The ambiance was outstanding. The workers were super friendly. The food (I had a chopped pork sandwich with Cole slaw and ordered baby back ribs just to try them. Wow. This barbque was better than most places I have visited in the south. Great quality, portions and sauces. I see there are quite a few of them so I can't speak for them. I was surprised by the complex flavor of Green collard and love "bold" sauce. Our group were trying each other's food. The brisket is juicy and tender. We had a great experience at Mission BBQ....the food is always good but on this visit it was the service that was over the top!!! We were traveling through Dover and met my nephew who is in the Air Force and met us for lunch. They were so friendly especially Jamie and Renee who came over and gave us some cobbler and made us and my nephew feel special for his service. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I wasn't really impressed. I got the 2 meat sampler with brisket and pulled pork. The brisket was ok but the pulled pork wasn't pulled or even shredded, it was the consistency of saw dust and almost as dry. It had ok flavor but not strands of anything, just almost liked crumbled bacon bits but no where near as flavorful. Baked beans were overly sweet but not with brown sugar but rather a bad ketchup flavor. My kid had a bottled soda ($4!!!) and a brisket sandwich that was about 50% sauce. Sadly, my wife had the best entree of the evening, salmon! She asked for Italian dressing but was given ranch instead. Not a deal breaker but not one person walked away thinking their meal was great. The people working there seemed very nice and attentive, the place was clean, and the tables were all wiped down and well stocked with sauce but the food wasn't something I would go out of my way for. I don't think I am really missing much if I don't come back again. Dropped $58 and had to stop for a Chipwich from Wawa to at least make the outing end on a good note. read more

Where to start? I am in the area only for a night and was looking for a good place to eat. I stumbled across this restaurant and it looked appealing so I came. What initially drew me to. It was the fact that it was military focused, which I appreciate as our service members give so much of their time and their lives to our country that I like businesses that realize this. Plus I like all kinds of BBQ. So I walked here (it's cold outside btw) and was immediately greeted by a warm, friendly environment. The staff was not rushed even though they were busy. Each one took the time to talk with me, answer questions, give recommendations, and they all thanked me for my military service. The food was wonderful, and their homemade sauces just hit a home run. I had the pulled pork sandwich North Carolina style (coleslaw on top) and used their Tupelo Honey Heat sauce. It sweet and hot and was so good, I am buying a bottle to travel with. I got the baked beans which were smokey and sweet, and their Mac and cheese. I also have a peach cobbler to eat in a few hours as soon as room is available in my tummy. Even their Dr. Pepper was good, not watered down like many places these days. I am glad to find out that this is a privately owned company and they have many locations. Very delicious meat, but also too oily. The brisket was delicious, but it was so oily I was full all the way through to the next day. I guess it is very fiscally responsible to eat here and be full next 24 hours and not eat anything else, but seriously, it can't be good for my heart. Mac & cheese - delicious brisket - very delicious and soft Potato salad and fries were all good. All in all, food here is great. if you search the best food place in Dover, this place keeps popping up, that is why I tried this place. But the amount of oil that was floating in the bottom of my container was alarming. It was so much it could cook several days worth of stir fry dinner. We've enjoyed having lunch here 2 times in a few months. I hardly ever give a review but after today's experience, I just had to share our experience. We've traveled across America 13 times and have stopped to eat at many restaurants but we feel the team at Mission BBQ is outstanding. The food is great too but the people who work here are incredible. We can't say enough about their positive upbeat service. I ate here in January while visiting my dad who was in the nearby hospital. The food was amazing. Every bit of it was on point and really hit the spot. The manager was kind enough to let me have some blueberry pie on the house. That was also epic. A great experience, wonderful staff and terrific food. We was very impressed with the decor when we walked in, it bought back memories when i was served in the Army. The service is fast and courteous, and when we got our food and tasted it sheer delight. One of my favorite foods is Texas brisket in a mop sauce. From the moment I walk into a barbeque restaurant I want to smell the smoky wood and allow my appetite to go into overdrive. High hopes when the boyfriend said were eating at "Mission BBQ". As soon as we walked into Mission BBQ there was no smoky wood aroma . Let down. I ordered the "Texas inspired" Oak smoked brisket sandwich with a side of green beans and bacon. This brisket was dry, stringy, and tough. The sauces on the table were pretty beat and nothing tasted like "mop sauce". Good barbeque never really needs sauce. But you will need the sauce in order to get the meat down your throat because its that dry. The green beans and bacon side item was tasty. My boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and mac n cheese. He enjoyed his pork sandwich . We both agreed the mac n cheese was not super flavorful or cheesy. Super letdown with Mission BBQ. In Bridgeville, DE, go ahead I dare you to try Fat Daddys brisket! There were nice things about this restaurant. The employees were very nice and helpful. It's nice that it honors the military, especially being so close to Dover Air Force Base. However, not knowing that it was a place where you place your order at the counter, get your own drink, and then find a table, we met family there, and were looking forward to sitting down at a table with wait service. The food was good, but not great. For the money, it was a decent meal. However, the quality of the food did not inspire us to make a 45-minute return trip. read more
