Dr. Waxman too very good care of my teeth while I was a patient during the spring of 2012. It meant a lot to me to find a specialist who was so caring, efficient and had a great staff. As a young, single woman, the procedures that I had were expensive, even with insurance, and I was glad that his office offered to let me split payments and work out arrangements. I even wrote this glowing review of your office on Yelp: "...after visiting his office a total of five or six times for follow ups, I can say that it's one of the best. Dr. Waxman is very nice and very gentle and very willing to explain things and make sure that you are not in pain..." I held his office in high esteem and, before January 2014, would have said that Ms. Laura Gonzales was a big part of why his office works so well. Laura was the person I interacted with the most to schedule appointments, make payments and discuss bills. She was always professional and even friendly. Until Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, when I had a very unpleasant phone exchange with an obviously exasperated Gonzales. She was rude from the get-go, telling me that I needed to pay approximately $122 immediately. I wasn't aware that I had a remaining balance, since I'd already paid the office so much while the procedures were being done and sending a couple of checks after the fact. (Another reviewer that Yelp "didn't recommend" had a similar experience with this office.) Gonzales was short with me when I asked if I could settle the bill for less, since I had been out of work for months. (Other providers have been willing to do this.) She offered to take off $22. I tried to negotiate more, asking her if she would accept 50 percent of the balance, and she snapped, huffed, cut me off, raised her voice and did everything but call me names. In short, she was rude. Very rude. She was nasty. She belittled. She was snarky. She threatened to send the bill to collections when I tried to explain that I couldn't pay $100 immediately. I asked to speak to someone else and she refused. Eventually, she hung up in my face. I called back and again asked to speak to someone else and she spit out, "I don't know what else you expect me to say!" I'm sure Gonzales has worked for this office for a while and that she was normally competent at her job. Before that phone conversation, I would have said that she was an asset to your office. I don't know if Gonzales was having a bad day, or if something was going on outside of the office, but $100 should never make a person act as rudely to another person as she was to me that day. I'm not arguing that I didn't owe money, or that I shouldn't be expected to pay the money. (I settled the balance over the next 4 months.) I'm arguing that the manner in which the money was collected was unnecessarily harsh, rude and dehumanizing. read more

Dr. Burton and his staff are fantastic! My dentist that I was seeing could not find the source of tooth pain so I contacted Dr. Burton's office on my own accord based on reviews I have read. Within 10 minutes he diagnosed the pain and outlined a plan to cure it. Due to some anxiety about dental work in general, it took me 2 visits to complete the procedure and for the record, my anxiety was worse than the procedure itself. He and his staff are very understanding, courteous and before, after and during the procedure you remain with a sense that they do care about you and your health and they listen and address your concerns as a patient. Hopefully, I will never need another root canal or endodontist procedure but If I do I will be seeing Dr. Burton again with much less anxiety than I had before my procedure. Jesus be a root canal specialist! Well.... He made a way for me to see Dr. Waxman instead! Lol. I've been having minor issues with a crown on tooth #4. The crown was placed when I was in college, the root canal was done about 5 years prior to that when I was in high school. So I brush at least twice a day, floss after every meal, and religiously get my cleanings every 6 months! I vowed never to have another root canal again in life! My primary dentist and I have discussed replacing the crown and I was prepared to start the process on my appointment scheduled for next week. On Thursday evening, much to my chagrin, I started to experience severe pain in tooth #4 so much that I couldn't even eat. After leaving work, I left a message on the emergency line with my dentist and prayed that he would call me back. He never did.... So yelp to the rescue! At 5 am I was directed to a Dr. Mazursky and lo and behold he called me back! He examined me and sent me right over to Dr. Waxman for an evaluation of a suspected failed root canal. He explained that the crown was apparently fine. Dr. Waxman's staff contacted me to see if I wouldn't mind coming in sooner than the 1230 appointment that was set up for me. Heck yeah, I took my happy tail right over there. They were having a busy morning, but fit me right in. Dr. Waxman did a quick and thorough exam, giving me 2 options for treatment. Then he gave me a dose of antibiotics and took a 3D image of the tooth in question to confirm his suspicions. We proceeded with option #2 and began a revision of my previous root canal. My worst nightmare! However, it was relatively painless and I was relaxed the whole time. His dental assistant Judy (I think) was so kind and comforting. The only negative thing that occurred was one of the assistants caught an attitude because I asked for an estimate prior to receiving services, and she had to call my insurance company. I guess she thought I was out of ear shot and she had some not so nice comments about the ____ ____ who requests that sort of thing. Judy promptly apologized for her and explained that they were unusually busy and that particular person was having some personal issues. So I let it slide. We all have our days and say things we shouldn't say at work. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with Dr. Waxman and the assistant that worked by his side. I really could've been set up, so I'm thankful! I'll be going back for the second stage with no apprehension. read more

From start to finish, I had an excellent experience with Dr. Waxman himself and everyone working in his office. I've been 3 times in the past month or so to re-do a root canal that an old dentist mishandled. I find it really difficult to find reviews on doctors (review more of them, Yelpers!!), but Rob's review, Dr. Waxman's web site, and his name on the Best of Baltimore list several years in a row gave me the confidence to check him out. When I found out I needed the root canal re-done, I was getting ready to travel and was also having issues with a filling I recently had done. I made an appointment for the root canal consultation, but Dr. Waxman did an extremely thorough job checking out my other teeth as well to make sure that I wasn't going to have any issues before I traveled out of the country. It made me feel so much better that I wasn't going to be in pain before my trip or need to have an emergency procedure before I left. For me, the worst part of any dental procedure is the shots in the mouth. It just seems WRONG and freaks me out! Dr. Waxman was so talented with his shots, it was the easiest I've ever experience and he had to numb me on two different occasions. The procedures went well (I had it done in two parts). I never experienced any pain during the actual root canal and was content watching HGTV on the flat screen in the ceiling above the chair. Dr. Waxman and his assistants made me feel relaxed and frequently checked in on me to make sure I was comfortable. I am a total wuss when it comes to all things medical, but the staff at the office just made me feel so comfortable. It is a small, homey office, and they make you feel like family. Dr. Waxman is very thorough, he spent a lot of time talking to me about the issues with my tooth, and he always made sure I had pain meds if needed and antibiotics to prevent infection. Since I relocated to the area about 6 years ago, I've sometimes struggled to find good doctors, so I'm relieved to have a good endodontist should any other issues come up. read more

Ok short and suite. If you need a root canal, do not go anywhere else. Dr Waxman fixed a root canal that was 6 years old and never capped. He also did a second where I had an infection and tough root bends. He and his staff are awesome and will take care of you from start to finish. Ok - dentists freak me out a little. So, when I ended up busting a chunk off a molar over the weekend, it was a high-stress situation for sure. Even worse was hearing those dreaded words from my primary dentist - "We're referring you for a root canal." Not only did Dr. Waxman's office get me in the next day (they had a cancellation, and offered up the spot immediately), but they got the referral from my regular dentist arranged with no problem. Dr. Waxman himself was very personable, and when I explained how stressed out I was, he took the time to walk me through the whole procedure. Throughout the entire process, he was very patient, explained every step of where he was, and kept asking to make sure I was still cool with what was going on. From the topical through the temporary filling, I got a running update of what he was doing. Very reassuring, and turned what could have been a bad situation into a non-event. Excellent work, too. No pain during the procedure itself. Returned home with only minor discomfort. read more

As a former employee of Dr. Waxman, I can attest of what an incredible practitioner he is. Not only is he a thorough specialist, but he was a great employer. He treats he staff as well as he treats his patients. He never lets a patient in-need of an emergency procedure wait...as I can say firsthand all of the times (most days) where he and the rest of the staff stayed after hours to treat someone who was in pain. At the end of the day, it's obvious that his passion is for helping people. I would only recommend that you trust Dr. Waxman's chairside manners, expertise and knowledge when it comes to needing root canal treatment or opinion when it comes to this type of procedure. Like everyone else here said, Dr. Waxman and his staff are the absolute best! I was referred to him by a local dentist after a previous root canal became abscessed. I was told by dentists that the tooth would have to be pulled, but not Dr. Waxman. Dr. Waxman pretty much said, "No reason to pull it, we can fix it." I was shocked and greatly pleased. His staff is awesome and extremely helpful. They also have a sense of humor, which is nice, since often times any doctor's offices are less than fun. It took a few trips, but, everything was sorted out. He was always professional and understanding. Plus, he has a lot of cool tech that he uses throughout (if you're curious about what the different things blinking, beeping and such are really for). I should also make note -- he has really good aim with the lidocaine (no one uses Novocaine anymore...) injection. He pre-numbs you with this paste, then in one shot your face is pretty much numb. I've never had anyone have such good aim with getting me numb in so few tries. There are TVs on the ceiling to help you pass the time while he works. I brought my ipod and put headphones in while he worked. Helped me control drowning out the drill. I was numbed up and comfortable enough I practically fell asleep every visit. Totally awesome. I would recommend him to anyone, anytime! read more

I just got my very first root canal by Dr. Waxman and I was so pleased with how easy it was. He numbed me very good, explained everything to me as he went. If you need a straightforward root canal, Dr. Waxman can do a good job for you. If there is any thing unusual, he's less than useful. My tooth hurt more after he performed a root canal on it than it did before. I called into the office and was told it was my fault it hurt, I must not have been rinsing it with salt water after eating (but I was already doing all that they had suggested). I lived with increasing pain and sleepless nights for over a month before I called back. Again, he didn't want to see me but did prescribe antibiotics that helped a lot. But a month or so after the antibiotics were gone, my gums again were hurting along one side of this tooth. This time he had me come in and took 3-D x-rays, jabbed my sore gums and said nothing was wrong. The tooth just needed time to settle down. He started me on a monthly adventure of drilling through the crown and adding antiseptic to help the area "settle down". It was very painful. After 4 months or so, he said I was better and didn't schedule more visits. But a couple months after the last addition of antiseptic to the area, my tooth was hurting again so I called in. His wife/receptionist said she couldn't see how anything could be bothering me, but did allow me to have an appointment 10 days later. At this appointment, Dr. Waxman used the word 'psychological' at least 4 times to describe my pain and fear of infection. Again he said I needed to wait out the year. I was fine, he said. So I finally got a clue and went to a real endodontist, who took a CAT scan of the area and immediately said, "Your tooth is cracked along the side and the gum is infected." I believe Dr. Waxman cracked my tooth doing the root canal because I didn't have this gum pain or infection before the procedure. I don't know if he is just inept at reading his 3-D x-rays or if he needs new equipment, but his treatment of me was unconscionable. He made me suffer a full year, drilled repeatedly on my sore tooth, and risked my health with an ongoing infection. I am a senior citizen with underlying medical conditions that he was aware of, but he still downplayed my pain as psychological fear on my part that he could ignore. And I now need an implant. Truly, you should look elsewhere for competent care. You can do better than this place. read more

I needed a root canal done on a tooth with a long root that had a serious bend in it that my normal dentist couldn't take care of. After reading all the good reviews, I decided to give Dr. Waxman a try, and I was glad I did. He and his staff are quite professional and want to ensure that you are comfortable and pain free when they start their process. During the 1.5hrs I was in the chair, Dr. Waxman would periodically tell me what he was doing and why. I find this practice of informing the patient of what the Dr. is doing very reassuring. All in all it was as good an experience as you can have when having a root canal done. read more

I just had my first root canal and I almost fell sleep on the chair. Doctor Burton is awesome, very professional and it was easier than filling a cavity. I cannot say enough about Dr. Waxman and his staff. They are wonderful! I was terrified with it being my first root canal (and hopefully the last), but he and his staff were great putting me at ease after explaining the process. I felt nothing during and no pain afterwards at all, so it was really just a long process. He tested things out in the beginning to make sure the numbing was just right, which it was. His office also has tv screens on the ceiling, which greatly put you at ease also. I watched HGTV throughout the whole procedure. He is awesome and I would definitely recommend! read more

Love, love, love Dr. Waxman and his entire staff! They are funny and made me feel relaxed during the entire process, putting my nerves at ease! Laura at the front desk was SO helpful and pleasant in explaining to me the insurance payment process (and co-pays, etc.), so I would not be surprised if I received a bill later. I did have some questions after I received my EOB from the insurance company, and Laura was more than helpful and courteous in explaining everything! My dentist told me I needed a consultation with an endodonist because of a complicated root canal. I checked online and found Dr. Waxman near my home. I also saw that Dr. Waxman had lived in Cumberland, Md., where I had also lived for a few years. So I called and set up an appointment. I could not have found a better practice. I echo all the previous excellent reviews of Dr Waxman and his staff. Terrific folks! But I want to add one additional service that Dr. Waxman rendered for me. He found through a 3D X-ray (it is amazing if you haven't had one yet!) that I had a large cyst in my upper jaw which would require oral surgery. His office suggested a couple names and I found one that would work with my insurance. By the time I made my first consult with the oral surgeon, Dr. Waxman had already contacted him and explained what he had found. I was most impressed! I had not expected a doctor who would take the initiative to call another doctor and fill him in on my medical situation. My dentist has sent me again to Dr. Waxman and we are working on a strategy to deal with another tooth in crisis. If you need an endodontist, I highly and without reservation recommend Dr. Waxman to you! read more

First of all, I would like to echo the other reviewers about Dr Waxman. His ability and skill is really top-notch. And I can't say enough for his bedside manners. Really a wonderful doctor. However, where they fall short is in their office management. After a few months post root canal , I received a call from their contracted debt collector. I was unaware of a balance since I paid in full at the time of the visit. This debt collector was not only rude but also threatened my family. I tried to discuss this with Laura in Dr Waxman office but her tone was very accusatory and not understanding . And although the practice claimed to have sent me many notices, I received none of them. This could be an oversight on their end, but the tone and attitude in trying to resolve this was not appreciated. To give some context, I am completely aware of how insurance and payments work and would have been amenable to resolving this issue with the office. But my advice to others is that don't go through the headache of having to battle your bill. There are many other practices that help their patients and do not resort to abusive debt collectors. read more
