As life would have it, we need to cut our trip short for a family (eldery parents) situation for 2 nights, instead of 3, at Sunny Brook. Elaine explained to us, very firmly and matter of factly, that they will nor refund or give consideration for the 3rd night. As avid RVers, I find that odd. They do have permanent sites and they have their own pool and clubhouse. They pick up your garbage every morning. On weekends they sometimes have music and food that you have to pre order. The pool was clean, the showers were nice, and I can't even explain how much we appreciated the air conditioned bathrooms after being outside in the summer heat. One of our favorite little surprises was the cartoons at night. It was such a simple, nostalgic touch that made the evenings feel special... even if the young staff had a battle figuring out the DVD player. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the flies. OMG... there were SO many flies that it made hanging around our campsite pretty miserable at times. It was also pretty expensive for a tent site. That said, when you factor in everything that's included for kids, I can definitely see where the value comes from. We'd absolutely come back, just with a lot more bug spray next time!

Our site was sand/grass and level, with full hook up and pull-through. Martin is super friendly and made sure we were okay as we set up. And our neighbors were very nice. Okay, for the fun stuff - we had less than a 5 minute walk to Lake Michigan and beach walking. This isn't the part of the beach with lots to do. For that, you'll need to hop on a bike or drive. I imagine in the summer and on weekends, this place is busy and louder; we stayed on a weeknight and it was fantastically quiet - best night's sleep we've had this trip. A lot of full-timers here. If you get the chance, stay here!

We rented two Motel Rooms this last weekend in South Haven for two nights for our family. The…read moretotal cost for a Friday and Saturday Night was just under $1,000.00. I rented here because the reviews online that I had read were better than good, but when I really dug into other review sites once I returned home, other than where I booked from, I found a completely different story. I want to make sure that there is a fair recommendation out there for people to really make up their mind on whether or not they should stay here. First, I do want to mention that the owners were very polite to us and we have no issue with them. Also, there is a charm to these old-style motel rooms including the beautiful tile in the bathrooms. Additionally, there are new entry doors with digital locks as well as new windows. And true, this place is serene and great if you like peace and quiet - but still, there are many additional things to take into consideration. Although the rooms appear nice in the pictures, there are still issues like water damaged ceilings, water damaged bathroom doors, leaky tub fixtures (which were also way out of date and require replacing), drywall that needs to be retaped and mudded as well as a musty smell to the rooms that don't show up in pictures. One of the two rooms had bugs, but not because the room was dirty and I'm not talking cock roaches, just bugs. The reason? The wall air conditioner is not sealed on the sides and bugs get in through the outside vent, and then through the side panels that are not sealed against the air conditioner. There were also some inconsistencies like one of the rooms had a microwave, one didn't. One had information about your stay, one didn't. There is no coffee maker or ironing board in the room, but you could ask at the front desk to use these items (listed in the information about the room) we did not, we might have used these items had they been in the room, but since it was not readily available, we just made other arrangements. Again, I really want to be fair here - but these basic amenities plus others like ice were not available to us. Additionally, there was no pool, there was no breakfast. The thing that is really agitating and I think that is important for travelers to know is that there is NOTHING here that justifies the room rates and just because it is in South Haven doesn't justify the price. The weekend before and as a part of this trip, we stayed in a Comfort Inn and Suites that had a nice, comfortable, up to date room, with an indoor pool and included breakfast for $120.00 per room per night in the Wisconsin Dells. For what I paid at Jensen's, it feels like we stayed in a dump.

Silver Creek Horseman's camp has about 80 sites offering primitive camping. 10 of the 80 sites are…read morereserved for no horses and almost all are shaded. The camp offers 320 acres of camping and trail riding on the park grounds. Since there is state land adjacent, there are many more additional miles to keep you busy for days. The camp offers pump water and pit toilets but Silver Creek also runs through the park so it easy to take the horses down to the creek to water. Some of the sites have high line poles for 3 horses but most only have poles for two (feel free to email me if you want to know which sites have three). You are definitely not allowed to tie to trees. Portable pens are allowed but they must stay in the high line area. The park is very clean and sites are checked after each person leaves. If you don't clean up your site, you will receive a fine in the mail--which I love because I get sick of people not picking up after themselves. Fees are $10 per night and reservations can be made on the website notes in this posting. There is also a day staging area and there is a trail fee of $2 per horse. There are a lot of wonderful opportunities for activities that go on at the park. WHAM puts on a judged trail ride that is a ton of fun and there is also the Cancer Ride which is a benefit ride. Sites are usually gone way in advance for the cancer ride. This is truly a wonderful place to camp and it is the best place to pass the fall, summer and spring! Say hi when you get there.
