I grabbed the food, paid for it on a kiosk, and went back to the car to eat. Hubs went to use the restroom and grab a coffee. When I started to go through the bag, I realized no sauces were in the bag and sandwich looked less appealing than a prison sandwich. Hubs went back in for me to get the sauces and I was given ranch instead of garlic aioli but the Chesapeake sauce was correct. The food was just not worth the price or the carbs. I was no longer hungry but also still craving an empty satisfaction. This was the first place we came across after driving for a while with no civilization in sight. Next time, I will be searching for other options if I am in the same predicament. Maybe I went on an off day or maybe they are known for other foods. I asked for the pepper relish and the banana pepper slices on the side. What was made for pickup, however, were two soggy, sorry excuses for a sandwich. So much vinegar, all I could taste was vinegar. Now I love vinegar--this is a gal who has six kinds of vinegar in the pantry but I want to taste sandwich, not just the dressing. There was almost no provolone on my sandwich and minimal roast beef hiding in the crease. It looked scared; and I don't blame it. The acid bath was something out of a horror film. And of course the bread barely survived the deluge of dressing, soggy. And barely any crunchy water, I mean, lettuce or onions. And the pepper relish and slices were ON the sandwich not on the side as requests. The interior could probably benefit from some fresh paint and a little updating, but it also had that nostalgic charm that diners sometimes have. It wasn't dirty at all--in fact it was clean overall--but everything felt a bit worn and dated. At one point I even noticed one of the registers was missing the credit card scanner, which gave the whole setup a slightly "held together with experience" vibe. My wife even joked that the place made her a little nervous and said she might prefer Waffle House instead--which is saying something! But we decided to stick it out and give it a fair try. And honestly, we're really glad we did. We went all in on the breakfast menu. I ordered the Lumberjack Slam, which is basically the "everything possible on one plate" breakfast.
