But now I rarely go in and see a stock of hot dogs on the rollers. There was about 4 each type ready to go and pretty fresh. Now I am lucky if I see one fresh one of any flavor. And there is now 1 or 2 on the cooking side still unready. A couple times I have gone recently and the hot dogs were overcooked. The skin was actually starting to wrinkle. I was not impressed. I was hoping it was just the new management getting into the swing of things and it would get better. But now it is reminding me of the Qwik-E-Mart off the simpsons. I just want to be able to go in on the morning rush and actually see food available. I stop in on my way home from work and it's a weird guilty pleasure. A slurpee and a hotdog or 2 with chili and cheese. It isn't looking great. Not sure if they will get it back under control or not. It literally looked like the guy behind the counter was running back and forth cooking stuff one by 1 in the microwave back there as it was ordered. Which causes issues with customer service. Not sure if they are trying to conserve on waste. But if I wanted a microwaved hotdog I would do that myself at home. The point is to be able to grab n go.

There's the 30 something year old stoner that's obviously done time but has cleaned up his act... a bit. There's the ex con that's straight faced and stays out of trouble. And there's the new girl with tattoos that's young but calls you sweetie like an old school diner waitress. Selection? All the beer. Lots of snacks. And everything in between. It's a way long distance to the next nearest fuel if you don't have a Pacific Pride card or the ability to use commercial fuel services. Not such a huge deal anymore with the big Harleys having 5+ gallon fuel tanks and better mileage motors. But 30+ years ago, 100 or so miles was about the range of the average chopper which, "conveniently" was the distance from the Shell station in Estacada to Detroit. All gone now :( The wildfire that swept through Mill City, Gates and Detroit took out many homes and businesses, this store among them. I hope they are able to rebuild but even if they do, it will never be the same.

Getting gas here is a chore now…read more OK, so now you can pump your own gas in Oregon. I don't have a problem with that. But I DO have a problem with pumps that can take cards, but don't, with no attendants, forcing you to walk quite a ways across a lot into another building out of view of your car and wait in line. When you go to insert your card you're met with a little screen that says "Machine not currently taking cards. Please pay inside" or something like that. Even though the machine has a card reader, and I've used it before in the past under previous ownership. So OK, cool no problem. My legs aren't broken. I'll just walk inside. Now I have to wait in line at least 10 minutes behind people humming and hawing at what they want out of the deli case. Or to stare blankly at the menu as if they've never seen or heard of chicken on a stick before. I do finally get up there. I hand the kid my card. "How's it going? I'd like some gas. Fill on pump three please" He asks me how much? I say "a fill, I want to fill it up please" Then he asked me, well do you know like what dollar amount that's gonna be?. Really man? No, that's kind of what you're supposed to tell me after the car has been filled up. So they don't have the technology to put an authorization on my card, and then charge me what the total is when I'm done pumping the gas? Am I the only person that ever comes in and asks them to fill it up? Really? I say "Just give me $10" Only $10? "Yes please, thanks." (Just give me enough to get up the road to someplace that knows how gas stations are supposed to work.)

They also had a large variety of alcohol, snacks, and ice cream that carried us through our late night shenanigans.
