The…read morequality of the groceries, especially meats and cheeses, is outstanding and they carry the bread I like in two packs, meaning that even this single person can buy a reasonable amount and put one in the freezer and one on the counter. The eggs are terrific, you can get pasture-raised, cage free or just standard eggs. The fruit is hit or miss, and the selection of veg is limited but what there is, is excellent. I buy the mini peppers, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, all excellent. Alas, the onions and potatoes are in larger bags than I can use. So I have a friend who likes to split some orders with me. Milk is more difficult, cottage cheese is only in large tubs. Good for a family, not so good if you are a single person or even a duo. There are prepared foods, and party trays. And the sushi is good though it tends to have some kind of hot sauce on it (local preference.) The baked goods are so good, we gift our clients the pies at holiday time, and the cakes are also good. Previously, for our pie giveaway, we had gone up to Costco (a horror show in horror-show Christiana) and the pies weren't any better and were priced a bit more. Getting in and out of Dover Sam's is a piece of cake compared to dealing with Christiana. If you are trying to stretch a dollar or you are doing entertaining, this place is a gold mine. I haven't done much with the non-food items except bought slippers. The dog food is also the one my pooches like and costs less per can. The lines can be long; the self checkout will have an associate to help you and even the full-service line moves quickly. There is "scan and go" but I haven't tried this out (I think you scan items with your phone and it tots up your order as you get ready to depart.) I went two days before Christmas Eve (I know, crazy) and it was quite bearable, though you couldn't get near the rotisserie chickens--the line for the freshly made ones was down an entire aisle. The associates I have dealt with have all been extremely friendly. Summary: If you have a big family or do a great deal of entertaining, the membership will pay for itself many times over. You may find the quality is better than the local grocery store.

Apparently this is the place to buy your lotto tickets and sometimes your standing in line for a while. Cigarettes are consistently the cheapest in town. Valero's rewards membership is also pretty decent. You earn points on purchases that can be redeemed for pretty much anything they sell, including gas. I've been hoarding mine and haven't used any yet. I prefer Valero's gasoline over the alternatives and they're considered a "top tier retailer" alongside Chevron and Shell. I love this place! There's just one problem. The manager(s). I've been coming long here long enough to have encountered two of them. I'm assuming the previous manager left, because I don't see her anymore. She was hostile and I wasn't particularly sad to see her go. However, she pales in comparison to her replacement. The current manager is rude, impatient, and generally difficult to deal with. I avoid coming during the day simply so I don't have to deal with her. Tip of the day: If you're miserable and looking for a fight; don't work in customer service.

This is a major lottery redemption center for the state of Delaware lottery. The employee told me…read morehe was unable to cash a voucher for $283. However if I had brought in the original ticket for $290 they would have had to cash it. So I called the Delaware lottery office and they said that as a courtesy this store should have cashed my voucher because maybe I would have bought other tickets there. And I told them that yes I was planning on doing that. However now that they would not cash my voucher I will not patronize the store again. One good thing is that as of July 1st, according to the lottery office, the stores will have to cash the vouchers as well as the tickets or they will lose their ability to be a major lottery cashing center.

We ordered DayQuil and cough drops, expecting exactly that... but when our bag arrived, it also included two packets of honey and a handwritten note that said, "Hope you feel better soon!!" That tiny act of kindness completely made our night. It was thoughtful, unexpected, and honestly just the sweetest thing after a long travel week. Thank you for reminding us that customer service isn't dead -- it's alive, well, and apparently working the late shift at Wawa. We'll never forget this
