I would not give Waverly Dental (11840 Southmore Dr, Ste 150, Charlotte, NC 28277) a second chance. From my very first interaction, the telephone receptionist was shockingly rude -- not exactly the warm welcome you'd hope for from a healthcare provider. When I escalated my concerns, the office manager was no better. The unprofessional attitude appears to run straight through the organization. Beyond the poor customer service, this place feels less like a dental practice and more like a dental mill -- one that seems far more interested in extracting money from your wallet than in providing quality care. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for your dental needs. There are plenty of practices in the Charlotte area that will treat you with the respect and attentiveness you deserve. read more

I called the office to help translate for my mom and didn't have the best experience. The receptionist went over our insurance twice and told us it wasn't eligible, but when we contacted the insurance company ourselves, we found out that it actually was. We were also texting the office and the responses suddenly stopped. When we called around 2 PM during business hours, we were told they were about to close even though the website says they close at 5. Overall, it was a frustrating experience. Front desk staff are usually the first point of contact, so clear communication and professionalism really matter. read more

I have gone to Waverly Dental for about two years and have been very happy with the care and treatment I have received. I had badly eroded lower front teeth. I had been told by others that I'd need implants or even dentures. Dr Matthews gave me caps. They have worked very well and saved good money compared to the other treatments. RUN, & I mean run from Dr. Mathews at Waverly Dental. Perhaps Waverly all together. I'm experiencing on-going dental failures & even more expensive fixes I've had to avail myself of since my experience with Dr. Matthews & my 1st bad review of him. After a botched dental implant (fault totally on Dr. Mathews) because he used the gum tissue that could not support a rod. My x-ray clearly showed the gum tissue was too weak to hold an implant. Specifically, Dr. Matthews should have inserted a longer one in the jawbone. Since he didn't the short rod fell out within days. So, I go back & instead of inserting the longer dental rod into the bone & reusing the crown he created to place on the rod, he decided to remove my totally good back crown, & place a bridge over 3 teeth. I brush daily & use a recommended water pik (aka water flosser), but the bridge fell off approx. 6 months later. By that time, I have a new dentist, who was surprised by the amount of decay on my back tooth (the one Matthews removed the good crown from & put the bridge on). Hello! So now I am paying all by myself because my dental insurance won't cover what they have already paid for in 2026. So, paying all the expense for a new crown Matthews removed, & a new dental implant with new crown on it that I must pay 100%. After I challenged Waverly because my insurance wouldn't pay for the bridge as they already paid for a dental implant, & they denied paying for the bridge, Waverly told me I was no longer welcome at Waverly Dental. Ouch! Not, as if I'd ever go back there again. RUN FROM THIS MAN AND Waverly. Nightmare experience!!! I then went to Friendly Dental Group of Siskey, Mathews, NC as a brand-new patient. I just wanted them to fix or create a new bridge & then I'd be happy to come back in to have all my teeth x-rayed & cleaned. Well apparently, that didn't suit them & they sent their "big gun" into school me who apparently is a roving project manager" for them & Waverly Dental. I Apparently, the "roving project manager" said he thought Dr. Matthews was a great dentist. After he scolded me. I stated I wasn't comfortable being a patient there & left. On a side note, Friendly Dentist (oxymoron as in contradictory in using Friendly in their name) wouldn't identify the "roving project manager". Yea, perhaps they should add Trustful, & Ethical to Friendly. Run from both dental companies. I went to Dr. Matthews for a second opinion when I was told I needed dentures. Dr. Matthews told me it wasn't necessary and fixed what needed to be fixed. He restored my smile and my confidence as well as my speech. I can't thank Dr. Matthews enough. He did a great job and I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs dental work. read more

My oldest child had a cavity filled in November 2024. She went back to college after Thanksgiving break, the filling fell out at school. l had to pay to have it fixed, over $400. I figured it was a one-off incident. Then, my other daughter, who was also recently seen at Waverly Dental, needed a follow up for one known filling, but they couldn't fit her in quickly. So, I took her to different local dentist, reputable dentist, and they found four cavities and told me all of her sealants were cracked or missing. I confirmed with a second opinion and indeed it was true. So, now I figured I better get my other child into the new dentist, who was also recently seen by Waverly Dental. He has four new cavities that need filling. I asked how long they had been there and was told hard to tell but "they were deep". I have spent almost $2,000 on dental care thus far. I'm so glad I took them to another dentist knowing so much was missed by Waverly Dental. Highly recommend a second opinion so others don't end up thinking things are okay when they are not, and things get worse, and more expensive. read more

From the speed and conveience of scheduling my appointment to the 3 mins (maximum) i waited before my checkup cleanimg to the outstanding Dental hygenist PAM! Who is so effecient and careful she is such a pleasant experience semi annually. Waverlys staff and operations are excellent. I was with my last dentist for 30 years and was actually surprised at how outstanding Waverly has been after my dentist retired! I recommend Waverly to anyone in South Charlotte. read more

This is one of those instances where I should have just trusted my gut and walked away. Upon entering the office there was a frenzied vibe...and I had one of the early morning appointments. I came here for a second opinion. I shared this when making the appointment and provided all of the information about the situation, the name, address and phone number of where to obtain my previous records and x-rays. I was then taken back to get more x-rays. I explained to the girl taking them the situation, so she went to double check, but they didn't get them. She told me they would retake the x-rays but not charge me for them. Then the craziness again ensued. After the x-rays apparently there was a cavity (only my third). They asked if I wanted to have it filled today, which I thought was great. Then I sat in the chair for over a half hour. When I went to find someone to ask what was going on everyone was running around between the different rooms, some were sitting on the exam chairs in conversation with other staff members. I get that there may be things that come up, but I shouldn't be left with no updates or expectations that long. Fast forward and yes, I WAS charged for the x-rays I was told not to worry about. When I called to inquire about it they said no one could speak with me about it I had to send an email...which I figured may be to a billing company, but it was their own gmail account. I don't feel like my time was respected nor did they take the time to fully examine me. It was chaos and I'm now still dealing with the billing because they won't respond to the emails. There seems to be a million dentists in this town. Don't waste your time at this one. read more

They follow up with you for appointments as well as how you're feeling after a procedure. Dr. Soung what can I say the procedure was successful and placing in the anesthesia didn't feel a thing... He personally called me due to my increased fear...lol Dr. Matthews was my next stop following oral surgery wow this team is a family that work so well together.... I was told to expect the procedure to be approximatley 1hr 15min. and that was true. I can't say enough positive things about my experience. Ugh. This felt like a drive through dentist office. Definitely won't be back. Didn't fix the issue but were sure happy to take all my xrays and come up with a treatment plan. The staff was nice but I'm not even kidding when I say they kept repeating themselves over and over. It was odd and unprofessional. The dentist did not seem knowledgeable about a root canal issue I was having and stumbled over her words a bit. She seemed very unsure of a solution. They also never asked for my records from my previous dentist which I thought was odd but maybe that's not common practice nowadays? I have family that works in dentistry up north and they were baffled at some of the things I was told at this visit. Lastly, their office area is wide open and I listened to another patient's conversation about her payment plan and how her husband stopped paying the account etc all while I listened to someone else talking on the phone to another patient. I could see private billing Information pulled up on a screen that was on full display for me and anyone else walking by. Either way, would not recommend this place. read more

I didn't feel any pain and I felt comforted that they knew exactly how to take care of me even with my heart issues. Everyone is super friendly. Unfortunately this isn't a good review but it is what it is. I came to this office for a bad tooth. The office is in a new development area its really nice with large fish tanks in the waiting room. The front desk staff is extremely friendly and even guessed my name when I came in! I loved that! The dentist I met was really nice and she talked about my vacation I was going on and her coming vacation and we even talked about cancer illnesses I had. I felt like I could trust this office. The dentist explained everything she wanted to do and I was excited. She said she needed to pull three teeth to start with her plan for my dental work. One of the women in the front told me my cost would be $199. After the three teeth were pulled I went up front and paid the $199 and she had me sign a form that had that amount on it. There was no other charges told to me. I went on vacation and when I returned the insurance company mailed me the rest of the story this office didn't tell me. This office attempted to charge $750 just to pull the three teeth as well as other charges that totaled just under $1000! I also received a letter from this dentist saying I owed an additional $94!!! I have called the office and asked them to explain these charges and why They didn't explain these charges to me when i was there and they emailed me photocopy where they put together my signature and all those charges. These charges were added AFTER I had signed the form with the fee of $199 and the total amount wasn't going to cover rest of the plan only the three teeth that the dentist talked about. I can't imagine how much they would want for her whole plan if they wanted that much just for pulling three teeth. This is by far the most expensive dentist I have ever been to and the MOST DISHONEST! If they had told me they wanted that much money I wouldn't have gone through with the service. The teeth they pulled was done by the dentist and with one other girl in the office. I wasn't put to sleep and i drove home. I have had "extractions" done before and even with broken teeth that cost less than $100. I would seriously consider other offices before this one. I will never come here again. I can't afford to. To date, they haven't offered to take the additional $94 off my account nor have they attempted to settle this. read more

Been meaning to share my awful experience at this dentist office. I came in because a lady came to my work from the office stating that they were doing free whitening for any new patient. I needed a new dentist so I thought why not I'll go ahead and get the free whitening and a routine appointment. I was there for every bit of two hours as the hygienist poked, prodded and shredded my gums to the point that they were bleeding and sore for days, was told by the dentist that I need jaw surgery and that there are numerous other issues requiring surgery. Walked away feeling like a pin cushion and sales pitched to death. Oh btw, never even got the whitening. They told me I'd have to make another appointment for that. Needless to say I never went back. My new dentist said there are no problems with my jaw or my teeth. ‍ read more

Doctors are okay but the staff that takes care of filing insurance and coordinating paperwork with patients is terrible. They sent me my overdue bill 11 months after the date of service- which now I have to go back and fix They also never properly submitted claim to insurance and I was charged $95 for my visit which should have been covered by insurance in the first place. If I have to do your job for you- what's the point of having office staff. You have one job to do- and can't even do that well. read more

The worst experience ever.... 45 minutes into the appointment time.... 5 x rays done and watched HGTV.... The Hygienist was annoyed that i don't floss and was quite loud about it. I wanted a cleaning done, which i was told I will need a deep cleaning which will cost me XYZ dollars and when i said I wanted a regular cleaning done... which will be covered in my insurance... I was told we will see if we can find a hygienist who will be willing to do it.... Really!!!! who is the customer!!!!! Would never recommend this place. Unprofessional and loud place. read more

They made a point of remembering who I was, providing a great experience and making the dentist an overall enjoyable place to visit. Dr. Novick and his assistant are amazing! They work so well together. I have seen my family dentist for 35 years when he retired. I knew I was going to need a root canal and crown. I was terrified to be changing dentist and especially having major work done. They were very professional and made me feel very comfortable. Unfortunately, we have not had such great luck with their general dentistry. We have seen Dr. Cavnaugh and Dr. Nguyen. I really worked well with Dr.Nguyen. She very personable, made me comfortable and educated me. They have rescheduled 90% of my appointments. It was explained to me that if they do not ha e enough patients scheduled on a day it's not worth it for the dentist to come in. Seriously!? I have had appointments on different days and times and had this happen. I work full time and have two small children. It takes a ton of prep to schedule an option. I am extremely disappointed to be on the dental hunt again:( read more

I brought both my children here for a check up. We waited for over an hour in the waiting room, not a deal breaker but difficult with a 3 and 5 year old. The dentist barely spoke to me, he spoke with the nurse most of the time, mentioned to me that my son needed crowns, had mild to moderate decay, and that a sheet would be brought to me with his treatment plan. The front office nurse brought out a sheet that had 11 teeth listed (he's 5.. that's basically his whole mouth), 6 crowns and 5 fillings that they would treat over 3 appointments. I was extremely caught of guard as we practice good oral hygiene and my son has visited a dentist pretty regularly since he was 2. I asked a couple of friends for recommendations and we scheduled an appointment for a second opinion and had the x-rays transferred over. Our new dentist reviewed the x-rays and said our son does some a little decay on 3 of his back teeth and his two front teeth but they were not bad and no where near the nerve to require a crown. He did recommend getting fillings on them as the 3 back teeth he would have until he was 9 and 12 and the front teeth touch. 6 of the other teeth looked "excellent" and he couldn't figure out why they were listed to have a crown put on 1 and fillings on the others as there was no decay. I am so thankful we got a second opinion and didn't move forward with 6 crowns and 5 fillings (11 total) on a 5 year old who didn't need them! I understand "aggressive treatment" but this is ridiculous. How many parents don't ask for second opinions and move forward with treatment that isn't needed? read more

Called for an endodontist consult, was told they provide a complimentary consult for a possible root canal. Made appointment, went in. At check in, I confirmed again that no payment would be needed as it was free for a consult. Again, while in the dentist chair, I was asked about x-rays. I asked if there was a charge, The nurse/hygenist/whomever was preparing my mouth for the Dr (Novick) told me I would not be charged, that it would be helpful to them, and it would be complimentary. I left with an indefinite solution/diagnosis so I went for a 2nd and 3rd opinion elsewhere. A few weeks later, I received a bill in the mail for $73 for a CONSULT. I called and was told they don't give complimentary consults but they would bill my insurance. My insurance did not pay. Elvira, the "office manager" was very rude and threatened collections. She all out called me a liar and said NOBODY at her office would offer a no charge consult. FURIOUS! read more
