I was hopeful from the reviews but was shocked with how amazing the customer service was. Thomas, Ricky and Kevin all went above and beyond today taking care of my car and answering the 100 questions I tossed at them. Even after I paid and received my keys they took extra time to give me advice on maintenance and provided much needed education. This place caused my car severe damage. It's been 4 months since my FIRST visit at Leon's for an oil change. Took it in to my car mechanic today and they found that the oil was dirty and was in my coolant, transmission, and other random areas in my car. How does that happen? I was impressed with this business when I first arrived, they did well with the standard maintenance and they had good customer service. However, when I went in with something less common, they basically either could not do it or did not want to do it. I was smelling gas, and their response was "We could not find anything". I was impressed with how thorough Leon's was. I brought my 2019 Mustang Convertible in for a brake check, and they called me and explained exactly what was going on and where the problem was. Another shop I had taken my car to merely told me it was going to be a lot of money and I needed to have everything replaced--no explanation of what the problem was or why the replacements were needed whatsoever. Leon's did beautiful work for a fair price, and even gave me some advice on how to drive the car with the new brakes while they are breaking in. The brakes come with a warranty too! Best car repair experience I've ever had. Was in town for a mountain bike race and visiting my father, and the temp started going nuts on my Chevy Truck. Brought it in first thing Monday, told them I was from out of town, and they did all they could to get me on my way. I was on the road by noon with a new coolant recovery tank and a truck working as it should. Carrie at the counter and all the mechanics were SUPER professional, compentent, and nice. Compare their estimate against anyplace else's and it is clear that they have taken classes on how to maximize their profits with "creative" billing practices. From simple checkups to rebuilding an old Jeep motor, they do a great job at a reasonable price and make you feel good every time you stop in. Today I dropped off my car with no plan for how I'd get home. I expected hard upsell pressure from Leons (which I got) but I didn't expect to be blatently ripped off. I went in for an inspection. They said I had a coolant leak and suggested a hose and clamp be replaced followed by a pressure test. I agreed and paid over $500. About 700 easy miles later I get a warning light. Look outside and all my coolant is dumped on the street. Tried to pour more in and it goes straight through. After a very expensive tow mechanic says coolant hose just popped off. Mechanic has no idea why the hose fell off - it didn't look defective and said that should never happen if attached properly but he says BOTH HOSES AND CLAMP(S) WERE OLD - nothing had been replaced. Mechanic replaced both hoses, 3 bottles coolant, replaced thermostat as long has he was in there plus another inspection $700. All I can think is a Leon tech disconnected the hose to drain the coolant then reconnected it half-assed because it was going to be replaced and then they never did the work. read more

I had never been to Leon's. I needed a muffler ASAP and they got me in same-day. Carrie was great. David was great. They have coffee and home-baked cookies in the lobby. Jim, the gentleman who evaluated my truck, made two recommendations and welded in a new muffler in about 30 mins. Gotta give Leon's five stars -- they certainly earned it. We recently let our son borrow our Prius C, taking it from our home in San Diego up to Eureka. I've been reading all the stories about Priuses getting their catalytic converters ripped off, so I decided I needed to get a shield installed to protect the one in our Prius C. One problem: I'm in San Diego and the car is now in Eureka. So I got on Yelp and quickly figured out that Leon's is the top-rated car repair shop in the area. Plus they're AAA which scores extra points with me. I called Leon's to see if they could do the job. Long story short, yes they could, for a very reasonable price. (WAY less than paying for a new catalytic converter!) I paid for them to order the catalytic converter shield and had my son set up an appointment for installation. The appointment was yesterday and everything went great. Thanks to everyone at Leon's for helping us out! Right off the bat, I can tell you that one of the things I love about this place is that they have a shuttle service for pickup and drop-off if you live in Eureka! The Good: - The service is great! They kept me up to date with my car. Plus, I feel like they take the time to let you know what is or could be wrong with your car. - If you're a AAA member, let them know so you can get a discount. - They have cookies in the back and I believe they are homemade. - They were able to check my car like the next day. - I like that they do wear face masks during this COVID era. Could Be Better: - I had to get a new battery for my car and it cost me close to $350 (that's with the discount). That seems a little steep to me. Traveling through Ave of the Giants in an RV and the oil warning light came on. Called Ford, and they recommended Leon's. They were able to get us in the next day and got us back on the road with new oil and a full undercarriage inspection in less than an hour. Excellently run, family owned and operated, happy courteous mechanics, and the best homemade cookies while we waited the very short time for the service to be done. I had been taking my car to their service for a few years, with no problems, only good results. The other day, when I arrived at their front desk, the lady behind the counter, backed away from the counter by about 10 ft., obviously in rejection mode. It blew me away. I made an appt. for the next day. When I arrived- (a little late), I was met outside by Jim- (someone I had previously trusted). He told me I was not allowed to use their service anymore- (really). What a wonderful place to do business especially when you have a dire need for your vehicle to be repaired. I called them on Tuesday afternoon and made an appointment to have a diagnostic done on Thursday. I needed a tow truck to haul my car which had to be done Wednesday morning and by that afternoon LEON'S had already done a super complete diagnosis and had repaired my car and even changed the oil on Thursday morning so I was able to pick it up by Thursday at noon. We are traveling this summer. Our van developed exhaust problems in the redwoods. As soon as I knew what the problem was, we called Firestone. They recommended we call Leon's. Boy, are we glad they did. Leon's technician, Jim, took our van the very next morning, replaced the exhaust manifolds and catalytic converter in just a few hours. He showed us the exact problem, as well as another we'll keep our eye on, gave us an estimate as well as a list of problems that could occur during repair. Luckily none of those happened (as someone who works on his own cars, I knew what could happen). Their driver, James, took us to and from the local campground (where we will stay the night) and was extremely courteous, keeping up a great conversation the entire way. This year has been one of the most expensive years for car repairs for me. Until I took my vehicle to Leon's, things kept happening. My ongoing problems stopped occurring once Leon's was involved with my repairs. Here is what happened with the other repair shop. Originally I had a problem, took my car in and the repair lasted two weeks. Took it back and was told it was now something else. When I picked up my car, my air conditioning sounded funny so a new problem showed up. I asked and was told to make another appointment to diagnose and hundreds of dollars later, more work was done. Since it was time for an oil change, I took my vehicle to Leon's. They do all oil changes on all three vehicles. Immediately the technician noticed I had something else wrong. He said I had a leak in my radiator and stop leak was placed in my radiator. At Leon's people are taken to the vehicle and shown the problem. At the other repair facility you are not shown or even offered to see the problem. I saw the pink goo and the damage. The other facility had replaced my air conditioning compressor and may have damaged my radiator when installing it. Nothing was said to me. Stop leak was just installed and I was sent on my way. Now I needed a condenser and radiator. At the other facility, new things kept coming up immediately or within a week of the repair. Since Leon's has been involved, I have driven my vehicle over 5000 miles and no more problems. Do yourself a favor and take your car to Leon's first. They let you see what their technician saw. You will not be disappointed. 444-9636. 444-YODO. UPDATE 7 MONTHS LATER. Leon's installed a new factory radiator 5/31/19 because the original one with approximately 80000 miles failed. While doing an oil change on 1/3/20, they saw the new radiator was leaking. Since they have a service log, they knew when it was installed and said it had a year warranty. Leon's replaced it NO charge and said they would deal with the factory for the parts and labor. I paid nothing!!!!!! I offered to pay for their labor until they were reimbursed. They said the factory owes for everything and THEY would handle it. Many businesses may make you pay for the repair and tell you to file a claim for reimbursement. That happened to me 2 years ago at another facility. Not Leon's!!!!! Why would you take your vehicle anywhere else? Great honest service backed by Leon's followed up with a smile. read more

Do not trust these guys to honor their warranty and make sure to get a second opinion on their estimates! My truck developed a very noisy rattling sound in the steering column this summer and and I remembered that Leon's had just worked on that area the year prior. So I had them check it out as I was still under warranty. But when Mike looked at it he claimed everything was fine and the sound must be coming from under the dash somewhere. So I took my truck back home and drove it for another month during which time the noise was really starting to drive me crazy. I went through my old bills and discovered that it had been the steering column bearing that had caused a similar sound the year before so I went back to Mike and again he told me that everything is fine with the steering column and the bearing is nice and tight. He even went so far as to say that he'll replace it if I really wanted to but since it probably won't do anything I'll most likely end up paying for it. After another month of driving my noisy truck I finally went on YouTube and found a video that showed me how to check my steering column myself. It was really easy, I didn't have to take anything apart, just reach under there and see if the bearing makes a sound if I shake it. Sure enough everything was loose and made a loud rattling sound! I had to confront the shop foreman with this to finally have those guys honor their warranty and replace the bearing. If I hadn't looked it up myself I would probably still be driving around with a rattling truck. After they were done no one so much as said sorry to me or anything, however they did give me an estimate on what else they think needed to be done on my vehicle. Since I'm done trusting this place I went over to Les Schwab (not exactly a place that tries to give you the best deals) and had them look at what they thought needed to be fixed. I posted a picture of the two estimates it's really worth looking at. Not only is Leon's estimate FOUR TIMES higher, they are also trying to take a 50% markup on such things as the alignment etc. Also please note that this estimate was made during the same "thorough and professional" checkup that failed to find my rattle which took me 2 minutes on YouTube to diagnose. Yay! Leon's Car Care FTW! I just needed a light bulb switched out. This involves removing things under the car and I didn't want to do it myself. Called my usual place, the shop my dad owned until recently. I have the bulb, and was told labor would be around $72 and they could get me in next week. Called Leon's for an estimate, they asked me to bring it in at 3. I got there early. Adrian comes out n says it is done, mechanic with small hands reached in and replaced the bulb. So they didn't charge me! They did do a basic check and made recommendations which I will be following soon in their shop. They also replaced a different bulb that was out. $50 less than the other shop and Leon's has my future business! read more

We are long-term customers of Leon's, and yesterday's service confirmed that decision once again. We live two hours out. On a Monday morning, on our way into the coast, we called to see if by chance they might be able to fit us in for an oil change. Certainly, Carrie said, and set us up for 11:30. Sure enough, they fit us in. We hung out while Scott checked over our 2008 pickup. We had asked them to check the transmission fluid and change it if it looked bad. Now to most mechanics this is an open invitation to spend money and time--but not Leon's. They checked their records and found that they'd changed it for us a year ago, and after checking the fluid they told us that it was fine. No charge. Then the mechanic came in with a pitiful-looking cabin air filter. Looked as if we'd been living in smoke for months--so true! But did we think to ask them to check? Nope. But they did and quickly changed it out. This is the kind of really top-of-the-line service Leon's provides. They are the best! And funny and polite too, while they're at it. read more

First time here. I was just looking for an oil change and tire rotation. I thought about just a quickie oil change but they can be pricey and the employees are generally not mechanics. I looked through Yelp and Leon's had the most good reviews. I called and made an appointment. I showed up on time and signed in. Employees wearing masks, polite and professional. I made sure they had my phone and I went for a walk. They said it would be about an hour. That sounded reasonable since that is what my regular shop takes. At about 45 minutes I start walking back towards the shop. My phone rings and its Leon's mechanic. He offers to replace my cabin filter. Because I drive a lot on dirt roads I say yes. He says they will have to order it from Fortuna and it could take about a half hour. I said it would be fine. I was getting tired so after another couple of blocks I headed back to Leon's. I had just sat down when the mechanic was in front of me apologizing for the delay. I went for a drink of water and when I returned to my seat there was the mechanic again telling me my car was done. I went in to pay and when I came out the mechanic backed my car out of the bay and brought me the key. The bill was maybe a little on the high side but they also performed a multipoint status check including brakes. I have had a low tire pressure alarm for several years so the mechanic asked about it. He also informed me my tire pressure had been low but they filled them up. As I got in my car to leave I texted my wife to ask if she needed me to bring anything home. While I was waiting I saw the owner walking back to she shop bend over and pick litter out of the gutter. That little detail really impressed me. It impressed me because it said so much about how the business is run overall. Leon's shop is spotless and modern and so is the office. The mechanic was in clean overalls. The building is remarkably clean relative to the somewhat seedy neighborhood. What you see is what you get. I'm sure they are not perfect but I feel confident enough that I would recommend this shop to anyone. I rarely make recommendations but in this case its pretty obvious this is a quality shop. Leon's agreed to find and repair major oil leaks in my 1986 GMC small SUV 4X4 with a non original engine. They did an excellent job on the repairs which took a few days that I had agreed to, and they came out with a total cost which was under the original written estimate of repair costs. Their employee Bill would call me with updates, when they found additional issues in doing the needed oil leak repairs. Plus they gave a 10% off on labor costs with a "Military/ Veteran's Discount". That was the 2nd time Leon's Car Care had worked on my old back up vehicle that I have owned for about 20 years now. They will explain everything every step of the way no bs or sales pitch just straight talk. Lance also discovered one of my tired was worn and about to blow which i swapped with my spare when I got home and discovered how close it was to blowing though the damage was all on the inside side and I'd have never noticed it. I drive a delivery route every day and while my car is not pretty it is essential a blown tire would have not only been dangerous it would have cost me work and I cannot afford that. I like going to mechanics about as much as I like going to the dentist. But what I like and what I need to do is irrelevant. So when I needed to get the brakes replaced on my 17-year-old Toyota Tacoma, I called an old friend of mine and he recommended Leon's. When I checked Yelp for reviews, the first one I came across was from another acquaintance and it was 5 star. So I called Leon's and they said I could bring it in that afternoon, but since I live two hours away they set me up for the following day. The next day I showed up at the appointed time, they quickly did a thorough inspection and Scott the technician gave me an estimate. Some of the things they thought needed replacing--air filter, battery, two bulbs--I could do myself and they were fine with that. But they thought the fuel filter looked original and I couldn't argue with that, so I gave them the okay to take care of that as well as the brakes. In addition, they found one of my tires was beginning to separate. I knew I needed new ones, so I checked with a local dealer who had a set they would put on if I could get there around five. The brakes turned out to be a pretty easy for them to deal with. The fuel filter? Not so much. Apparently, unlike the old days when they were simple plastic deals in-line with the chassis and easy to get to and replace, this one was buried in the engine, mounted on a bracket. The technicians worked on that filter for three hours getting it out and putting in the new one. Every hour or so Scott came out and gave me an update and to thank me for my patience because he knew I an appointment to get the tires and needed to be out of there by five. Finally, just before closing, they finished up. Dale Warmuth, the owner, appeared, thanked me for my patience and apologized to me for taking so long. I was taken aback, and told him he had nothing to apologize for and I appreciated the technicians busting ass to get the job done. I got to the tire dealer and got my new tires to boot. Oh, and the bill at Leon's was less than I had anticipated and the service was way beyond what I expected. Would I recommend Leon's? Without hesitation. read more
