My ladies who are regular waxers know that this experience can only go two ways horrifically and excruciatingly wrong or per Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City you can leave feeling like walking sex. I know this can be a scary process for some. So I included a few tips that helped me before I became a pro..LoL This was probably one of the most painless waxes I've ever had. I've tried quite a few waxing spas since relocating to DC and have yet to find one that I would return to until now. The process was really quick and Akyea had me feeling like a Victoria's Secret Angel. A few tips for my first timers: 1) Take a pain reliever before going. Pop an Ibuprofen an hour before your appointment to dull the pain. 2)Trim your hair down. (Not too short) If it's longer, it will be more painful and if it's too short it will be hard for the esthetician to wax it. 3) Try to avoid booking an appointment in the week leading up to your period. Victoria has been telling me about Sugar Baby for a while and I was excited to try it. Sugar Baby is upstairs at Balance Gym. I have been to a few other nail salon places to get brazilian waxes, and this is by far the best. I found it using a groupon and think it's worth paying more for less pain. I don't know how she does it, but I barely flinched the whole time. My hair didn't regrow for atleast 1-2 weeks. I also didn't have any stray hairs that were missed. Such a great job! THE ENTRANCE IS THROUGH BALANCE GYM! They don't have a sign so it was initially a little difficult for me to find but you go into balance gym and sign in and they'll take you up to Sugar baby waxing's suite. So the first thing you should know about Sugar Baby Wax it is NOT sugar waxing! Which is what I thought I was getting until half way through the appointment. Normally I hate waxing because it's so painful but Akeya 1000% changed my mind about all waxing hurting. This was the least painful wax I've ever had and she was so sweet and walked me through the process. This was my first Brazilian wax in several years (I had switched to sugaring because of low my pain tolerance) but I cannot reiterate enough how so surprised at how PAINLESS she was! I just had the best first waxing experience ever. I am never going back to shaving ! I have THE MOST sensitive skin - and I am prone to cysts all over my body. Easily the best waxing experience I have had in my 7 years of getting Brazilians. I was a long time patron of Red Door Spa (Mynd) until they went bankrupt during COVID. I was very nervous about waxing again as I had stopped during the pandemic and had even broken down and shaved at one point, so I thought my first wax since then would be super painful, but Akeya is THE BEST. This place is the holy grail you've been looking for! I have gone to quite a few of the top rated salons in downtown DC hoping to find someone who can do a decent job and avoid ingrown hairs. So far they have all been disappointments. After 3 visits I feel comfortable saying Akeya is amazing. My first requirement - I MAYBE have 1 or 2 ingrown hairs if at all, which is a huge difference from before. But beyond that she and the experience are a joy. Her suite is like walking into a mini-spa and she works hard to cultivate that atmosphere. She is attentive and thorough, checking for ingrown hairs before and tweezing after. There's minimal discomfort and quite honestly we are usually chatting so much that I barely notice. I made this the home for my dreadful Brazilians after I read the Yelp reviews. This is the place I got my first Brazilian, so I can't really compare the experience to anything else. Akeya is always nice, personable, and makes the process quick and easy. However, there are a few things I don't like about this place. First of all, I hate the location! Having to go through the gym and sign a waiver with them bothers me. I wish they had a better system or their own standalone location. Secondly, when you get upstairs, no one is there to greet you. Now I know it is because they are busy with another client, but on my first day it was awkward. I sat there for about 5 minutes questioning if I was in the right place, or if I made the proper appointment. Of course, those two things have nothing to do with the actual wax itself! The whole Brazilian Process was quick and Painless...Yup Painless!! My pain tolerance is very low so I was very shocked. I think I anticipated way more pain than I experienced. I was so nervous, just signing the waiver made me break into sweats! LOL I read something about "skin ripping and getting stitches" o_O and for a second I had to rethink my life! Like seriously The girl was really nice and put me at ease. She was fast, efficient and explains everything as she goes which makes it slightly better. This is my first time visiting the Georgetown Location since the esthetician I was beginning to [kinda] love in Alexandria just randomly left [no email no call, no update on the website] and I went to her regularly [trying to stay consistent/I have sensitive skin]. The GT location was very warm and inviting. It was definitely a lot easier to feel relaxed here. I went to see Shereja for the first time and she was just as great as everyone else on Yelp described her. I really appreciated her professionalism and great customer service [I'm and Ohio girl and a stickler for good CS]. Shereja was super fast and the wax was super painless. I don't know how I was dealing with waxing before in Alexandria. Shereja made me feel comfortable and the wax hardly hurt. My last esthetician would leave me sore and very sensitive.
