Such kind people! I had lost one of the end pieces to my belly button ring and was in a real bind without it. When I entered the shop, there was another person ahead of me who was explaining her situation. She was really upset because she wasn't able to put her nose ring in because she had left it out too long. The technician was so kind to her and said that putting her (large) jewelry back in would tear the tissue but he helped her find a compromise that would allow her to eventually insert the jewelry she wanted. He was similarly kind to me when I showed him my dilemma with my missing end. He helped me in less than 2 minutes and I was on my way. However when I called to get advice on an irritation bump the person on the phone was very unprofessional and seemed annoyed I was calling. Glad I stumbled upon this location. I had been here once before to see if they would/could help me and save my bellybutton piercing from rejecting. The owner of the shop I remembered so clearly because that day I felt no willingness to help!! I think the issue with this shop is the general attitude. If you aren't covered in tattoos probably they will not give you much of a chance to try explain yourself. It's probably best I wasn't in the mood to chicken out...and I suppose the manager isn't employed to hold your hand either....there is a large display of matter of fact rules and inputs from the manager on the wall...so I would suppose the off putting attitude is the goal. I got tattooed by Duong every few months for a year and a half and he is clearly a very talented artist. I really love his style. I've seen a lot of the reviews talking about customer service at this tattoo shop but let me put it this way. My first ever tattoo experience (and second) was at a different shop in dc. Higher rated, and they obviously knew how to make customers feel good and were friendly. I was younger then and looking back, the tattoo wasn't good. It wasn't bad but the lines were all off, the tattoo artist made several inappropriate jokes trying to hit on me, and now realizing it was way over priced. For the longest time I tried to ignore those things because hey, all the staff for the most part were really nice and friend, always came in and left feeling satisfied with my interactions. After contemplating on my bad tattoo for a while I walked in to way of ink and met with Duong. Let me tell you I asked other artists before to maybe fix/ do over my tattoo (which is a whole leg sleeve by the way not a small one) and unsurpsingly a lot of artists just don't want to touch up or do over others' works for many reasons. Not only is Duong brave for taking my crappy leg sleeve on, but he has the talent to make it 100000x better. Before it looked decent. Now it looks SICK and continues to look SICKER. read more

My mom and I stopped in randomly to get an ear piercing and they were able to take us on the spot. Shortly after we walked in, another dude walked in the door and was huffing down our backsides. Clearly impatient, he went looking around for someone to speak to and totally disregarded my mother and I waiting up front to fill out the forms. This dude immediately copped an attitude with Daniel, and Daniel handled it SO professionally. He was calm cool and collected and certainly made us feel welcome in the space. Eventually the dude left after raising his voice and acting like an idiot. Working in customer service myself, it was a great experience and Daniel handled a really rude person gracefully. I went in for a simple lettering with the owner. He was busy so he pushed me off to another person that works the front as well. I was nervous as I never seen his work but thought how bad could you messed up small letters? The color of the letters are supposed to be red but they are purple, he told me it looked like that because of the mixture of the red paint and blue ink of the stencil. It has been weeks and it is still purple. The letters are all uneven in size and width. Some of the letters are blotchy and lines are not clean. Waste of money because I have to get it removed or covered. read more

Me and my partner went about a month ago for a simple tattoo. We got paired with Daniel he said that he had a hour exactly to do both our tattoos. When I was getting it done he used the same needle that he outlined with to shade my tattoo. Which hurt so much more i didn't realize till after it was done that he NEVER changed it. He seemed to be rushed. From the moment I took off the wrapping I realized that it was patchy already, attached to this is the picture from the moment i got it to how it healed and how it looks like right now (I do have other tattoo none of them have ended up like this I took care of it the way he told me too).The tattoo is all healed now and it looks like i've had it for more than a year. My partners tattoo was not that bad but definitely looks a lil faded. I definitely have cried over this tattoo I hate the way it looks and now I definitely have to get a touch up. read more

This shop is not good. It's over priced even for simple designs. I recently got a tattoo with my sister of two flowers and both of our tattoos look awful. Steer clear of Kevin. He did a horrible job and can't even do straight lines. Although I've gotten two other tattoos from different artists in this shop I will not be returning. How I have gone this long without putting in a good word for my man, Duong, is beyond me. He is the real deal. I spent a year researching for artists who could render a dragon phoenix sleeve for me and had decided on a high school friend of mine with his own studio in Northern VA. But after a 9 month wait, he canceled and rescheduled me three times. I'm very understanding and patient but there's a limit. The third time I was contacted about moving my date, I moved on. I messaged Duong after doing more research and viewing his art on Yelp and Instagram. He called me in to his shop to talk through the concept. Immediately, I noticed that he was genuinely listening and understood what I was going for. In fact, he built on my idea and made some suggestions. He said he'd have a drawing in a week and to come back then. I really thought I was being taken for another ride until he called me up to tell me it was ready to look at. I came in, saw the sketch and booked my appointment - 6 months of additional waiting time! But man oh man, was it worth it. I sat for two 4-5 hour sessions, two weeks apart. He was efficient and only talked as much as you wanted to, which was appreciated because at about hour 3-4, I wasn't feeling like talking anymore. But he puts on Netflix and only takes breaks when you need one. During my first session, he only broke for lunch and it lasted all of 15 min. That other artist I referred to took a 15 min break every 20 min with my wife's tattoo! The shop itself has about three studios and a couple artists working alongside Duong. I overheard some consultations during my sessions and they are very upfront and honest about what they can and cannot do, what their prices are and what they're willing to bargain for. It's very fair and without the condescending attitude I am used to from other shops. This was certainly true for me. Duong honored the quote he gave me during our consultation. No per hour charge, no jacked up fees. Just exactly what he said it would cost. And proof is in the pudding. The tat is gorgeous and gets a lot of compliments. And I've run into people who have his art on their limbs who echo the same thoughts I have. And I don't hesitate to recommend him when friends look to get inked. Looking forward to a return visit. read more

I don't know how honest these folks at Way of Ink are. At the very least they do not care at all about your satisfaction as a customer. This was an enormously unpleasant experience with a very unprofessional and hateful staff member. I do believe there's a possibility that my jewelry I went in with was 'mishandled.' I'll just leave it at that. You can draw your own conclusions. When he removed my nose ring he yanked on my face so hard that I was sure I was bleeding! He didn't cover his nose with his mask. I posted some photos of my tattoo....during the three month healing process and after....please feel free to browse! I was DEEPLY DISAPPOINTED with the tattoo I received on my birthday, back in February 2011. The tattoo was excruciating, the healing process was excruciating, I've NEVER had a tattoo hurt so bad and take months to heal. I'm scarred for life. It looks like a branding tattoo, it's horrible. This tattoo was the beginning of a tribute half-sleeve, to my mother and my uncle, incorporating my favorite flowers. They're survivors and I love them dearly. I saw them a few weeks ago and never ONCE mentioned my tattoo, it's embarrassing. The prices were great, but, now I'm paying a lot more to have my tattoo redone, completely. I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me, since the majority of people are giving a five star rating and have nothing but good things to say about this shop. I have the tattoo to back up my review, and it's not pretty. Considering my tattoo is in CLEAR VIEW of my daily activities.....it annoys me EVERY single day! A constant reminder of a place that doesn't care about their customers, some....but not all. I just wanted to clarify a few things. Maybe I can save a few people from years of agony and grief. First of all.....Thanks for nothing, Brian....you have no business tattooing anyone, EVER! Also, thank you Duong for not even TRYING to fix the problem. If you're so proud of your cover up tattoos......why haven't you offered to cover up MINE? I was a paying customer at YOUR SHOP. Trust me, when people see my tattoo, I let them know, (believe it or not) it WAS done in a professional shop, giving them the name of the shop. I have nothing good to say about your establishment. Sometimes, we make stupid decisions when it comes to getting a tattoo that wasn't carefully thought about... and I was guilty of making that mistake. I've heard of Way of Ink from a few acquaintances, and I came into the shop to make an appointment with Duong to get my mistake covered up. I came in today to have my cartilage piercing removed. My ear was badly infected and had bumps forming. (I did not get my piercings done here, I wish I had though) Daniel was very knowledgeable and removed them quickly, informed me what to do after and was kind enough to tell me to come back so he can check and make sure everything's good. I really like this shop! I am very careful about choosing which shops to go to. It's been years since my last tattoo (since I moved here from Louisiana) and I was really wanting a new tattoo and to find a new artist. I'm very anxious and read as many reviews as I could and sought out recommendations for shops all around here. Numerous times Way of Ink was mentioned so I decided on a whim one day to stop in and check them out. So glad I did! Duong is very kind and easy to talk to. He gave me his contact info and I sent references. Within a week he was telling me to stop by and check out the drawing he did for me. I loved it! From there we made an appointment and I came back. It's been only a few days but I'm so in love with my pumpkin tattoo! Duong is very easy going and gets right to work, he is quick! Do not confuse that with rushing, I never felt rushed. I was genuinely surprised it didn't take forever, and also thankful. He did an amazing job. I appreciate the fact he didn't stop repeatedly or need long drawn out breaks like other artists I've seen in the past. Price was super reasonable as well.
