Indianola is an alternative school that allows kids to be kids - you start each day on the "carpet" as a group and then go to work stations around the classroom depending on what you want to pursue. Age groups are mixed, diversity is omnipresent and creativity ensues! I was mapping constellations in 3rd grade and did a project on Kwanzaa in 4th... not your run-of-the-mill elementary school experience. And try finding a better school motto than "friends are like rainbows." Can I go back to school here now? Please?

There was a section of the school for deaf and hard of hearing students, and kids were bused in from Fort Hayes Army Base. So it was a diverse, lively, nurturing place. And it's a bit of a walk from the nearest parking, which is to the right end of the school and near the middle school. That, and a lack of shade or benches, made it less pleasant for this old dad. Baby K liked it. Smallish, old school, with metal slides. Nice recycled rubber mat all the way around. Seems geared toward younger kids. Perhaps there is another playground nearby for older ones? Fenced in. Nice enough, but nothing special.

One big playset but also lots of other stuff, some on rubber mat areas. Baby K loooooved it. Lots to climb, big and small. An in-ground merry-go-round. Just loads of fun. Sign says closed during school hours, which of course makes sense.

Review for the playground only!…read more Came on a beautiful spring day, after school. Lots of kids on the playground- but it's so big it wasn't crowded. There are two playsets, one for smaller kids and one bigger. Plus, other areas: climbing stuff, music, swings, exercise equipment, etc. Loads to do. Only a few benches for tired adults, but that's the norm at schools. Beautifully kept grounds and equipment. Parking is not very close. Baby K loved it and we will be back.

Great memories over four years at Denison University's athletic complex in Granville Ohio with…read moreWashU Swimming. The complex is maybe ten years old, but looks new. It houses indoor track, tennis and swimming. My visits after Thanksgiving have been at their annual Denison Invitational Meet with my son. The school uses the opportunity to fundraise the local food bank. My specific experience with the school is through swimming only. So the rating has nothing to do with academics, although I know from ratings and word of mouth it is a strong D3 school. The pool is a looker. It's a 50 meter with diving wells. They also installed a very large spectator area to hold large events like conference and the Denison Invitational. However, a star deduction with air quality issues over the years. This makes competing much harder. So long Denison University. My son has graduated out of this meet and it will be missed. Not just the facility, but the people and memories it holds.

I was very impressed with The Mitchell Center at Denison University at the Trumbull Aquatic Center…read morethat was added in 2012. The first time that I went there to watch a Special Olympics Powerlifting competition, there was a pool that was smaller than it is now before the Trumbull Aquatic Center was built. The pool is very fast and recently hosted the South Central Regional Swim Meet for Special Olympics Ohio. The lockers were great, except there was no hot water to take a shower possibly due to the weather. I would to come back to the Trumbull Aquatic Center at The Mitchell Center to swim with an alumni person and current team members. Thank you Denison University for the Aquatic Center.
