishwasher. Buyer beware, this place is a big scam, and I will do everything in my power to spread this message. If I could give them negative stars I would read more

I have been to this store several times and always had a good experience with Rainy. But the last time I was there may be the last time I go there. A different woman was there and she was unfriendly, which isn't a big deal, but the next day when my daughter and son-in-law went to pick up what I had purchased, she was not only rude but insulting. Good local place. Has a pretty quick turnover of materials, although some things aren't competitively priced... Then again there's no competition for this business in the area. In response to the negative reviews of the female owner and clerk- Like everyone, she seems to return the attitude she is given, and puts up with plenty of rude comments or assumptions as a woman in a carpentry/construction related job. I have been in this store multiple times for treasures and when I see her working I turn right back and Will not step foot in this place if she is working. Waste-Not is probably my favorite store in Port Townsend. It is a total "easter-egg hunt" adventure, but with just enough organization and enough breadth and depth that I can usually solve just about any sort of building related mechanical problem there, plumbing, fastening or electrical, if I am disciplined about keeping an open mind about what constitutes a "solution" and allow myself more than one visit to find what I am after. read more
