Ugh, I really had high hopes for Total Recall, but was let down in pretty much every regard. We did…read morepuppy kindergarten for our now 2 yo golden in Seattle, where we lived at the time, and had such a fantastic experience. So when we recently got a Newfie puppy, we knew we wanted to enroll her in a kindergarten class. A lot of people in the area (we're in White Bear Lake) recommended Total Recall, and since it was a super easy drive up 61, we picked them. My biggest gripe with them is that there's no puppy playtime. In a PUPPY KINDERGARTEN class. It makes no sense! Every other person I've talked to about this level class were all also taken aback that Total Recall doesn't incorporate this into their class. Plus, the instructor we had was very standoffish and cold, to both humans and puppies. Very off-putting. Here's what a "puppy kindergarten" class consists of: 15 minutes of the instructor telling horror stories of past puppies and answering people's questions that have little to nothing to do with anyone else in the class, while puppies bark and squirm. Doing the same pointless exercise 3 times in a row - my favorite was when they set up a tiny "agility" course without any reason, only to plug another class they sell. Then dismissing early. We ended up skipping the last 2 of our 6 classes because it just felt like such a waste of time. TL;DR: find a different trainer.

Total Recall is a fantastic place to train your dog. Sue Mills-Kothe is an expert dog trainer and…read moreapplies training based on motivation & leadership principles - a very kind approach. Our 1 year old Shih Tzu would not go for walks with me. I took him to the beginner obedience class and he was walking with me after 1 lesson. Now he gets excited to go to training & we're in the intermediate obedience class. We highly recommend Total Recall School for Dogs!

I can't say enough good things about Josiah, Summer, Mya, Jorden, and the entire Neuman team and…read moretheir approach to training. I sent my puppy, Sookie, to the 8-week program when she was 8 months old. I had been referred by friends who had sent their dogs to Neuman in the past, and while I knew it was a great program, I still went back and forth on whether to send my own dog given she was becoming a pretty good puppy already. However, I ultimately decided to send her knowing they would train her the right way and set her up for long-term success. What I did not expect was how the team was able to take her from a good dog to a GREAT dog. She now walks very nicely on the leash, waits patiently before coming out of her kennel or going through doorways, goes to her "place" while we eat meals, and can sit/down + stay like a pro. In addition to all of that, my favorite part has been her incredible recall. We take nature walks several times a week where she's able to be off leash. When we see other people, dogs, or wildlife and I call her back to me, she responds every time. I often get comments about how well behaved she is, especially for a young dog! I am so grateful for the freedom this training has enabled for her (and me!) - Sookie is able to go many more places and do more things than I ever imagined. While maintaining her training does require a couple extra minutes every day to run through the commands, it has been fun and rewarding to work on it with her. I look forward to sending Sookie back for boarding and participation in some of the more advanced training programs. I will always trust Neuman with Sookie's care and training as they truly feel like always-on partners/advisors in raising a dog. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering the program.

I don't know where we would be without Josiah and the team at Neumans K9 Academy. After that, they have trained two more of our GSDs, and all of our kids dogs. More than just training, they provide great boarding services that provide the consistent environment that our dogs love. It has been more than just training and boarding for us though. Josiah was a tremendous advisor and support when we have needed help. He went way above and beyond. Our dogs are a big part of our lives. We will always be grateful for giving them the liberty of being well disciplined and confident.
