I adopted a sweet pit bull mix from here but the whole time i felt very judged and the staff was very rude and acted like because of my age i wasn't competent enough to take care of a dog, even thought my family has adopted/ fostered dogs my whole life. Every single person i interacted with during the adoption process was extremely judgmental and rude to my boyfriend & I. They RELUCTANTLY allowed us to complete the adoption process they watched us on the security cameras in the parking lot and when the puppy accidentally jumped out of my arms they came out to yell at us to not put the puppy on the ground even though it was clearly not intentional. I never write yelp reviews but this whole experience was honestly appalling, I will never come here again. P.S. My sweet kona is very happy in her new home and is very well loved & taken care of. contrary to the staffs preconceived notions;)

SHAMEFUL ORGANIZATION. Please return Jaxon to his Mom. ##justiceforjaxon #givehimback #wtf ##freejaxon

Courtney Baird has been heartsick since last December, when she learned her dog Jaxon had been stolen from her relatives' fenced-in backyard. They'd been watching him while Baird was in the hospital. Along with her grief is the outrage she feels toward the Kansas City animal shelter that refused to return Jaxon when she discovered he had ended up there and been sold to another family. "Wayside Waifs, in so many words, told her to get lost," said Alex Sprenger, the attorney who represents Baird in a lawsuit he recently filed on her behalf against that animal welfare organization in Jackson County. "They would not tell her anything about where her dog was, who had the dog, would not return the dog to her."

    We're so thankful.

We found the sweetest dog ever here. So thankful for all the time we have spent with him and thankful for Wayside waifs way of giving us this amazing puppy.

    Puppy happy at home

We had a wonderful experience adopting our newest little guy at Wayside! The staff was so eager to help us find a match, very knowledgeable in eat of the animals, and they took the time to go over the information they had on our pup and answer and of our questions! We only saw the adoption floor, but will definitely be back for training courses!

    My cat!

Nice people! Very informative and actually care about the pets. 10/10 would go again, and probably will to adopt another kitty?

Recently adopted our 3 month old baby Australian cattle dog and the process was definitely 5 stars worthy! The staff was so helpful and so nice and they take care of the animals there very well. What was like 0 stars worthy was the hand sanitizer at Violette's desk. It was like this aloe texture and it smelt and felt horrible. Like it wouldn't rub in at all and it was sticky after like 5 minutes of rubbing. She did make up for it though. She offered her Victoria's Secret hand sanitizer instead. She was sweet and we had a hay day talking about the hand sani issue. Staff: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Overall experience: 5/5 Hand sanitizer: 0/5

    Our baby boy, Henry!

Brought home kitty number 3. This was our second visit to this shelter. Our first time was a couple of years ago, when I accompanied my grams to adopt her two little black kittens. We were so impressed by the facility that it was a no brainer to return when we were ready for another feline. The shelter is pretty hidden, lots of acreage surrounding the place, which creates a peaceful and serene persona. A staff member greeted us at the front door when we arrived and other staff readily asked us if they could assist us. When we got to the kitty kennel section, there were even more staff to help us find a little boy in an all female kitty household. They were super attentive to our needs and knowledgeable on all of the newly arrived kittens. My partner picked out a little Siamese Tabby, and only 2 months old. A baby! For only $120, Henry came neutered, and up to date with his booster shots. We love him so much already...

Deciding to adopt = easy decision. Actually picking one, and only one to take home = a very tough decision!

The adoption process can be a little slow, but usually just because they tend to be pretty busy.
