So this was my first time at a Wawa. Huns from the east coast so he told me I had to try their sub sandwiches. We don't have these in the PNW and I wish they did. Truthfully, I do not like sandwiches and do not eat them if I had a choice, unless it's a Vietnamese Banh mi. We went in and you can customize your sandwich on the kiosk and they make it for you. Grabbed our Agua fresca that he is obsessed with, paid and waited for our order. We shared the sandwich because I never finish and it was surprisingly good and such a cheap meal. Just thinking about it, I'm craving a Wawa sandwich. Overall, it's clean here, there's seating outside and super convenient. Better than hitting up a fast food joint. I'll be back again soon.

Fresh Wawa is a relatively new gas station/convenience store business in the area, and are known for very competitive gas prices, free ATMs, and food. I stopped in today at lunch to enjoy and review one of their sandwiches. Sandwiches are made to order, using fresh breads and ingredients. This was my first visit to this recently opened station, but I already knew the process. I have spent time in Eastern PA where Wawa is the dominate station/store and have eaten my weight in their sandwiches, back when I weighed less. You start by using one of their kiosks. I selected sandwiches, cold, and Italian. That specifies the meat(s) you want, then you select the toppings. So many options...so, so many. Once you have finally described your perfect sandwich, you press submit. A piece of paper is printed, which you take to a regular cashier in the store and pay. You get to keep the piece of paper, it has a number. You go back to where they make the sandwiches, and once they call your number you go up and get your food. For me the wait was only a minute or two after I finished paying. As for service, the cashier seemed nice, the sandwich maker was heading back to make more food by the time I reached the sandwich she sat on the counter for me. I didn't see any seats inside, but they do have a few tables outside, which is where I headed. The sandwich was very good. If it wasn't, I would only have myself to blame, as it was exactly as I ordered it. While I'm more a person who likes to order at the macro level and have the food constructors assemble it as they see fit, taking a micro approach was ok. Could have used some mayo, my bad - lol.

I've never had a bad WaWa experience. This one didn't disappoint. Wish these were in the Northern Kentucky area.

Much has changed over the decades since the Mira Mar Hotel was constructed here, back in the 1920s. During the hotel's glory days, it was a fav vacay destination for an American president. But mid-century saw Palm Avenue's decline. Even then, howev, the Mira Mar was the living, breathing (or maybe, at that time, just wheezing) embodiment of shabby chic, long b4 the term existed. When I was a teen, in the 1970s, I was enchanted by the hotel's by-then-hushed terraces -- dappled as they were in sunshine and shadow -- and the open architecture of what, at that time, were low-rent apartments. During those years, welfare recipients lived at the Mira Mar Hotel. Today, all that remains of it is a portion of the old hotel's Palm Avenue-facing facade. Meanwhile, a condo tower, under development for more than a decade already, promises residences priced at around $2 million. But even if u aren't a millionaire, Palm Avenue Express is likely to have what u require, including, for a few examples, chilled beer and wine, postcards, Advil, and Lord only knows what u may find on the shelves there. For an example, my darling daughter has a mane of unruly hair, and I found a box of big hair pins for her at the Palm Avenue Express. And when I stopped in there today, I found a bar of lemon-scented bath soap. This store is owned by the same fellers who own the adjacent Salon Forty-One. And on the sidewalk outside, small tables -- shaded by elaborate landscaping and bright-red umbrellas, which also protect against summer-afternoon rainstorms -- invite patrons to sit a spell.
