Wayne is awesome. I came here after first stopping by Antich Automotive. The guys at Antich were busy, I understand that, but they were rude and would hardly speak to me. When I stopped in at Wayne's he was extremely busy too, but he was friendly and took the time to make sure I had all my questions answered. He even answered a couple of my calls after-hours when I came up with more questions. It was painfully obvious that I know very little about cars, but Wayne was very helpful and answered everything without any hint of condescension. Whereas most mechanics I've been to tend to say, "Well, that part does [insert unintelligible mechanic-language here]." Since I have no idea how much most parts tend to cost, I went to Google to compare his estimate with prices I could find. Turns out, he's actually quite reasonable! Another thumbs up for Wayne. I went back in a couple of days later to see how things were going on my vehicle. (There were multiple jobs ahead of mine, and due to safety concerns with the car, I just left it at Wayne's.) Wayne and I started talking, turns out he's a really cool, honest guy. There were several things I wanted to have done where he would say, "I could do that for you, but I don't really do a lot of that here. [Insert Name] down the street could do that for less and probably do a better job." What? I don't think I've ever heard a mechanic say that. Last I checked, most people would go ahead and do the requested task without saying "So-and-so down the street would do that for less." Fantastic service! read more

Wish I could give 0 stars. Got my car towed there last night. Warren showed up at my door step this morning to let me know he found my car dumped and stripped in Loleta! Wayne wouldn't pick up the phone so I went to see him. Asked how my car was, he said he got it running, but he looked pretty nervous. So I asked WHERE it was. He said it was in the lot! HE DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE IT WAS MISSING!! And how convenient that their cameras haven't been working. I trusted this mechanic with my car. My most valuable possession!! I'll never trust my car there. My car decided to throw up a check engine light while I was driving it from the Bay Area to Seattle. It was late in the day so all the shops were closed. I found a place to stay and looked for a shop in the morning. Everyone was busy but I was desperate to find out what was wrong so I could get home to my baby. I kept calling and Wayne's was able to fit me in. They actually sent me somewhere else so I could get on the road faster. My mom brought her car in because it was surging and it needed to be smogged. The guy took her car got it smogged said he fixed the surge and charged her almost $400 in "labor" the car now surges WORSE than it did before and the check engine light is back on. We were stranded in Eureka on Labor Day with a smoking car 8 hours from home in a bind and Wayne was a godsend. Our car was in the local Firestone shop where they told us it would take days to fix before even taking a look at it. We heard about Wayne through Joe Mellow (repair shop in Arcata-- also helpful!) and he welcomed us into his shop even though it was closed. I have a 21 year old son who is living up in the Eureka area. He's recently had problems with his car losing water. He took it to one shop up in the area and they wanted to charge him almost $1,000 dollars to replace the upper and lower radiator hoses on his car. These people were crooks in my opinion who were trying to take advantage of a young person who is just starting out in life on their own. Luckily he didn't have them do the work and he called me for advice. Since I don't live local I went and looked up Yelp reviews for mechanics in the area and that is when I found Wayne's Auto Repair. I called and had a nice likable guy answer the phone within a few rings. I told him what was going on and he said to have my son setup an appointment and he would look at his car and let us know what was wrong with it. Well when my son had his car looked at he found out that there was nothing wrong with the radiator hoses at all. Come to find out the radiator was leaking and would need to be replaced. My son had him replace the radiator and with parts and labor it was a little over half of the cost those other crooks were trying to charge to replace two radiator hoses that didn't need to be replaced in the first place along with mis-diagnosing what was really wrong with the car. All I can tell you is as a father who is trying to look out for his children I have found an honest mechanic in Wayne's Auto Repair. If you have a child who is out on their own (possibly attending college in the area) and you need an honest mechanic I would absolutely give these fine folks a call before all others. An honest mechanic is worth their weight in gold these days. Some people are out to make a killing and some are out to make an honest living and these fine folks have my trust going forward. The only mechanics I trust. All of my cars have gone to them. They helped me get my Subaru fixed up to sell over a period of time, prioritizing things to be fixed as well. After that car, I had Tacoma and the clutch went out on Broadway way at 5:45 pm. I called them and said to drop if off that night so so it could fixed ASAP. I'm not from here and my car was not drivable due to a drunk driver hitting my parked car. Wayne did a lot of running around to pick up key and get the vehicle so I could avoid a tow and a ticket. This review is a long time coming, but I've never forgotten how Wayne helped me when my Mazda MPV broke down in Eureka. I was helping my daughter move from Portland back to Utah, but we wanted to head down the California coast first and visit relatives near Monterey. The wheel bearings gave out.... we made it to Wayne's and he really took care of us. A more than fair price. I was so impressed. He even gave us a ride to our motel, recommended a great restaurant, and went above and beyond. I was expecting to be cheated because I'm was a woman from out of state who knows nothing about cars. I've been to Wayne's several times over the last 4 years. The largest project I had him do was to get more 1999 Eclipse running and in working condition to sell. The project took about 2 months, but Wayne did a great job! The thing to know about Wayne's is that they have the Eureka Post Office service account. Wayne isn't looking to for extra work, he has his hands full. As such, sometimes your vehicle can take a few hours or days longer than service at other places. The upside, Wayne is a straight shooter! He's your old school auto mechanic and family friend. He won't try to sell you unneeded repairs or belittle you for your lack on auto knowledge. I have been going here for 4 years, and I have since recommended Wayne's to a few friends with cars ranging from a Ford Truck, Jeep, Mitsu SUV, and my Tundra truck. They do great work, and are honest and fair.k. My friend's wife often feels that since she knows nothing about cars that mechanics try to take advantage of her - not here. What a terrible morning it was yesterday in Eureka. A Sunday... a 270 mile drive ahead of me to San Francisco... a party to go to in SF at 5PM... and my car wouldn't start. Jim of Pacific Towing came out, checked everything out, couldn't find the cause and proceeded to get on the phone & try to find a repair shop open on a Sunday. I was in Eureka on vacation and 300 miles from where I needed to be. My car began acting as if it were trying to become a blender; the dealership service department was closed for the weekend. I know you are thinking this sounds like a start to a bad joke or a horror movie, but it was not funny to me. I called Wayne and he told me upfront that he did not have the expertise or parts to work on Hybrid vehicles, but if I wanted he would put it on a scope for me and try to find out what the problem might be. I do not know everything that he did or found, but I do know that after about an hour a loose hose turned out to be the issue, it was buried behind so many plastic covers and thingamajigs that I could never have found it. After the repair the shop could have gauged an out of town person with no other options, but the price was so reasonable that I felt I had to give a review and it had to be a five star review. The mechanics were all busy but imminently polite. If you ever need a mechanic for a combustion engine vehicle in Eureka, I highly recommend Wayne's Auto. read more

Driving down the road when my fairly new alternator quit. Wayne's Auto Repair happened to be across the street from NAPA where I was trying to warranty out the part. Wayne is the man. He was originally recommended to me by one of my HSU professors, after I told her I was new to the area and looking for a reliable auto shop for my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer. I've gone to him a few times now, he's been very polite and friendly, and he always charges reasonably. In fact, there have been two separate instances now in which I needed a minor repair (headlight light bulb replacement, etc.) and wasn't charged a dime either time. These are the nicest guys in the world! My wife and I were on a road trip from Seattle to San Fransisco when our Mazda started acting up. It was the day before Christmas eve, and we thought no one would even be open, much less able to help us out, but we called Wayne and he said "Bring it on in!" Our family car died while I was driving it :/ needless to say we were in crisis mode. I called around to other shops, getting the standard run around. Outlook was looking pretty bleak. Honestly I am so grateful to this man. We are from WV and had traveled 4,000 miles before we got to Wayne. Our RV is a 1998 class C and we have used it a bit but this was by far the longest trip we'd had it on so far. Our RV started running really rough one afternoon while we were over at the beach. We got on Google and found Wayne's shop and drove straight there. We pulled onto his lot and went in and talked to him. He was honestly too busy to help us but we explained we were far from home and he agreed to repair the vehicle 48 hours later. He quoted us a much higher number initially than what he ended up charging us!!! We were so relieved and just grateful. He finished the repair in one day and we were able to get back on the road to head south toward Sacramento. We were amazed and could not believe how this man totally saved us from a really crappy situation!! By the way when we picked up the RV Wayne said he felt it was in good enough shape to get all the way back to West Virginia and sure enough we drove it back taking a very long route through Texas and Colorado! My car had been making squeaky whistling noises for the last few weeks & I didn't really know what to do about them. I asked some friends and co-workers & the unanimous opinion was to call Wayne's. I followed the advice and Wayne gave me a diagnostic rate quote that was much lower than the other company I had called, but because he has so many people that trust him, he's a busy guy and couldn't get me in until next week. I explained that I was concerned because I wanted to drive my car out of town this weekend and didn't want to break down, so he offered to drive around with me for a few blocks after work to see if it was something he felt was dangerous. I drove over to his shop after work, he jumped in without making me wait at all, and, of course, the car decided not to make the noises. :-\ (I felt terrible about wasting his time, but he was totally unruffled and said with a big smile, "Of course it stopped making the noise! I heal cars with my mind!) However, without even hearing the noise he peppered me with questions about what caused it, how long it lasted, etc. and was able to make a pretty strong deduction about the cause and whether it would leave me by the side of the road. He was also funny and friendly and very personable. He explained that his way of doing things in the mechanic business was to find the balance between fixing everything that could possibly go wrong on a car and keeping costs at an affordable level. I work at a heating and air conditioning company and that is exactly the balance we try for when working on our customers' equipment, so I was really pleased to hear him say that. I didn't have to have any repairs made at this point, but if and when my car does need repairs, Wayne will absolutely be getting my business. read more
