The good: I came here yesterday and was able to visit the chapel without any weddings going on. There were two folks inside maybe during meditation hour. The grass is picturesque and perfectly green. The view of Abalone Cove beach area was gorgeous. The grounds aren't huge but are very well kept and serene. My friend recommended I check this spot out. I'm a fan of 50s/60s architecture so it was super cool to see this glass marvel. I love how the 360 glass walls and ceiling allow natural light to come thru while also allowing you to still feel nestled in the trees and one with nature. It's really a spiritually smart way to meditate while being protected by an enclosure. I'm truly amazed by the ingenuity and design. The bad: There was so gardening and construction going on that made it more noisy and less serene. The fountain was stagnant but I loved the cool and retro triangular shape. I am unsure if it's always stagnant or if there's usually water shooting out of the middle. The interesting: There are engraved stones on the ground for both those who passed away but also those who got married. read more

I have been wanting to visit this chapel for many years and finally today I got a chance to stop by while in Rancho Palos Verdes. I was in awe the whole time. How breathtaking is this place? It's truly stunning. I couldn't get myself to leave after walking around for a while. There was a baptism going on so I had to wait til it finished then I was able to walk into the little chapel and just sit there and pray. Pray for world peace, for health and prosperity. It has been really tough for a lot of people during the last three years. This is truly an amazing place to see while in Southern California. 1/24/22 (visit date) Took awhile before I decided to write my review of this spectacular place, I just couldn't find all the right words to compose to paint the perfect picture. It's truly stunning to say the least, as most would agree, there aren't any words to fully describe the feeling of being there--YOU HAVE to be there to experience it for yourself to fully appreciate its beauty & splendor. There's ample parking, no need for reservations unless it's for a special occasion like a wedding. It's nestled among verdant pine trees & other plants, flowers & succulents. It's winter time so the rose garden is trimmed down. Towards the rear of the actual chapel are the engraved paving stones that create a path around the garden. Hexagon shaped paving stones ($500) adorn the path & more of the brick shaped paving stones ($400) where patrons have their names or dates of significance inscribed. Couples married at the chapel may opt to have this set to commemorate their nuptials there. I learned from the website that for wedding ceremonies at Wayfarers Chapel, a reservation fee of $200 is required & for wedding contribution amounts between $3,400-4,900. These are among the incidentals but let us focus on the more pleasant features of this fabulous place. If you find yourself in need of some time for reflection, this place offers carefully manicured grounds & places to sit to just be. Towards the front of the chapel, there are stone benches to rest & contemplate as you look around. The benches face the vistas of the Pacific Ocean-overlooking the serene & glistening waters below. Every now & then you will hear the church/chapel bells ring their pleasant sound. It is wonderful that the drive up to the chapel in itself is very scenic on a winding road. It's a nice stop & spot to wash away the hustle & bustle of life even for just a few minutes. The chapel is one of a kind, I believe, as I've never seen anything like it in the city of Los Angeles. In Palos Verdes Peninsula, this is a beautiful place to spend a couple of hours. The views of the ocean are breathtaking. The architecture is intriguing, imposing, and peaceful to look at. The gardens are lovely. The smell of the ocean is in the air. I particularly enjoyed the memorial walk path. You do not need to be religious to enjoy coming to Wayfarers Chapel. Stopped by on the way back from Abalone Cove, lots of parking was available and it was thankfully easy to find! The chapel is absolutely gorgeous with the glass ceiling and redwoods surrounding it. It's definitely smaller than I thought, but it is very beautiful. Outside the chapel, there is a grass area with some benches and you can see the ocean. The altar is made of stone and in the steps, The Lord's Prayer is carved. The chapel is available to visit so long as there are no events/ceremonies occurring. There is a number to call on their website to ensure there are no events taking place on the day you are visiting. This chapel and grounds have been always beautiful. It overlooks the ocean for spectacular views all around. Inside , the chapel itself was designed by the son of the famous Frank Lloyd Wright, also named Lloyd Wright. Its design evokes the tree trunks of the pines that surround it. Along the walls within are plants meant to bring the outdoors indoors. The stone walls are heated to keep the space quite comfortable. The glass walls and ceiling allow natural ambient lighting. Permits required to photograph for public use but I think private events are allowed to photograph as long as permits obtained. Absolutely no drones allowed. Handicap access is not ideal but there are areas with ramps built however none going into the chapel itself (my mom is not completely unable to climb a few steps but it would be a challenge for some who is not able to walk at all). Plentiful parking. There is a rose garden that is probably beautiful but it was raining hard today and we weren't dressed for the weather. Welcomes all people who are seeking quiet and solitude. Theses spaces make you wonder quietly and think about peaceful things. Details on the altar steps : carved into them are some of the words of the prayer "Our Father", intentionally missing a few words, the brochure states the prayer is meant to be a "dialogue " so you provide some of the words. It relies on donations to maintain the building. On this rainy day, several places within were leaking water. That's very unfortunate but also not unexpected for a building out In The elements. We were here for a very short wedding ceremony , it will surely be memorable for whoever visits. read more

The chapel only allows for limited seating but there are plenty of space for parking and grassy area right outside the chapel. There is also a cute little garden behind the chapel as well. We had our wedding ceremony here and our experience was simply outstanding. Here are some of the reasons why: - The staff at Wayfarer's were all very helpful. This includes the office staff and the wedding directors we interacted with. They were also very caring, which meant a lot to us and our familial circumstances. Everyone at Wayfarer's was pleasant and professional, and we appreciate them greatly. - This includes Michael Waring, the chapel music director and musician, who was amazing. He took our requests for transposing a couple relatively unpopular songs and transposed them to piano beautifully. His music performances during our ceremony were excellent, and made everything that much more special. - Our minister, Rev. Mary Cartusciello, was also fantastic. She demonstrated great care, patience, and understanding. My wife and I are not religious, so we were somewhat worried about getting pressured to do things that don't represent our style of faith/belief. But Mary put a lot of thought and effort into developing a non-religious, humanist ceremony that suited us and our partnership beautifully. She obviously cares most about the love between couples manifesting into a wonderful commitment, as opposed to marrying folks under her particular faith, and we appreciate that a ton. - And that openness goes for our whole experience of being married at Wayfarer's. They seem to accept and respect all who come to their chapel, so long as you do the same for them. It's wonderful. - Finally, and most obviously, the chapel and the grounds are gorgeous. Absolutely stunning. Pictures don't do it justice. We are so glad we had our wedding ceremony here! I am so happy that I got to have my dream wedding at Wayfarers Chapel. The biggest blessing about having a COVID wedding is that the grounds are not open to the public due to the capacity restrictions. It was wonderful to not have to worry about having strangers in the background of our photos. If you want specific music like we did you can have it on your phone. We created a playlist with the songs we wanted and the music director had it cued up wonderfully. We had a 2pm ceremony on a Sunday and it was lovely! It has been a few weeks later and our guests are still talking to us about how amazing our wedding was. Thank you to Debra, our day of coordinator at the church, she was wonderful!! We also enjoyed our experience with our Reverend. The beauty of the church and the surrounding area will truly take your breath away. If you have the chance to get married here, don't hesitate. We initially booked a wedding for July 2020 but had to postpone to June 2021 due to the pandemic. The staffs at reservations office made the rescheduling easy and were always helpful when calling with questions. The coordinators were great. Reverend Dave was great and we enjoyed meeting him before the wedding day. The Chapel is so beautiful. The chapel had restrictions to only 36 guests, which was a bummer at first, but we were so lucky that California had fully reopened before our wedding date and restrictions were lifted. I've been here twice and both times there was always some wedding-related events going on, as it seems like a popular spot for events and photos. The whole place is actually not very big. It takes only 10 minutes for one to see everything about this chapel (the building itself, the store... etc.). But still worth a short trip for their beautiful design. A friend of mine told me that the reservation if always full that you got to wait for an year for an one hour wedding. I'm not sure if this is true - maybe just kidding - but I'm totally with that if I ever have a chance to hold a wedding here. One little reminder: the road to this place is quite rough. I got married at the magnificent Wayfarers Chapel on 10/22/21 at a 6pm sunset ceremony. Reverend Johnathan officiated our ceremony and customized it to our families faith traditions; he was wonderful. Our wedding coordinator Tracy was awesome! She organizes the ceremony and fine details to make sure the wedding goes off without a hitch, and it did! We had the sweetest intimate ceremony and were able to live stream it with our friends and family. They said it was very professional with multiple cameras getting different views. The music coordinator was great too, integrating our chosen songs into our ceremony. This chapel is more than beautiful views, it's beautiful memories. I had the best experience getting married here and can't wait to come back to reminisce in all the happy memories we created there. read more

Where do I even begin? We were truly blessed to have found the most breathtaking and majestic location for our intimate wedding. We got married at the Wayfarers Chapel last month and the whole experience was beyond perfect. It was magical! It was everything that we hoped for and more. My husband and I fell in love with the place when we first visited about a year ago. We both knew from the moment we set foot on the chapel grounds that we found our special place. The glass chapel was so beautiful!! We felt so in touch with God and nature as we sat on the pews and admired the stone altar, the sound of water flowing from the fountain, the blue skies, and the majestic trees. To top it off, there's the heart dropping view of the Pacific Ocean and the lovely garden as you walk around the natural sanctuary. It was so full of life and color! It was like a dream! We were so excited when we finally set our date and made our reservation! Our dream was slowly coming to fruition. Our wedding coordinator, Debrah was so sweet and accommodating. She made the whole process so smooth and easy from organizing our ceremony timeline to directing the wedding rehearsal. She's amazing and we love her. We are also grateful for our minister, Reverend Robert McCluskey for officiating our ceremony. During our conference with him, he made an effort to get to know us and prepared a solemn and spiritual ceremony that is personal and unique to us as a couple. I was on my way to see the Korean Bell of Friendship in San Pedro, CA, when my friend, Jennifer N. texted me and suggested that I visit Wayfarers Chapel. I had seen the sign for the chapel, and passed it, not knowing how special it was. I turned the car around, parked, and walked around in awe... I am so glad I saw and listened to Jennifer's text. She was right again! This place was fantastic!! The glass structure is man-made and it compliments the natural environment - the sky, the ocean, the land - it all comes together here in this place! The views, the architecture, the landscaping, the fountain, the sound of nature in the trees... it's awesome!! What really stuck me was a plaque that read, " Pause for a moment, wayfarer, on life's journey. Let these waters restore your soul and nourish your inner being." Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright's son, Lloyd Wright, Wayfarers Chapel is made mostly of glass to allow nature, namely pine trees, to add a natural presence to the sanctuary. A natural looking spring in the Chapel acts as a baptismal font while ferns grow inside the walls. The church sits on the cliffs looking out onto the Pacific with views of Santa Catalina Island. There's no admission cost, but it is good manners to at least donate something to help with the upkeep of this beautiful church. I would recommend at least 20 minutes here. read more

Now while there is a visitor center, this is indeed a working chapel and when not in use provides an outstanding area for meditation especially with the beautiful views of the blue sea complementing spectacularly the lovely grounds. Wayfarers Chapel is part of the Swedenborgian Church which as described on their website: "A forward-looking Christian denomination, the Swedenborgian Church was founded to help people be more open to the Lord's presence and leading, to facilitate the spiritual well-being of people, and to increase awareness of the new age in which we live. Since the beginning, The Swedenborgian Church has become a haven for seekers who share Swedenborg's quest for a religion that interconnects with all of life, and for a system that allows reasoned questioning of life's deepest religious issues. To this day, the Swedenborgian Church encourages inquiry, respect for differences, and acceptance of other traditions of life and religion." What struck me about their was on of their faith's basic tenets is "Truth is love in action. Actions performed out of love are genuine expressions in a physical form of what love means."
